we wanted to remodel the kitchen but had a very short time frame to make plans (needed to do some demolition before hardwood refinishing). I called Chris and he came out that evening to look at our kitchen and draw up a rough design. we liked him and his design so much that we decided to go with Keystone.
They started the kitchen two weeks later, the installer (Tom) was great to have around and became one of the family. He was very friendly and easygoing and very thorough and detail oriented at the same time.
We also went through Keystone to get the granite and I am glad we did. they get discounted rates at several granite yards and we got a slab that we love!
I would definitely use them again! they are very responsive, friendly, honest, and do high quality work. I couldn't as for better
Chris is supper nice and very responsive. Kendelle was in charge of the project. I was very happy working with him. He was trying to do the best. My kitchen turned out to be very nice. They have high quality cabinets and Chris is very picky about good quality of installation. The best is that their cabinets have life-time guarantee. I noticed couple tiny scratches after about a month , they quickly came out and replaced them. I was very impressed by their customer service. I have met several of people working with KeyStone and each one of them is very professional and very pleasant to work with.
I would definitely recommend KeyStone to anybody who need a new kitchen or bath. As a matter of fact I have referred them to a friend.
The President, Chris Wintebrin, is the most honorable businessman I have ever met, he is completely committed to making his clients happy and satisfied with their end product. The designer, Karen Kupferer, was both talented and cost conscious. Lastly, the carpenter/installer, Tom, was amazing. He was talented, hardworking and infinitely patient with my elderly cat, who wanted nothing more than to get in Tom's tool box.
I cannot recommend this company enough to you. They deserve every success they achieve. In a word, they are awesome.
The kitchen is complete and it is beautiful. We are so happy with the outcome. The cabinets are great quality.
The project was origianlly scheduled for 6-8 weeks and it actually completed in 10.5 weeks. However, we were kept in the loop about the delays and why they were happening. And the company made several accomodations to us in the end due to the delays which I thought was great business and showed character and integrity.
If you want honest work from good people, I encourage you to consider Keystone Kitchens.
We found that their pricing was competitive, and Keystone was able to work with us to deliver to our goals within budget.
We had Karen (who appears to be frequently mentioned in these reviews) as our designer. Overall, she delivered very solid designs and took the time to go with us to the stores to find the right material and work with us through detailed tweaks. She brings a lot of experience and options, as well as a strong style. She went "above and beyond" by checking in on the project during her off time or coming by to discuss tweaks to the design as we ran into complications. One complication that we ran into was how the the electrical outlets looked with some of the tile accents that we picked out. We were not happy with the outcome. However, Chris and Karen worked with us to find suitable alternatives and "made it right."
The other complication that we experienced was delivery time. The project ran a bit longer than we expected, but, Chris "made it right."
Keystone has a very strong set of craftsmen. To point a few out, I feel that we received great service from Mark (who did the tile work) and Sean (who seemed to be on site daily doing a wide variety of tasks.. he appears to be the "wrap up the details" guy). I don't know who (in their workshop) build our cabinets, but, they are very beautiful and all who enter our home make comments about how well the kitchen was done.
So, if you are looking for a kitchen remodeling, I believe that Keystone is a strong choice. Regardless of who you choose, the odds are that you'll run into some complications.
Fortunately, Keystone treats their customers well and, overall, we are very happy with our experience. I hope you find this review helpful.
We wanted to update our kitchen, however, we liked our kitchen layout and didn't want/need to change it. So we decided to pursue cabinet re-facing and we are so glad that we did! I used Angie's List to find Keystone Kitchens and that was the only call I made (so I can't compare pricing because I did not get another bid) because from the first interaction I was impressed with their responsiveness, professionalism and expertise. That first impression was accurate and held throughout the project.
The Keystone designer, Karen, was great because I needed a lot of help with cabinet color and style selection. She did exactly what I asked her to do - limit the choices for me, come up with an overall look and feel that would complement our home, and help me make the decisions. (I am not good at design stuff AT ALL). Karen is very good at kitchen design and she is fast. I had initial drawings and estimate within 12 hours of her visit. She answered all my questions and addressed my concerns quickly via phone or email. I wanted to visit their small showroom in Woodinville to look at cabinet styles and was welcomed anytime. I was also impressed that I was given a firm start date (about six weeks out) and that never changed.
Once we decided to move forward, the owner, Chris, came out to do technical measurements. He is very thorough and exacting which I appreciated. He has high standards for his employees and product and it shows in the final result. He responded to all my questions and requests promptly and professionally throughout the project.
The project did take somewhat longer than expected (5 weeks instead of 3 to 4) However, I was impressed that Chris was honest about the reason for the schedule slippage (his cabinet shop was swamped) and was sympathetic to my concerns. He arranged for tile work to be done on a weekend and provided additional employees to help Eliot finish the project as quickly as they could. The final inspection was done by Chris and it was VERY thorough. He identified several final items (punch list) and they were completely addressed by Eliot promptly. Chris then did ANOTHER final inspection (fixed a loose handle for me) - impressive.
Overall, I would highly recommend Keystone Kitchens. They are professional, do what they say they are going to do, billing is clear and straightforward, and their finished product is beautiful. They seem to strive to go above and beyond customer expectations, not just meet them.
