My company, Appraisals by Rule, is a woman-owned personal property appraisal firm in Southwest Washington State. I operate a client-centered generalist practice specializing in the appraisal of art, antiques, vintage items, collectibles, and general home contents. I have over 20 years experience in arts management and have received comprehensive training in personal property appraisal through the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). Why would you need an appraiser? Perhaps you need to know the tax-deductible value of a donation, or you need to insure the things you own. Perhaps you're dealing with a taxable estate, dividing property during a divorce or separation, or going through a bankruptcy. Maybe you'd like to use an object as collateral for a loan. In these cases, you will most likely need a professional appraisal in order to comply with IRS and other legal or procedural rules and regulations. Are you an executor? Maybe you need a little help with all that stuff you're responsible for. Maybe you are downsizing, and cannot handle the task of sorting through everything and deciding what to keep, sell, or donate.
