We decided not to go with the a/c instal and just have them tune up the furnace and cap of the vent. This was in Early August 2015. They said we'd be on the list for September furnace tune-ups. Contacted them 3rd week of September, they said "yes, you're on the list for our calls in your neighborhood soon" - then get a call on October 6th at about 11am asking if they can come out that afternoon. I said yes, but reminded them of the duct cap-off as well as furnace tune. Turns out they can't do that as they "didn't have the right tools/materials not he truck". They promised to be out to us by "end of this week or early next week". Well, it's now the end of the next week and no response at all. They are polite, pleasant folks who just don't seem to able to deliver on their promises. Seems like they have taken on too much work.....shame.
Description of Work: Came out and gave me a bid for a furnace tune up, capping off a duct we no longer needed, and installing an ac system.

[member name removed], Sorry for the confusion. We had just hired a service technician and at the time he was riding with a subcontractor for training. The subcontractor didn't carry ductwork on his truck. We did however come back and cap off your duct. We now have a fully stocked service truck. Please call if we can be of further assistance. Our previous gas furnace was only 14 years old (it was a replacement itself, but a generic "contractor's model," not a common name brand and probably inefficient). The gas controller died, which would have cost $700 to replace -- and we'd still have an old, inefficient furnace. At best, the old 100,000 BTU furnace might have been 80% efficient, and probably worse. I called around and got a quote for a replacement from a large heating company in Woodinville, and a different brand -- but they insisted that we'd have to install a vehicle post for protection of the heater in the garage, in order to pass an inspection. They also did not explain how they would install the PVC exhaust pipe in our garage. The 95% efficient furnaces require a PVC exhaust pipe, which cannot attach to the existing metal exhaust that goes through the roof and that also handles exhaust from the water heater. Another large company in Bellevue wanted to do a 3-hour test of our entire house, to first determine what size heater to get. With that, and other reviews on Angie's List, I figured they would be more expensive, so I passed on that. After a quick look at our existing system, the other heating companies I talked with said that the same BTU output of a new efficient heater, combined with a variable or two-speed fan, would be the right size. So I called Bassett Home Heating. John, the owner, came out the next day (a Friday) and offered two recommendations -- one for an 80% furnace (which could attach to our existing metal exhaust pipe), and one for a 95%. He explained how the PVC pipe could be routed along the top of the garage, and said nothing about having to install a vehicle post. I also liked the idea of a small family-run company, where you know who you will be dealing with. The only potential downside was a scheduling delay, since we had no working heater. Because we have a wood stove that we have previously relied on for heat during storm outages, I decided to go with Bassett -- and am very glad I did. They are normally scheduled two or three weeks ahead at this time of year, but were able to rearrange their schedule and come out for the installation the following Thursday. We got the 95% efficient furnace. The PVC exhaust pipe looks and works fine, and they also installed a small pump and outlet tubing for the moisture that the furnace creates. They called a couple of days ahead, and showed up right at 7:30 a.m. on the agreed day. John, his son, and another helper all worked on the installation, and did a great job. Complete installation took them less than 2-½ hours, and they showed how the new thermostat works -- it's easier than the old one, even though there are more features. I am extremely pleased with our new heating system; it heats the house much more evenly than the old system, and we aren't losing 15% or more of the fuel as waste.
Description of Work: Replaced our old, dead furnace with a new American Standard 95% efficient furnace, and replaced the old thermostat with a new programmable touch-screen thermostat.

Everything went very smoothly, except waiting for the PSE inspector to view the install and turn on the gas. But that couldn't be helped by John. With an extra visit by John the next day and the help of my neighbor...........the GAS was turned on! I love it.
Description of Work: John Bassett has a family owned home heating service. He and his two sons did a gas conversion for me, including putting in all duct work in the crawl space and attic, installing a furnace and hot water heater (including moving the tank to my garage). They were very efficient, polite, clean, prompt and professional. John answered all my questions and phone calls before and after. He made some suggestions for efficiency (two thermostats, one upstairs and one downstairs for better heat and cost control ). All three were easy to communicate with. His wife , Debbie, manages the office and was also great at answering questions and handling the finances. Thank you all!

