Emergency Services Offered
Services we offer
PQT Construction offers the following services: decks, fences, additions, remodels, insurance repairs, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, all phases and aspects of plumbing, dump runs, paintings, trim work, windows, roof repairs, cabinets, doors, flooring, drywall, and much much more. At PQT Construction no job is too large or too small, we do it all.
PQT has handled multiple projects of mine since the early 2000's, including kitchen and bathrooms remodels, moving external walls, roof replacement, concrete laying, electrical upgrades, deck building, and others. They are not the cheapest contractors or the fastest, but they do good work. There are contractors you would hire to do a flip, and ones that you'd hire to work on your home - and PQT is the latter.

Work was done expertly. The team was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. They handled our drywall, deck, and demolition projects with skill. They identified a plumbing issue and then fixed it. Awesome! Prices were fair, no surprises. Based on their work, we will have them return for bathroom and floor work. I have no reservations about recommending them.

PQT Construction were on time, they were clean, they did what they said they were going to do, and they were great. They are actually going to remodel a bathroom in January. Their price is good. We would definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: We have used PQT Construction relocated the water shut off valve for the house.
What started out as a simple reporting of water in my unit became a nightmare of epic proportions for me and my pets that just doesn't want to end. On the evening of August 2nd 2012 I came home to find my kitchen under an inch or so of water. I called the emergency number I have and they called the emergency response company who has come out to take care of other emergencies in the past. The gentleman who arrived seemed experienced and took his time determining the most probable cause of the water in my kitchen. After shutting off my water, he told me he would come back the next day when it was not emergency OT rates to start to repair the problem. That made sense to me as I did not want to cause additional expense for the HOA. I have a lot of concern and passion, mostly negative, about what occurred with this company, but I want to stick to the specifics as I believe that much of this was due to lack of oversight in my area and not the overall company. The parent company is in Woodenville, and I live in South King County. I met with one of the supervisors and they appeared to be reasonable and considerate of quality. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about their initial representative and this, as well as common practice, led me to consider alternate bids for the reconstruction to be completed after the emergency services were handled. The workers who came did their job and did a fairly good job at it. The supervisor seemed more worried about getting out to his truck for one of his numerous smoke breaks. When I asked him about why he was keeping cabinets which had been sitting in "standing water" he told me that they would be putting them back in my kitchen with the remodel. When I told him that was unacceptable as the strength of the "pressboard-like" material, glue and thin sheet of white covering(which was peeling off) would never have the original strength, he told me basically "that's too bad" as the insurance company wouldn't approve replacement (which turned out to be completely inaccurate after speaking with our Management Company). Still, he took out the cabinetwork and wrapped it up in plastic for use in redoing my kitchen. The bathroom cabinetwork, made of the same materials, fell apart when it was attempted to be moved. When I asked about what appeared to be mold and whether I should be living there, he said it didn't seem bad but if I got sleepy or couldn't breathe, I should consider moving out. Pictures I took, as well as others confirmed mold, and I had to ask the company for those pictures so I could show the insurance company. Six days later, August 8th, when I showed the pictures to "My" insurance , they took one look at them and had me move myself and my pets into an extended stay to protect our safety. PQT placed plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling and put in dehumidifiers in the condo, while I was living there, and the temperature rose to just over one hundred degrees that first weekend. The first gentleman gave me a list of "chores" for me to do that weekend, in the 100 degree heat, and complete by Monday so they could continue work on the condo. This included moving all of my belongings out of the kitchen, bathroom, and hallway which I did with the assistance of my insurance agent, neighbor, and elderly father. After I moved out I came by as often as possible to check on the unit. At one point, they had moved the dehumidifiers outside the kitchen door into the garage and turned them up on high. They did not tell me this was going to occur so I had no warning to make things safe or move things of value. As a result of this the temperature in my garage rose to over 90 degrees. This was where my wine collection and my pantry were located. As a direct result of this maneuver, I lost 12 bottles of vintage port ranging in price from $45 to $200 (initial buying price, not current value) and a large amount of my canned goods lids went from concave to convex or started leaking, baking chocolate and other goods, melted, changed form, or otherwise were rendered inedible. Food in jars and some cans was "cooked" and cleaning products swelled up in their plastic bottles and overflowed their containers leading to erosion of paint and contamination of other items. When the initial work was done, I met with the company to discuss how things would be replaced. The two people who arrived were nice and professional. After speaking with them, I asked if someone would be coming by to remove the plastic sheeting now that the condo had dried sufficiently. They immediately contacted the same gentleman who initially came out and he arrived to remove the plastic. I was not there, but I have pictures of the aftermath of his "removal" of staples and plastic from the wall. I can only guess, but it appears that he stood in one place and ripped the plastic out of the walls. It took off the paint, part of the texturing, and left very visible gouges in my walls. When I asked about my bathtub (the water ran through the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom to the cabinetwork, but somehow missed the bathtub?) he told me the adjuster wouldn't authorize it. I had specifically asked him to let me know when the condo adjuster would be coming so I could be there, and he did not contact me at all. He went through the condo with the adjuster giving his opinion without my presence, and when I asked him about it he had not answers. He assumed that PQT would be doing the remodel at my condo and I let him know that there would be a bid process for the work which would go through the management company. I have an email in which this same gentleman spoke with the contracted workers for my insurance company and told them I was "shopping for a contractor" and that was why my work was delayed, and this led to my insurance company almost revoking my coverage for the extended stay. This appeared to be an act of potential malice for my honesty with him as I told him that the contract was not just awarded but would go through a bid process. As a result of all of these inconsistencies as well as blatant disregard for my home and belongings, when the time came to look at bids I let the HOA know that I did not consider this company appropriate for the further work in my unit. The initial emergency cost was approximately 7000-8000 dollars and the further remodel was going to be another 25,000 dollars or so. I did not want this man and by extension, company in my home again. This cost me thousands of dollars personally as well as a lack of concern for my pets and my health, and well being. It is too bad that one person can alter the impression of a company, but when that person supervised the crew, unfortunately it does. I would not recommend this company to anyone whose work is currently being done in the South end of King County.
Description of Work: Answered an emergency call after hours regarding a flooded kitchen for the home owner's association whick led to the substantial removal of drywall, plumbing work to stop the burst pipe in the wall, then demo and preparation for repairs to the condo.

