The job started Feb 9th and has gone on until now. He promised me it would take about 3 weeks. Most of the work they have performed has consisted of them correcting mistake after mistake. His workers have performed shotty work and they have not been respectful of my home. He kept making excuses for why work was not performed and has not been a man of his word. He used materials that were not even appropriate for the job hired and he came numerous times ill prepaired. At one point I had to provide him with a rolling pin for them to do their job.
Description of Work: I had water damage in my home. He was to put in linoleum flooring and to replace carpet. He asked for the money for materials and 25% of the the labor money up front.

Doug attempted to remodel our basement, which included a bathroom and moving a laundry room. The job went from 3 weeks to 3 months and still wasn't done to even minimum quality standards. Once job was close to being completed we used the new shower and it didn't even drain. Doug and his team was very unresponsive to calls and getting quality issues resolved. They attempted to fix the problem finally and it didn't work. They came back and wanted us to pay to fix it. After we said no and that it was their responsibility they finally came out and took up shower pan and some tiles. The shower tiles look like a 5 year old completing a tiling project and the shower pan is still not correct. At this point we had to ask him to come over and figure out a path forward. We agreed to meet on a Monday am and he nor his business partner ever showed and will not return any calls. There are so many problems with this remodel that I can't even begin to go into full description but here is a summary. 1. Shower pan not installed correctly 2. Shower tiles not laid correctly 3. Tiles on floor coming up after at least a dozen attempts at laying floor tiles. We are still having some pop up. 4. Double sink vanity ruined during installation and continuing construction phase 5. Drywall on ceiling moves when pushed, so not attached correctly 6. Pony wall separating vanity and toilet was not installed correctly and vanity was ruined even more Overall, crew was extremely unprofessional and did not show any respect for the fact we lived in the house during the remodel. Our house has been covered in construction dust for almost 4 months. This led to our son having asthma flair ups and we had to spend significant money on carpet cleaning. Construction crew used our tools and our kitchen sink to clean up and left significant messes everyday when they actually showed up. Some days the crew would show up and at other times we wouldn't see or hear from them for a week. They would come and work for a couple hours, usually just creating a greater mess and accomplishing very little. So unfortunately we are now left without a functioning bathroom and are in the process of getting quotes from another contractor. The contractor that came in this week said that he would have to gut it completely. This has been a complete nightmare and would not even recommend this contractor to my worst enemy. It has not only been a huge financial impact to our family but an emotional toll. Doug Shima sold himself as a reputable contractor as this couldn't be farther from the truth based on our experience. I sincerely hope this review will help others from making the same mistake we made. His license # is DOUGSR*912PN.
