Description of Work: Attention to Detail my eye. HA! Even the sign on their truck was crooked. I was in the process of buying the house and the owners agreed to fix the rotten wall and sill plate in the garage up to code, repair the outside stairs and bring to code, install the missing kitchen stove vent thru the roof and cover the exposed fireplace pipe on the outside of the house. They had to redo the garage 3 times. Had to have a meeting between the owners, both realtors, the contractor and helpers, the house inspector and myself to get any satisfaction. A few unkind words were used, contractor and helpers stated there was no way to put a barrier between the cement wall alongside the garage so it would not get damaged.I said you have to tear down the wall to replace the sill plate and at that time coat the cement wall and put a plastic barrier between the garage wall and the cement wall to keep moisture. The owners realtor got quite upset about how much more this was to cost and said they did not have to sell me the house. I said ok. She then asked the inspecter if the wall would be noted in the inspection and he said he was aware of it so it would have to be fixed properly. I never did see the contractor except at the original meeting and later when there was a problem. Evertime I went to look there were two young adults doing the work. As the garage wall was being repaired I noticed that they had put calking to cover up the rotten wood and painted it. I called my realtor and she got it reapired correctly. I volunteered to fix the outside stairs for $300 as I figured that would be the cost of materials. They said no they would have the contractor do it. About a week later they called and asked if I was stil willing to do the stairs and I said no. I later found out the contractor charged $1200. They had to call the inspector to get the particulars on the width between the rails as well as the required height for the handrail. The work was roughly done and stairs painted. Four years later I had to replace almost all the steps, take off the rails and sand and repaint all of the stairs. They did a good job of covering the exposed stove pipe but did not leave a way to clean out the pipe. Had to make a removable opening into the bottom and to get to the clean out cover. As for the vent for the kitchen stove they never did fix it. I felt sorry for the owners as I'm sure no one thought this was going to cost as much as it did or have as many problems but this was going to be my house and I wanted it done right.
