Overall I considered the conversation to be a bit unprofessional. It took awhile to establish I had the right person on the phone and all his answers to my questions were just blunt one word answers with lots of uhhhs. In the end he wasn't interested and had no recommendation. It's possible he is a very good tile man. I just don't think he is good on the phone. Certainly wasn't helpful. We only talked but the Angies system required I put a job location anyway. Okay.
Description of Work: I only called him to inquire about replacing approximately 8 tiles on an existing bath counter top. The job would have involved pulling the undesirable tiles and replacing with new. His language skills were slow with lots of stumbling and negativity. His concern was the difficulty to find matching tile of same color, size and thickness. I offered to get the materials myself. Seven minutes into the conversation he said he wasn't interested. Sadly its not easy finding a tile person to just do repair/replacement of a few existing.

Response from Timberland Tile
Hi [Member name removed], Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry that I couldn't have been of more assistance to you. I will try to do better in the future to alleviate this problem. Unfortunately I'm often the bearer of bad news for repairs of existing installations. I hope that you were able to find replacement tile for your countertop. --Sterling

Sterling truly is an artist at what he does. He put down a gorgeous new tile floor that takes an old, too small bathroom and opens in up into a place I love to go every morning. The bathroom is transformed, and opened up. Do listen to Sterling about what kind of tile would be best for your job. Do assume that you know a lot about what you want but, assume that Sterling will guide you how to get what you want. Our job went off without a hitch because Sterling is a good planner. He even helped us to pick out a tile that would be around for awhile. We have another room we are going to do with the same tile. When it goes on sale, he calls us and gives us the pricing to see if we're in the position to do the job.
Description of Work: We were very lucky in that we went from carpet to tile. Sterling tore out our existing carpet, sink, cupboard and toilet. Then the Sterling *Magic began. Sterling laid the tile down without a problem. It took roughly 3 days. No problems to be had.

We had noticed that a few of the tiles on the countertop surrounding the sink had started to come loose. The grout in between the tiles had chipped out over the past few years, we also had a few cracked kitchen tiles from fallen pans, plates, bowls and such. The house is over 100 years old so the floor sags a bit. Sterling was able to remove the old tiles and match some new ones. The new tiles blend with the old ones and the floor looks as it did when it was remodeled years ago. Sterling explained in detail everything he was doing, especially in regards to some of preventive maintenance he did so it wouldn't crack again. The tile still looks fine and hasn't cracked, no one notices it's been replaced or worked on.
Description of Work: Remove and replace countertop tile, grout tile. Replace broken tile on kitchen floor. Touch up 3 tiles on the kitchen floor.

Wow! Our expectations were high but the outcome far exceeded those expectations! We had a beautiful new kitchen floor within two weeks of our first consultation with Sterling. To be sure, luck played a part in the timing since not only were we able to be flexible in the project start date, but ,incredibly, the ordered materials arrived on time and as promised, and, best of all, Sterling had an unplanned window of time available and was able to fit us into his schedule. The actual on-site work was completed in less than FOUR DAYS. Sterling spent the first day tearing up the wood floor (nasty glued-down parquet) and most of another day prepping the sub-floor. Laying the tile -- even with the intricate pattern -- and applying the grout took less than two days. Sterling is the consummate professional. He clearly explained to us the full scope of our project including all of the costs for labor and materials, the timing and sequence of the individual steps, the impact those steps would have on us and our use of the space and what we could expect from him. He arrived each day on time, as promised, and worked steadily through the day (so glad he is a non-smoker!). He was pleasant, courteous and easy to talk with. Our project came in ON BUDGET, ON TIME, and AS PROMISED... And it looks stunning!! Thank you Sterling and TIMBERLAND TILE! I would hire him again and would highly recommend his work to others!
Description of Work: We wanted to replace our glued wood parquet kitchen flooring but were not sure whether to use tile or slate. Sterling, the owner of Timberland Tile, helped us choose a gorgeous, easy-care ceramic tile that closely resembles slate but will require less upkeep. Our home's open floor plan makes it especially challenging to determine where to stop-start flooring materials and colors. Sterling suggested that we extend the flooring beyond the breakfast bar to maximize use of that feature and further define -- and visually enlarge -- the kitchen. To showcase the beauty of the tile, Sterling recommended we lay it in a visually-complex pattern called "Capella" which uses tiles of varying sizes but requires meticulous measuring and planning to make the best use of the tiles and keep costs down. In addition, based on his extensive experience in commercial settings, Sterling recommended we use a product not often seen in residential settings -- a metal trim (Schluter brand) -- to protect the tile edges from chipping and provide a crisp line between the new flooring and the family room carpet. The additional expense was nominal (less than $100) but resulted in a very "clean" line.
