When I originally called them, I asked if I would be able to split up the payments into three payments and they told me there was no way to do that and were a little snarky. I wanted to use them since they were recommended by a friend. I called them back about a year later after I saved up some money and then they said that it would be no problem to split it up into two payments. I’m not sure what was so different about two payments vs. three payments. Once I had them come out and do the work they were very speedy and everything went well as far as I can tell.

What a horrible experience. I had a small 1 car garage that needed insulating. Their guys came out and did the work but messed up the ceiling. Insulation wasn't cut to size and was falling down. I didn't realize this until after they left because they took off without saying anything. I called them up and they said they would come back after the next job to fix the problem. They never showed. I called their supervisor at the end of the day and he said they would come out first thing the next morning to fix it. The next morning passed and they never showed. Very, very disappointed with the shoddy work and lack of professionalism.

After a couple of communication issues due to inside staff being on vacation, we were quoted an excellent price and the workers completed the project ahead of schedule. They were in and out in a day and our house has never been so toasty. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I used Burnham Insulation & Shelving to replace all of the insulation in our crawl space, re-insulate some of the pipes under the house and fill in the gaps between the ductwork and the subfloor.

It snowed the night before they arrived, so I wasn't sure if they would show or not. Turned out they had arrived an hour early, parked at the bottom of our hill (because their truck wouldn't make it up in the snow), walked up and scouted things out, then walked back to grab their ladders and tools, arriving ready to go at our house at 8am. They talked me through what they were doing to make sure we were on the same page, then one guy started working in the attic while another added additional venting from the outside. The initial work took a couple hours, by which enough snow had melted they could bring the truck up and start spraying insulation. They completed the job by 11:30am. The added insulation has made a huge difference in the number of times the furnace has to turn on, and I was very satisfied with the service. The only downside is that their scheduler did not let me know that payment was COD, or what the final payment would be with tax included, so I had to have him call the office for a final number and write a check on the spot, which I was not expecting. The cost was right in line with the quote they had provided. I would definitely use Burnham again, and was really impressed with the detail of their quote, their professionalism on the job, and that they trudged up my hill in the snow to arrive on time rather than reschedule.
Description of Work: Flipped over all existing insulation in the attic (it had been installed upside down by a previous owner), added additional attic venting, and sprayed additional insulation to bring up to R-49, as well as adding some insulation in stairwell.

Contacted Chuck Heltsley on 4-8-13 to arrange for an estimate to add additional layer of insulation to our 42 year aold split level home. Chuck came out the next day and gave me a price and explained the process step by step. Within a few days he e-mailed me a contract. Total price including a bath vent came to $978.93. The install was scheduled the following week at 12:00 noon on a Thursday. The installers arrived at 12:00 noon sharp. Kevin O'Connor, the lead installer explained what they were going to do and proceeded to complete the job. They layed plastic down over the carpet on all of the walk areas. Protected all of the furniture in the work area. Once they were done Kevin vacumned all the areas they had covered and when they left you would not know they had been there. Chuck, Kevin, his helper and the office staff were outstanding, and professional people to work with. I could not have been more pleased with the entire experence.

We needed to have more insulation to our attic. We got in touch with Puget Sound Energy and they referred us to two contractors. Kevin from Burnham Insulation came out to do an inspection. He was promp and very helpful. Within 24 hours he had e-mailed an estimate to us. The estimate seemed reasonable considering the PSE was giving us a $400.00 rebate, We had a difficult time setting up an appointment with the second company and their estimate was quite a bit more than Burnham had given us. We set up an appointment to have the work done, but there was a mix-up at their office on the date. Somehow the secretary had scheduled us for Nov. 2013 instead of this year. They apologized for their error and rescheduled the work for the earliest date that was convenient for us. The contractor and his helper arrived on Time on the appointed day and went right to work. The two workers were very knowledgeable, courteous, competent and efficient. The work was completed in two hours and the work area was left very clean. They did exactly what was stated in the contract and we are very pleased at the results. Burnham Insulation also took care of the paperwork to get our rebate from PSE.
Description of Work: Burnham Insulation added blown-in Fiberglass insulation in the attic to an R-38. They put up baffles at the attic air intake vents and wrapped the fan ducts with R-11 fiberglass batts.

An appointment was easily arranged for an estimate at a time I could be at home a couple of days after I called, and Chuck came out and measured and estimated and a few days later sent us a quote for the job. My husband has used this company before in his professional work as a site supervisor in construction, so we went with them without getting other quotes. As a result, we don't know for sure how this price would compare to other companies, but it seemed about right to us so we went with it. Scheduling was easily arranged to be at a time convenient for us. The crew of two who showed up were friendly, professional, arrived on time, and did a good job at the work and at cleaning up afterwards. Things are warmer and we're happy.

Had three bids, two similar priced and one double. Burnham was one of the lower two and had much better availability. Arrived morning of the job an hour early, which seemed inconvenient at first (wife and toddler still getting ready to leave the house), but this ended up being an easier situation. Attic was prepped for blow-in, so there was not much for them to do but start blowing. The workers were friendly and efficient, finishing up in probably about 30 minutes. They left before the family headed off to work, making it easy to lock up and leave.

