I would not recommend this company. I realize our job was a small job in the scope of landscaping work but at the same time all jobs small or large should be given the same attention to detail.
Description of Work: We hired Cachys Landscaping to build a gravel garden path in our yard. After waiting two weeks for the work to be done they completed the path without asking us what type of gravel to use. The path was constructed with no weed barrier. At the time of construction we asked about the lack of weed barrier and the owner of Cachys Landscaping told us that was how they were built and it would not be an issue. Since then we have spent the entire summer pulling weeds from our gravel path.

Based on Angie's List reviews, I called for an estimate. Gentleman I spoke with said he would call me back and set up a time to look at the job. Never heard from the company again.

It went great. They showed up on time and did a great job. They finished in under two weeks. They came everyday and when they left for the day they made sure they cleaned up as much as they could.
Description of Work: Cachy did my entire back yard landscaping in 2008 from Irrigation, sod, curbing, Plants, rocks and also did some work on my front lawn by adding two tree's curbing, plants and rocks and drip line throughout as well.

On day 1, the Catchys crew used heavy equipment to remove all of the existing plants and 6" of soil. They also dug down 18" along the neighbor's mow strip in preparation for the barrier installation. Before the crew left, they cleaned up the work site, swept up all the dirt in the street and along the gutter and hosed everything down. Very neat and tidy!? On day 2, the crew returned to install the barrier along the mow strip and again left the work site clean. On day 3, the crew didn't show and I waited until 10 a.m. to call Juan. He apologized and said the boulders set aside for the project were not suitable and they were waiting for replacements. This was the only snag in the project. I felt that Juan should have contacted me to tell me there would be a delay. On day 4, the crew arrived with the fresh soil and the boulders. In concert with my instructions, the crew placed the soil and boulders. Juan also arrived to apologize for the delay in obtaining the boulders. The street and gutter along the work site were swept and hosed down and left in a clean condition.? Everyone on the crew was friendly, polite, hard-working, and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. UPDATE After the work was completed, I gave the firm a glowing report on Angie's List. However, when I began to put plants in the newly landscaped area I discovered the soil provided consisted of heavy clay. I was expecting soil that was described in the Terms and Conditions of Proposal (TCP) as: "All plant material installed will be back filled with a native soil/compost mixture, water polymer, and fertilizer." When I re-read the TCP I realized that the soil described was only provided when Cachys Landscaping did the planting. That told me that Cachys knew the type of soil that assures optimum growth for plants.Next I reviewed the actual proposal for my property. It called for "New Topsoil." A definition of top soil is the "fertile, upper layer of soil".The clay I received could in no way be described as "fertile". The irony of the whole situation was I had actually paid money for soil I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!I contacted Cachys to voice my displeasure about the soil provided. I was hoping to have the clay removed and new top soil brought in. That didn't happen, but Cachys did agree to provide two yards of compost and have it integrated into the clay. Not an ideal solution, but better than nothing.New customers should have a clear understanding of the type of soil that will be provided for their landscaping project.
Description of Work: I have a large island mound between my property and the neighbor's lawn. Unfortunately, the neighbors lawn is Bermuda Grass which grows by underground runners. In spite of eradication efforts, the unsightly grass was making inroads into my mound. My goal was to get rid of the grass and take measures to keep it out.? I asked for an estimate to remove all existing plants from the mound along with about 6" of soil. Next, I wanted the contractor to dig down approximately 18" all along the neighbor's concrete mow strip and install a barrier the Bermuda Grass couldn't grow through. I wanted new soil and several (appx 12) large boulders brought in. I wanted the boulders?situated (according to my plan) by the contractor. No irrigation or planting was involved. I contacted five landscape companies -- two didn't respond to my phone call and one was booked two months out. I received two bids. Juan Garcia of Catchys?Landscaping viewed the work site and provided me with a detailed estimate of the labor and materials required. I accepted his estimate. Work commenced approximately one week later.?

Cachy's (Juan) came over to quote a job for me, two retaining walls, move soul to create an access to my backyard and some cleanup landscaping. Juan was very courteous, but took almost 10 days to come over to assess the job. Once he came over and looked over the job, he said he would e- mail a quote. He said it would take 6 days to get the quote back to me. In the meantime, I got a second opinion quote on the spot. When I got Cachy's quote back (after prompting him for a quicker response), Cachy's quote was literally 3 times as much as the competitor for the same job. $21,000 for Cachy's and $7,000 for the competitor. I obviously did not go with Cachy's and can't comment on the quality of their work but I am very happy with the competitors work for 1/3 the price.