I made an appointment over a week ago for them to come here on Monday to service my AC. I even took a day off from work. When they didn't show up by the promise time I called back and there was no one at the office. When they return my phone call they said they don't even do AC work and that no one at the office would even take a work order for that. Even though the website said that they do and they even had a coupon for AC service online to download. Don't even bother calling them about their AC service even though their website says that they do , they don't.

we did not talk to this person, nor did we schedule a a/c tune up. We have not had a service tech for a while now. He said a woman scheduled the appointment. I'm the only woman here, I answer the phone, my husband does all his own scheduling. We have our appointment book for the day in question, we do not have him on our schedule for that day or any day for that matter. Can you make this "F" rating disapear? We called him back that same day and mentioned that he had the wrong company, told him the same info listed above. He said to late I already gave you a bad rating on Angies List. We take pride in our ranking with you as well as all "A" s on the BBB for many years. Call me if you have any questions thanks. Debbie Bassett (Owner) 425-398-1666

John, the owner of the company, came out to my house in Mountlake Terrace from his office in Woodinville to provide me with a bid for a new furnace. He was actually the third of four companies to come out and bid my job. When I started this whole process I didn’t have any experience with furnaces so I had to be walked through the whole process of what to look for. In hind sight I now know that John was the only person to explain everything that I would need to look for when buying a new furnace. He took a look at my old furnace and how it was installed. We then went into the house to discuss my options. He explained in detail the differences and benefits of each of the furnaces that he had to offer. One thing that I really liked about his approach was that he never asked me how much money I wanted to spend. Instead, he just walked me through his options and asked me which furnace(s) I thought I might be interested in. He took down my information and left me with a brochure to look through also letting me know that if I had any other questions I could call or email. He would get back to me with an emailed bid the very next day. A day later I received the bid and looked it over. Once I received bids from all of the other companies I decided to move forward with Bassett. The bid was explained well, the product was name brand and the price was right on (not to mention great ratings on Angies list). On the day of the replacement John showed up with his two sons (both work for his company) right on time and got to work immediately. The whole installation process only took about 2.5 hours. John and one son worked on the furnace installation while the other son installed the new thermostat. Once the thermostat was installed he headed out to help with the furnace installation. After they were finished installing all the new goodies John brought me out to the garage and showed me the work they had done. He explained the routing of the new gas plumbing and showed me where the condensate was routed to the outside of the house. The furnace also had a condensate pump and fan that he explained how to operate. He showed me where the filter was and told me to change it out 3 times a year which he had also written in sharpie on the filter cover so that we would remember. Once we finished up inside we headed into the house to get a run down on the new thermostat. He knew all the ins and outs of programming the thermostat and taught me how to set everything up in just a few minutes. The whole time they were installing I was working at my computer in the living room and was never disturbed with noises or interruptions which I really appreciated. The old furnace was only running at about 45% efficiency so you can imagine how costly it was to heat the house. As a result we were forced to keep the thermostat at 62 degrees. Burr! The heat is on now and the house is finally warm! Thank you Bassett Home Heating!!

They came out, and within 10 minutes had fixed the leak, by tightening the joint that was never fully tightened 20 years ago when the house was built. Only cost $120, and was fixed right away. I will be calling them again for regular service on my furnace/heat pump and air conditioning.
Description of Work: We had discovered a leak in our gas line. After calling several large companies and finding they wanted to charge a $99 diagnostic fee, I called Basset. I didn't need it diagnosed since Puget Sound Energy had already come out and confirmed where the leak was located. I didn't want to pay $99 extra when I already knew where the leak was.

