We got 4 bids for window coverings. We chose Dale The Blind Guy after careful consideration, for several reasons – in no particular order, they are:One reason we went with Dale is the fact that Angie’s list did have a lot of positive reviews. We figure Angie's list reviews are “mostly trustworthy because even though I suppose people could set up memberships with fake profiles and post fake positive reviews, we figured the reviews on AL are trustworthy for the most part.Another reason is price: Dale was competitive to the other bids; frankly, we didn’t even haggle over price, we just asked for him to give us his best / lowest possible price and it was reasonable and competitive.Another big reason we chose Dale is the fact that he came out and did the install himself. He said he’d install he wasn’t kidding; no assistant, just him. When he installed he clearly knew what he was doing. I’m no expert on window covering install, but he clearly was not learning on our dime, he installed without any problems and confidently.Another reason is that he said he can personally come back and make adjustments if necessary and if something needs repair he can save us time by getting the parts and making the repair instead of us having to ship the product back to the manufacturer. We just got install yesterday so we haven’t had to utilize this but I’m confident Dale will honor his word, he seems like a stand-up guy.So in summary I’d say it’s good customer service and a good price that made us decide to choose to go with Dale. I suppose if I bought all the materials myself and installed I maybe could have saved some money, but really, considering I’m not a fix-it kind of guy, have no experience, would have to measure correctly, all the time I’d have to take trying to figure out how to install, problem solve my mistakes… I’d much rather hire out and I’m glad we did. Besides which, and this is just me speaking here, I think it’s cool that an expert gives us exactly what we need in a timely manner for a fair price; we all have to make a living and I feel good paying Dale to expertly do what would have been a huge time-intensive pain in the butt for me to do.We had our whole house done, and we chose mostly slatted blinds but with a couple of windows having Silhouettes and a few with Honeycomb style and we really love how much nicer our house is, the ability to control light and privacy and the elegance of it all – the products seem like good quality too. I can definitely recommend Dale, he was helpful from the very beginning with trying to figure out what we should do where, right through install. If I had to find some “criticism” I can make, is that that once or twice we felt like contact could have been returned a little quicker, but maybe that’s just me as I’m a stickler that way. That's pretty minor, really, and I think if you chose Dale you’d be happy too.

See above since the site does not allow cut and paste - I am not going to write over from scratch : )
Description of Work: Just finishing a custom built home; the fifth I have owned in Atlanta, Twin Cities, Boise, and Camas (so I have had different types of homes and window treatments). I first called Dale about a problem with the blind cord at the house I was renting while building. He was helpful and responsive so when it came time to get ideas and a quote, I called him. He was punctual, professional, pleasant and took the time to figure out the best install for unique windows and views. I liked that he was not married to Hunter Douglas since I have had mixed results with their products in the past (though their customer services is excellant after regarding replacement parts, etc.). The shutters installed today in several rooms are a composite that comes out much better in terms of consistancy and looks as opposed to the painted wood I had several years ago and I am pleased with the verticals in the great room and kitchen area. I have a cat who terrorizes honeycomb shades so wanted other options this time around; she can easily navigate the verticals without damaging and cannot get through the shutters period. Based on my past experience, I knew the price was very fair if the installation was good and product high quality. Both were - when I moved here in 2006 I had A1 Blinds in Vancouver do a few shades. They mis-measured and had to reinstall three times leaving me the holes to fill and paint (with no apology or discount - I believe they are out of business now which indicates I was not the only one). Install done today 12/19/11 in the midst of other people doing work and after six months of sub damage, I was rather frazzled since I moving in next week. Dale was patient and considerate. Not often one's expectation are exceeded but provided the products hold up - they were! Update 10/9/13; Dale has been back a couple of times since; to order one more shutter for a small bathroom window and then to reverse the slats on vertical blinds at no charge since the view outside has changed now that a house is being built. He has been very reliable and responsive!

We met Dale at the Home and Garden Show in January. We had a good feeling about him from the start, and when our house was close to being ready we called him (as well as 4 other vendors) for an estimate. I already knew what I wanted and had gotten other estimates so the selection process was easy, although I was glad that he offered his opinion on fabric choices, operating chord choices and color. I felt that he truly understood my needs and budget, offering lower price options where possible. When we first talked to him he suggested that we call him when the carpet was installed in our house, which would give us enough time to receive the order and have them installed before moving in. He was right on. We were able to make our choices when the paint and flooring were in so that we could be certain about the colors, but didn't have bare windows once we moved in. Everything took about 3 weeks as he said it would. When he came to do the installation he found that 4 of the shades were the wrong size. Not sure where the error was made, but he had replacements within a week. A week ago I received an unexpected call from him. When installing one of the 3 shades in the master bedroom he noticed that the color on one of them was off, so he ordered 3 additional shades and was calling to schedule installation. I would have never noticed this, as it was such a slight variation, but appreciate his attention to detail. As for price, he was absolutely the lowest. A couple were off by a few thousand, but the closest bid was from Budget Blinds in Vancouver and Dale was about $500 less than theirs. I honestly had a hard time deciding because I knew that Budget Blinds would match the price and I liked the owner just as much, but I decided to go with Dale because he came in the lowest from the start and I didn't want to play games with either of them. I'm thrilled with the product and the service I've received, and gladly recommend this company!