It was almost too good to be true to receive such professional service. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I did know what areas I wanted improved. I was provided with a detailed estimate of price and how long the project would take. Any changes in the estimate were gladly accommodated including suggestions for meeting our budget. They also reassured completion in time for an outdoor wedding. I was impressed with lead worker who is an expert. (He also did the landscaping around Lourdes hospital.) Definitely an artist. There were usually 4 guys who were never idle, and it took about 5-7 days for the entire job. The site was spotless at the end of each workday. The owner stayed in contact and quickly responded to phone calls when necessary. When they finished the retaining wall, they spread the remaining gravel in the driveway, which needed it. Another extra from this hard-working crew: While curbing the front area, a sewer pipe in the garden area ended up on the outside of the curb about 6 inches into the driveway. This pipe stuck up about 3 inches or so. My husband groaned even though it wasn't a serious issue since we rarely use that area. I didn't think it was their responsibility to replace the pipe, but they dug it up and made it flush with the level of the driveway. Another note, the soil here is part clay with large rocks. Where the little tractor didn't fit, the crew dug it up by hand. Any leftover bricks were neatly stacked for us. The only break they took was lunch. I highly recommend Caches for your landscaping job.
Description of Work: Retaining wall along a long driveway and small hill area. Curbed driveway bordering lawn and border around front yard. Also installed beautiful stone entryway. This project also included removing overgrown shrubs, old bark, and lots of prep work. Also included 25 plants with drip irrigation and fresh bark.

They were very responsive to our call and came out within a week. Rafael stayed to get his crew going then left them to do their work. Very professional, courteous, hardworking young men. We have very rocky soil so they had their work cut out for them digging a trench for the new line; which they had to tie into 3 existing sprinkler heads. They got the job done in approx. 4 hours in the sweltering heat.
Description of Work: We had a sprinkler head capped some years ago when we put in a concrete patio; the capped sprinkler began leaking so Caches came out and re-routed the line.

We are very pleased with the job Cachy's did. The job did take longer than anticipated, but the presence of large tree roots did complicate the process a bit. The patio had to be built up more than expected to cover the roots so the trees wouldn't be damaged. There was also a delay due to some pavers and the firepit having to be delivered from Oregon because the local company was out of stock of those items. The quality of workmanship was excellent in every way. Rafael is truly an artist when it comes to landscape design. We had envisioned straight walkways but Rafael told us they would look better if curved a bit and he was so right! This is so much more beautiful than I ever envisioned it would be. They were very willing to make changes and offer ideas when needed and are a pleasure to work with. We like them so much that they are coming back to do more work for us very soon. I would highly recommend Cachy's to anyone considering any landscape project.
Description of Work: We had the landscaping redone around three sides of our house. The old landscaping of railroad ties and walls was removed and replaced with landscape blocks. We also had a paver walkway installed from the front of the house to the new patio on one side of the house and extending around the back. A fire pit was added as well as a new drip system for the plants that will be added this spring. New landscape fabric was laid down and covered in rock. Electrical conduit was laid for a later addition of lighting.

When I first called Juan for a quote, he set an appointment for the next Thursday at 10AM and this was nice after some contractors that call/text when in the area which can be hit and miss. Juan showed up promptly as scheduled, took measurements and a list of my requests and promised to get me a quote in the next day- which he did. The amount, almost 12k, was more than I wanted to spend, but I knew it was a lot of work and I wanted it done right (not like the landscaper that did the front half of our yard for the builder). I accepted the bid over the weekend and Juan's crew showed up on the following Monday to start work. Overall, it took two weeks for the work to be finished by the time we waited for the concrete curbing guy to do his part and then for the curbing to dry/cure and waiting on sod deliveries. Juan's crew were always very polite and conscientious of their impact, never leaving a mess or getting in our way. I have had work done before by other contractors and it was not out of the ordinary to come home to a total mess- this never happened with Cachys. Most of the job I spec'd out, but when it came to the shrubs at the front of the house and some other key areas, I told Juan what I wanted and he picked out what was used. I am very happy with the plants he chose and how they were placed. Overall, I would highly recommend Juan and his crew and fully intend to use them again for future projects.
Description of Work: We had a backyard that needed 13,600 sq ft of sod (roughly a quarter acre) and the ground needed to be lightly graded (it was graded a year ago when we moved in, but the sand has drifted a bit) and some sprinklers needed to be set up or adjusted. Additionally, we wanted about 300' of curbing around our house and shop with weed barrier, decorative basalt rock and some shrubs in key places and then gravel laid over an area that was about 1000'.