Called to get an estimate, the person on the phone was nice and the sales person came on time and performed a thorough examination of the attic and the house. I received the bid by e-mail a couple of days later with a contact that I was expected to sign. The contract is really written for a contractor hiring Burnham has a sub-contractor, rather than a home owner. It includes terms and requirements that are not suitable for a home owner. In particular, the contract states this: "7.4 The Contractor hereby assumes entire responsibility and liability for any and all damage and injury of any kind or nature whatsoever to all persons, whether employees of Contractor or otherwise, and to all property, growing out of, or resulting from the performance or nonperformance of this contract or Contractor's contracts with the Owner and/or other Subcontractors on the project which the work is part of, occurring in connection therewith, and agrees to indemnify and save harmless Subcontractor and/or its agents, servants and employees from and against all loss, expense, including legal fees and disbursements, damage or injury growing out of, or resulting there from, or occurring in connection therewith, with the exception of damage or injury to the sole negligence of Subcontractor or its agents, servants and employees. " The contractor in this contract is me, the home owner, and the sub-contractor is Burnham. From my perspective, I'm hiring them to do a job, and I expect them to be fully responsible for any damage or injury caused in the process, and to have proper insurance to cover such liability. The contract states exactly the opposite - I'm responsible for everything that they do. There are other terms in the contract regarding changes and additional work that the sub-contractor (Burnham) can decide to do and that I'm committing to paying for. I have some experience with contractors and lawsuits, and I would not sign such a contract or advise anyone else to sign it. I tried contacting the sales person from Burnham but he did not get back to me - I finally called his cell phone and he said there is nothing he can do about it - it's "a standard contract". I decided to take my business elsewhere, although Burnham has good reviews from others and although they offer a 10% coupon for members.
Description of Work: Only got an estimate, decided not to go with them because of the terms of their contract.

Both the estimator and the work crew arrived exactly on time. Jason, the estimator, was courteous and informative. Scheduling the work at our convenience was easy. The crew wrapped 3 skylight shafts with fibergalss batts, connected 2 ventilators with proper ducts and insulated them, and blew in cellulose to bring the whole attic up to R-38. Their cleanup left a little cellulose on the deck, but was otherwise good. The whole job took 3 hours. The price I paid reflects the discount to Angie's List members and the Puget Sound Energy rebate, which is paid directly to the contractor.

Burnham was the 3rd insulation bid I got. They were the most informative and a little better in cost. However, they were the only company to tell me about and obtain the rebate information from Puget Sound Energy. That was significant since the rebate covered 50% of amount shown above. They also submitted all paperwork to PSE. Both phone contact, sales person and installers were punctual, helpful, and professional. The work was done very well and they cleaned up afterwards. I would not hesitate to recommend Burnham Insulation.

Kathy Abrams came out, was late, seemed stressed, and ran her appointment into the next bidder which was very akward for me. As with all contractors that come to my house I offer to assist as needed or step away if they need their space. I was in my office when I heard a very loud noise: she'd had some difficulty coming out of the attic. She had stepped onto some flimsy storage shelves in our garage and had broken them and caused many things to fall to the ground. there were dammages. she told me she'd be in touch about estimates for the damage. To make the story short, she never followed up, I had to keep contacting her, she told me her boss 'Debbie' would be in touch - never was - and when it came time to revise an estimate including duct insulation a couple months later a) she never remembered me, and b) the estimate did not reflect any compensation for damages. She apologized profusely and offered to help clean up, but my boyfriend had come home and we said "NO"...thank you. When the bid came in it was 1500.00 more than the next cheapest and the company was firm on that. I had to ask them a couple of times about any Angie's discount.

The guys that did the job were great. They were exceptionally nice to each other. They kept everything clean during the job which I found quite impressive. The office and staff and sales people weren't the easiest people to communicate with. The bid price was $600 and then the afternoon after they asked me for another $200. I didn't like how they did that. I thought the original price was good. They did more work then what was originally bided on. I called them to let them know that more work was going to be required, but they didn't try to call or get a hold of me until after the job was done. While they did the job, they ended up knocking out the function of some of my lights. They came out to fix it but they couldn't figure it out and told her they couldn't fix it. They went back and told the office staff that they couldn't figure it out. The office staff never called us back to figure out what they could do to fix the problem. The workers did a great job and tried to fix the lights. The workers were very professional but the office staff were not.

Overall it went well, their bid was lower. Jason was helpful. Estimated cost: 1436.00
Description of Work: We had Jason come out and give bid on insulating our upstairs. We also had another insulation company come out for the same purpose and ultimately decided not to insulate at this time. Both companies explained that insulating would not help much in our problem because the space is a converted attic and would be best done with a roof replacement.

Felt bid was extremely high. We had used his services for blowing in insulation into a smaller sized attic and it was under $1,000 5 years ago. This house has an 1800 ft2 foot print. He determined by poking a hanger through the interior outlets that there was no insulation in any of the exterior walls. Is this the best method? House only has 8 foot ceilings.) Apparently this company had been bought out a larger contracting outfit which perhaps explains the price?!
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for blowing in insulation in exterior walls, laying some insulation batting underneath house crawlspace and about 100 ft2 in attic. Footprint of house is 1800 ft. with 8 foot ceilings. Insulation was to only go into 2nd story exterior walls. Basement is insulated. Crawl space underneath would also be insulated with bats.