Response from PQT Construction
From reading the Members' narrative and comparing it against PQT Construction’s actual time and billing records it is obvious to me there are at least two companies combined into Mr. Matthews’ one complaint. This makes it very difficult for me to respond in a productive manner. The following are a few examples of what I am talking about. The first example is Mr. Matthews’ statement that “PQT placed plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling and put in dehumidifiers in the condo.” The fact is we DID NOT perform this level of type of work. This type of work should be performed by companies specializing in water removal and structural drying of walls, ceilings, and floors. The installation of the sheeting and dehumidifiers is WAY BEYOND the scope of services PQT personnel performs. The scope of work PQT was hired to do by Mr. Matthews’ HOA, through its property management company, was limited to: 1) stopping the water leak; 2) fixing the leak; 3) and removing cabinets, appliances, flooring, sheet rock and other parts of the residence to promote its drying out and lessen the opportunity for mold growth. While I empathize and sympathize with Mr. Matthews’ loss of personal items it is not because of the work performed by PQT personnel. A second example of there being at least two companies is Mr. Matthews’ statement that ‘The initial emergency cost was approximately 7000-8000 dollars. . .” In looking at the single invoice for all of our services as described above it represents only 15 to 17% of the amounts Mr. Matthews’ states. Obviously, PQT did not perform all of the work Mr. Matthews describes. Lastly, another example is when reading Mr. Matthews’ narrative I am not able to match all the descriptions of who and when he spoke to someone or observed something versus what our documentation supports. For instance, towards the end of his narrative Mr. Matthews’ states “It is too bad that one person can alter the impression of a company, but when that person supervised the crew, unfortunately it does.” The simple fact is that on any given day PQT had a maximum of two people working on site and neither of them was a supervisor. Even if one were a supervisor that would mean the other person was the “crew” which does not make sense. We do a considerable amount of work for multiple HOA’s and it is often difficult for a resident to determine whom, what on-site company, and what insurance company is responsible for what. Our job is to perform the work as instructed by the HOA, its property management company, or its insurance company. I request Mr. Matthews contact me directly so we can go over his narrative to sort out want complaints go to what company. At that point in time I can better address his concerns about the work PQT actually performed and his interactions with its personnel. I can also then address the issues pertaining to PQT with its employees. Since October 2007, PQT Construction has been an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau and we carry an A+ rating. We have been in business over nine years and are licensed, bonded, and insured through the Department of Labor and Industries. We receive most of our work through referrals which you don’t get by ignoring the types of issues Mr. Matthews brings up. Richard Openshaw, CPA, J.D.