They did a great job. Juan was very good about listening to what I wanted done. I wanted only a few choices, and he was very good about providing just a couple choices, not hundreds. His crew was on-time and cleaned up when they left each day. They did a very professional job on the patio and it adds a lot to the front on the house. We added some extra work and it wasn't a problem. They removed weeds, trees, shrubs, rock. Installed pavers, weed barrier, and basalt rock.

They used a crew of three or four with an on-site supervisor at all times. They worked hard every time they were here for most of a month long process. They also coordinated with a concrete contractor so the lawn re-leveling was coordinated with the slope of my new driveway. They tested the irrigation installation ultimately installing an unplanned drain pipe near the street to evacuate pooled water at a low spot in the lawn where the grass meets the concrete mowing edging. Every aspect of the design and installation is of the highest quality, is thorough and the work was meticulously executed. As examples, the decorative landscaping block used to border the raised flower beds is perfectly level and blends in beautifully with the natural slope of my lawn. The shrubs, flowers, trees and grasses installed are varied in size but coordinated so as to provide multiple colors, textures and heights. Finally, the landscaping block, coarse and finer aggregate rock used are color coordinated to blend seamlessly with one another adding a completeness and reflecting a thoughtful and thorough design process. I could not be more pleased with the end results of the entire project! I highly recommend CACHYS LANDSCAPING and would hire them again.
Description of Work: Redesign entire front lawn. Included lawn leveling, installing new irrigation and three decorative raised flower beds and revised landscaping around utility area. Included all new sod and concrete mowing edging. The landscaping also included removing four shrubs entirely replacing three, relocating two lilacs and installing decorative rock areas between street, driveway and front lawn. They installed new perennials, small trees, shrubs and grasses in the flower beds and utility area. They also assembled a 10' x 12' steel utility shed behind my garage.

Juan came out promptly and was able to quickly diagnose the problem with the crumbling patio wall. He also showed us other areas where the same problems were occurring. He recommended replacing the rotting railroad ties with concrete retaining blocks and provided us with an estimate. We also asked for some additional work on the sprinkler lines in our backyard and this was also included. The crew did an excellent job and all issues that came up during the project (broken sprinkler line, patio stairs) were quickly resolved to our complete satisfaction. The crew did a reasonably good job of cleaning up each night during the demolition phase and did a great job of cleaning up after the project was complete. The job was done correctly, the ground was all leveled out and compacted before the blocks were set and the blocks themselves are back-filled with gravel. The final wall was completed and finished off very nicely. We would definitely have them do work for us again.

Description of Work: Juan came out and discussed ideas for pavers in my back yard. He stated he would get back with me for an estimate within a week. I waited 3 weeks and called him back. He never returned my call. I feel this was very inconsiderate. If he wasn't interest in doing the job in the beginning he should of just stated that and at the very least when I call the second time he could of returned my call. Very unprofessional.

This is where it went south. The worker came over to aerate my yard. He left inch long dirt pellets all over my sidewalk. I got home just as he finished and he was sitting in his truck. I got my broom and swept the dirt pellets off the sidewalk so it wouldn't get tracked inside, and he sat there and watched me. Several times I contacted Juan about a broken sprinkler in the flower bed, each time I was promised it would be fixed, but it never was until I did it myself. Then in the fall as Halloween approached, they had never come to blow out my sprinklers, so I contacted Juan again. In addition they had not removed the leafs from the back yard. So the worker came over, said he had blown out the sprinklers and used a leaf blower to blow all my leafs into a huge pile in the corner of my yard and he left them there. That weekend the wind blew them back all over the yard. I had to request a couple more times for the yard service that I was paying for to be performed, not acceptable. Then in early March I got an email saying they were referring me and several other clients to a different lawn service, although our contract was still in play and I had been paying through the winter when no work is being done. Now here is the worst part. This spring I turned on the water to my sprinkler system and my entire back flow prevention valve assembly had frozen over the winter because it had standing water in it. So either the worker lied about blowing it out or he did not do it correctly. Now I am paying to have it repaired which will cost between $300 to $400. The back flow prevention valve is an $80 valve by itself. It was only 3 years old. I'm not sure why their quality of work has declined, but I would not hire them again and I would never recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: I originally hired them to redo the landscaping in my front yard. I was pleased with the hard scraping, however they did not plant the plants that we had discussed. I assumed that was due to plant availability at that time of year. Then Juan approached me about lawn service. He had a contact that was very comprehensive and professional. So I signed up in April 2013.