One quick story, on Christmas Eve a few years back, our furnance quit working (ending up be a faulty ignitor which needed to be replaced). As it was around 9 PM, I called John's business number expecting to leave a message asking that he contact me the day after Christmas to check about repairs. Well, Debbie answered the phone, I apologized for interupting their Christmas Eve and asked to leave a message. John called me back about 10 minutes later and walked me through a few steps to get the furnance working again. Needless to say, it made our Christmas a much more pleasant experience (and warmer). This is just one example of Bassett's great customer service.
Description of Work: We have used Bassett Home Heating for all of our HVAC needs for a number of years. John installed a furnace, electric air cleaner and programmable thermostat in 2003 and a A/C unit in 2010. Annually he performance maintenance on all the units. John is very trustworthy, listens to your need and concerns and his services are priced fairly. I recommend Bassett to all of my friends and neighbors (he has installed at least 3 or 4 new furnances on our street) and would highly recommend that you contact him if you need any HVAC services.

John, Debbie and their sons David and Travis have been terrific. I called for a quote on a new high efficiency gas furnace on the Friday of a long weekend and John came out the next morning to size up the job. Debbie emailed a quote that afternoon, and over the course of the next few weeks, John and Debbie fielded what must have seemed like an unending barrage of questions in a friendly, timely and professional manner. John even came to visit a second time to address additional concerns I had. They also offered a very reasonable price. On the day of the installation, John and his two sons, David and Travis turned up on time and removed our old furnace, installed our new one and cleaned up within half a day. We would definitely hire them again and have no hesitation in recommending them.
Description of Work: John and his sons installed a new high efficiency gas furnace, a coil box for a future air conditioner and a filter box. They hauled away our old furnace and he also arranged to have the ducts cleaned.

I e-mailed the company on the holiday weekend requesting an estimate. Received a phone call on Tuesday (the first business day) and was able to schedule an appointment for that afternoon. A few hours later I received a detailed estimate by email. The estimate was less than half the over-the-phone estimate of $1500 I received from another company. I scheduled the work for Monday the 12th, The plumber and his assistant arrived on time. They were courteous and very professional. Rather than tapping into the existing gas line that runs to the furnace, they ran a new continuous line from the gas meter. They had to remove and re-install the existing slide-in electric range. The work was completed in less time than I expected. and the charge was exactly as estimated.
Description of Work: Natural gas plumbing was installed for a gas kitchen range, fireplace, and outdoor barbecue.

Since we weren't a member of Angies List at the time, we checked the BBB website and found they were a BBB accredited business with an excellent track record (0 complaints in last 36 months), were family-owned and operated (owner and his son performed our installation), had been in business a long time (28 years), and agree to use special BBB arbitration procedures, if neccessary. We had solicited quotes from other companies (some provided lower quotes), but decided to use this company based on their previous track record, great, customer-oriented phone- and face-to-face interactions, and our desire to support family-owned and operated companies whenever possible. Initially we were looking for a single-stage, high-efficiency replacement gas furnace, for simplicity. However, they took the time to explain the advantages of the great additional features found when upgrading to a two-stage furnace with only a $110 price increase, and we decided to go that way. On installation day, they were on-time, efficient and did a great job cleaning up the jobsite and hauling away our old furnace. They also accommodated some minor installation changes requests made prior to starting work, without additional expense. They also took the extra time to mostly fill-out a special $250 rebate request form for the local gas company, and provide the proper paperwork (Manufacturer's Tax Credit Certificate) to help us claim tax credit for this installation on our 2010 tax return! They are a wonderful company to work with and we highly recommend them!

John and his son came in with the most reasonable bid to pipe gas to my house and install a gas fireplace insert. They always start early and work quickly. They were always on time and answered questions. After the fireplace was installed and we started using it, the paint on the front plate started bubbling off. I called John and instead of making me call the manufacture (it was under warranty) he came and got it, brought it to his supplier, got a new one and came and replaced it. I since have used John for gas furnace servicing.

Bassett was wonderful. They were the best of several bids. Before we hired them, they endured and graciously answered several questions. They even helped us with information to help us in the natural gas conversion while we we were still in the bidding stage.