I called the number and received a voice mail message that indicated he would return the call after finishing with the current important customer - a nice message. I left a message explaining what I needed and what hours I would be at the work phone number during the current day. About a week later, I received a call back and an appology for waiting so long to call. He explained the charge for re-stringing the blind and the service call and was able to make an appointment for about 1 1/2 weeks later. On the morning of the 9am appointment, he arrived less than 1/2 hour late - not a surprise, because we can be a bit hard to find. He was very professional and courteous and went right to work. He took the shade down, did the restringing, and then removed the weights in the bottom rail. He explained how we can raise these large shades without causing as much stress on the cords and showed us how to remove the weights from the other blinds in the house. Upon our request, he discussed options for a motorized window treatment on a high entryway window. We were very pleased with him and would certainly call him again.

The day before my home was to go on the market, the cord on my wooden blind suddenly broke and the blind wouldn't raise or lower. I called and explained my problem. How thrilled was I when I was told that he was already working very nearby and would stop by as soon as he finished the other job. Within an hour he was hard at work at my house and had the blind working in no time. Fantastic service!

I have no complaints. If there was an issue, he took care of it right away. However, the issues were not due to his error. He didn't try to sell us the most expensive brand either. There were rebates offered, but he showed us that it was cheaper to go with the less expensive shades and not get the rebate. He was very attentive while at our house and would always get back to us right away if we had a question. Very pleasant experience, well as pleasant as an experience can be when you have to spend a lot of money due to many windows in our new home.

Fantastic experience. He showed up to all appointments right on time and ready to go. He had excellent suggestions and info to help me choose my blinds. He saved me a few hundred by offering to repair (at no cost) a blind I was prepared to replace. He did excellent work installing the new blinds when they arrived. He's a friendly, professional individual. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

In a previous home, we had a horrible experience with 31 window coverings from one the "big box" hardware stores. We decided to go to a direct source for window treatments this time around; one that not only sold the product but also did the installation. After some research, we selected The Blind Guy in Vancouver, WA. Dale was prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional throughout the process. He brought numerous samples to choose from and was candid in his discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of the products. He knows his products very well and was extremely helpful in deciding what was appropriate for our application in terms of function and color. The leadtime from the time we ordered to day of installation was within our expectation and reasonable, particularly given the approach of the Thanksgiving holiday. We are very pleased with the outcome.

The sun shade arrived first. Dale quickly installed the sun shade and adjusted. The shade seemed to be slightly uneven. Dale re-measured and the window frame was even. We decided to wait and let it settle for a few days (while waiting for the wooden shutters) to determine if it was the result of shipping or the material. I paid the remaining portion for the sun shade only (credit card). I like the fact that I can keep the sun/glare out of the office, but still have a nice view. When the wooden shutters arrived, Dale installed easily and they look great. Very pleased. He also replaced the broken parts on our existing sliding door shade. I was happy that I didn't have to replace the entire shade. Cost for repair was significantly less than replacement (paid check for parts & labor). I paid the remaining for the wooden shudders (credit card). The sun shade was still uneven so Dale re-measured (tripple check) and is contacting the vendor for a complete replacement as this appears to be a factory defect. Very pleased with Dale and his good nature and professionalism. I will be using him again when I replace many of the other blinds in the house (with duets) next season.
Description of Work: I ordered a sun shade for my home office (one wide window) and wooden shutters for the front entry on each side of the front door. Dale provided estimates based upon discussions and then installed after the order arrived. Dale also ordered some replacement parts for an existing sliding door shade and then installed the parts. Requires 1/2 for deposit (credit card) and the 1/2 upon delivery/installation.

I had several blinds with broken cords that needed repair, plus a few I wanted to replace. I expected the first visit to be simply a sales call, but Dale fixed all the broken blinds on the spot and helped me choose the replacement blinds that fit my design goals and my budget. He's a good listener and quickly understood what I wanted for both look and function with the new blinds. There was no sales pressure - just a genuine desire to provide a high quality product and service. When the new blinds were ready he came back and installed them. Dale is polite, cheerful, punctual and extremely knowledgeable about all the products he sells. It's clear he really enjoys his work and that made him a pleasure to work with.

Phase 3 ($1921.63) involved selecting and installing Graber Traditions Wood Blinds in six master bedroom suite windows with wood valances to maximize light control and access to the views, yet provide adequate window insulation. The work was completed in September 2007. Phase 4 ($1278.92) involved selecting and installing five light-filtering wood shades for a master bathroom suite and a guest bathroom to enhance the d?cor while preserving natural light and visual access to multiple views. The work was completed in October 2007. Dale was wonderful to work with throughout all phases of these projects. He is extremely professional, very patient to find just the right colors and solutions for our rooms, and a meticulous installer. He also helped to arrange financing so that we could afford the blinds that really were the best choices for our home.
Description of Work: Over a six-month period, Dale helped us upgrade and change the window coverings in our entire home. The project was divided into four phases, since we were simultaneously involved in some major remodeling, painting and redecorating in our new home as we transformed a country style farmhouse into a rustic Tuscan villa. Phase 1 ($1,876.19) involved selecting and installing wood blinds for two side panel windows in an entry to match a new mahogany door, plus selecting and installing Insolroll Shades with wood valances for eight windows and a French door in a combined great room and nook area to preserve a wonderful view. The work was completed in May of 2007. Phase 2 ($5,855.78) involved selecting and installing Hunter Douglas Silhouettes in five living room and dining room windows, plus Hunter Douglas Alouettes in three bedrooms and office windows to enhance the room décor as well as protect the view by day and privacy at night. The work was completed in July 2007.