"Hi, Thanks for your honest review. I do apologize for the delays we have recently experienced. We did experience a bit a of a rush and have adjusted the upcoming schedule to compensate. I hope that the extra week it is taking us to complete your project has not been too much of an inconvenience. Sincerely, Chris"
Karen - the sales and design consultant - was a firecracker! After listening to our needs and taking measurements at the initial consultation she did the unthinkable. Unlike other contractors and designers we met with previously, she actually sketched out ideas on paper, on the spot! She'd ask for feedback, erase, revise and talk us through her thoughts and considerations in real time. We were blown away. Everyone else we met with listened to our needs and shuffled off to their offices to mockup various designs, presenting them at follow up meetings weeks later. That was ok, but Karen's approach was interactive, real time, and helpful for us to understand her thought process. She was endearing, considerate of our needs, and generated creative approaches to solving for our limited space which we hadn't heard from other designers. We knew right away we were interested in learning more.
Karen came back a few days later with a more refined design, a project proposal, and pricing. A key differentiator Keystone presented was their pricing model. Other design/build firms provided fixed quote bids that included allotments for various materials including fixtures, tile, cabinets, flooring, counter tops, etc. Their bids included allotments for the lowest priced options. Although their estimates were nearly double that of Keystone, it became obvious we'd have to constantly negotiate change orders to get the quality we were after and the ultimate price would be much higher than their initial quote. Not so with Keystone. With the exception of the custom cabinets they were creating for us and the granite counter tops, Karen's bid didn't include any allotments for materials. Instead we were free to choose our own with as much as a little of her help as we'd like. This suited us perfectly given our previous remodeling experience and desire to be heavily involved in the process. In some cases Karen even extended Keystone's contractor discount to us to purchase fixtures, tile, and other items at a discount. So while others were marking up these items as part of their bids, Keystone extended their wholesale discount to us and helped us choose and purchase materials from contractor-only wholesale shops. This let us purchase the highest quality materials at lower prices. About 2/3rds of our budget went to Keystone for the cabinets and labor while the remaining 1/3 went to appliances, fixtures, tiles and other materials. Of that 1/3 they didn't charge us a reseller's uplift so we saved even more. Ultimately, Keystone gave us incredible value for the price, especially when we compare it to other vendor's approaches.
Once the project started, Karen was a wonderfully patient and a tireless guide. She took us shopping for the various materials and components for our remodel, coming over on weekends and nights when necessary. So not only was her design imaginative, functional, and in tune with the period of our home, she helped us pick amazing materials including quarter-sawn oak cabinets, high quality stainless steel appliances, and beautiful tiles for our back splash. She also had wonderful suggestions for design, appliance, and material choices that others we talked to didn't come up with. Things like special granite recommendations, a built-in wine rack, and a pantry in her design make our space both functional and unique. Keystone even went to extra lengths to have a custom stain created for our custom cabinets. When the samples came back lighter than we wanted, they didn't hesitate to re-run the custom match process multiple times to come up with a version that matched our original Stickley furniture. The custom cabinets are high quality and the wood working is marvelous.
Mike, the engineer on our project, did a masterful job translating Karen's design into detailed mechanical drawings that reflected her original intent. He truly worked hard to synthesize the richness of the design with the limitations of our space and functionality of the overall layout, translating them into working plans that didn't require any revision throughout the construction process.
The demolition and construction was quick, clean and efficient. My wife has dust allergies and special attention was given to keeping the workspace clean. She never reported any irritation from the demolition even though they had to remove all the lathe and plaster of the original walls - a supremely dirty and dusty undertaking.
Dean was our lead builder and we can't say enough good things about him. He was efficient, conscientious, and accommodating. I obsessively worked to remodel my home for five years prior to Keystone doing the kitchen and was nervous someone else couldn't live up to my expectations. Dean's work proved all these concerns to be misplaced. He takes pride in his work and it shows. He consistently went the extra mile to build things well. Case in point, the flooring was initially put in place by a subcontractor employed by Keystone to help them in a pinch. This subcontractor did a less than optimal job. When Dean showed up in the afternoon to assess the progress he immediately called Chris, the owner, and explained that the job didn't match their expectations - the edges of some tiles were raised and some lines weren't consistent. Without question or hassle, they decided they needed to pull and re-lay every tile - even though the owner hadn't seen it. Dean proceeded to pull up every single tile, number them on the back so he could replace them efficiently, scrape up the mortar, vacuum, and re-level the underlayment. He came back the next day and laid the tiles himself at no additional charge. Heck, he even came over on a weekend day out of his own volition to continue working, explaining he had some time to spare. Unbelievable. Needless to say, Dean's work exceeded our expectations and he worked hard to keep the project on schedule. We came to think of him as part of our own family by the time the project was complete and even our dogs loved having him around.
The project ended up being a few days late but given that the tile had to be re-laid and that we requested a few minor modifications along the way, Keystone's project estimates were very accurate and we were pleased with the project timing.
Keystone transformed our kitchen into a beautiful and functional space that we truly love. It's been about six months and we still can't believe how nice it is. Their quality work, value pricing, and commitment to customer service helped us realize a vision I don't think we could have fully imagined or achieved on our own or with another firm. It's clear to us that Chris and co. are doing something great at Keystone Kitchens. My wife and I recommend them without reservation and would gladly do business with them again in the future.
"Hi Member, Thanks for posting your feedback here on Angieslist. We are disappointed not to receive all A's on our report card. We will investigate and, if necessary, try to address any deficiencies we uncover. Our management and staff is dedicated first and foremost to customer satisfaction. We do have an answer as to why the caulking needed to be redone: The crown molding is flexed slightly to fit tight to an uneven ceiling and the micro nails used to mount the crown were not surdy enough to hold the molding without sufficient glue. The recaulking/ regluing should now be adequate to hold the crown in place. Micro-nails are great because they leave a very small nail hole in the finished materials and after final filling, they are imperceptable. When used in conjuction with proper glueing, they provide the best finished appearance you can achieve when installing prefinished cabinets and molding."
