During the course of emailing the Revival contact (manager), he learned of my Christian faith. He then used my faith to try and convince me that is the reason I should pay the entire balance owed to the company despite the obvious error on their part and breaking the signed, written contract we had. He used, what felt like, intimidating words/tactics to get me to settle with his company and pay them even though they clearly were wrong. Never did Revival own up to their error in a professional manner by taking responsibility and offering to refund me my deposit or money in full. Instead they insisted on me paying the balance owed. It was only after I emailed back and forth with them several times and negotiated/suggested (only because I was worn down) to go our separate ways with what had been paid out already, did they agree to "leave the matter alone". They didn't even do as promised and pay for the cleaning of the excessive dust left inside my home from the cellulose being blown in incorrectly. Jim (the Revival contact) initially agreed to pay for that cost, but then decided to take back that offer, leaving me to pay for cleaning cost. I was promised if they destroyed or harmed my siding in any way, they would replace it; yet, Revival used siding I had here already to replace several pieces of broken siding. Overall, other then the fact that their workers who actually did the job were friendly and on time, I was completely unsatisfied with Revival and if I had the strength, time and energy, would have filed a complaint with the CCB and BBB against them. I know I will never recommend anyone use them for any reason!
Description of Work: Revival was hired/contracted to install(blow in) fiberglass insulation to the outside walls of my 98-year-old house, but instead blew in cellulose insulation "by accident". When the mistake was discovered, I was told there was no way to correct the error. Also, several pieces of my siding were destroyed and needed to be replaced, which I had to replace at my expense. The company then insisted I pay the balance for the work completed even though the work was incorrect. After several emails and lot of negotiating on my part, I was able to get the Revival to agree to accept no further payment from me other then the 1/2 down I already made via my deposit. In addition, I had to pay a cleaning service to remove several layers of dust from the inside of my home caused by the cellulose insulation being blown in my home.

Response from Revival Energy LLC
The only part of this review that is correct is that we made a mistake. We blew cellulose insulation in the walls instead of fiberglass insulation. We went above and beyond with this customer after we realized the mistake. The customer requested a bid to blow insulation in her walls. When our estimator went out, he provided the customer with a bid for cellulose insulation for $2291 and noted that her siding was in poor shape. He said that our crew would be very gentle with the siding removal but that splitting of the lap siding could happen because of the brittle condition. Another contractor was replacing the siding on the back of the house while we were blowing in the insulation. He gave us some scrap pieces which we used to make repairs at no additional cost. A week after receiving the bid, the customer requested to move forward. Our Operations Manager put her job on the work schedule, started a file for the job crew, and sent a contract. The customer decided she wanted fiberglass instead of cellulose insulation. Our estimator provided a new bid of $2554 because fiberglass is more difficult to blow in. Our Operations Manager sent a new contract and the customer paid a deposit of $1300. Unfortunately our Operations Manager forgot to update the file for the job crew. It was a purely honest mistake that we wish hadn't happened and we have changed our procedure to prevent this type of error from recurring. Our Operations Manager felt incredibly bad about it and apologized repeatedly. Blowing the insulation in did blow dust into the stairwell through cracks between the stairs and the walls. Any type of blown-in insulation would have had this effect in this home because of the leaky construction that allowed excessive dust to accumulate in the walls over the decades. It is difficult to determine beforehand how much dust might be expelled because each old home is different. To atone for using the wrong insulation product, we offered to reduce the price back to the cellulose bid price and to pay for house cleaning. The customer said she would get a bid for house cleaning the next day, but she did not. We then offered instead to reduce the price to $1500 ($791 off the cellulose price) in lieu of paying for a cleaner so that the situation could be resolved. In response, she had her siding contractor call us and demand a full refund, (which we thought was unreasonable). He threatened that she would take us to court, would contact the BBB and the Construction Contractors Board, and would report us for unsafe lead paint work practices (which again was a false allegation) if we did not comply with his demands. The customer did not talk to us for the next week and made us talk through her siding contractor, who used vulgar and abusive language. We finally refused to talk to the contractor because of his abusive language. The customer said we ruined her health, damaged her siding and made a mess in her house. We apologized profusely and offered several solutions all of which were rejected short of receiving the full job at no cost with many threats to harm our company's good reputation if we didn't comply. We tried one last time to speak to her heart and to try to reach a compromise. We did not try to intimidate her in anyway. We asked her to at least offer up an acceptable solution short of a full refund. On 11/17/15 she responded by email "At the end-of-the-day, perhaps the only solution is to dissolve said contract and both call it even. We immediately accepted this offer and issued a credit of $991 for the balance due. The customer ultimately paid $1300 of the $2291 cellulose bid. We consider the issue resolved. We had already agreed to the customer's solution and met her conditions before she filed this complaint. Is the customer asking for another $1000 off, to get the whole job for essentially nothing? The customer still got her whole house insulated. It will be much more comfortable and energy efficient than before, and that is worth something!

It went really well. Ben was very friendly and knowledgeable. I didnt have any issues asking him questions, even the ones that I thought might be dumb. He gave me multiple options for each thing that needed to be fixed and did a great job explaining why there was an issue. Once the inspection was done, he explained everything his company could do to help fix these issues and even provided pricing for each fix. There was no pressure to use his company's services after the inspection, but chances are really high that I will be contacting Ben in the near future to have some of these items taken care of. I cant recommend his services and knowledge enough. If was great to have a professional come to my house and talk me through all the things that I could do to improve my home.
Description of Work: Ben came to our house and checked the attic and crawl space mainly, but did a quick pass throughout the rest of the house. He looked for ways to improve ventilation and air flow. He also found areas of mold and was able to identify what the mold was from. We talked through each step of the inspection so I could understand what my options were and why these things needed to be fixed.

The experience did not work out very good. I didn't get what I expected. I expected an energy audit, and what I got was proposal to do work, and I paid for that. I didn't like that. They said it was discounted, so I paid $50, but that was $50 for an estimate. They did the audit, and they said they could do this work for x number of dollars. The estimate was pretty high. We are talking thousands of dollars. There are other companies that I saw on Angie's List, and I will have them come out and give me an estimate, and I am sure they won't charge me for an estimate. I think what they did is unethical.
Description of Work: They went in and did an inspection, and they didn't give me a report. They gave me an estimate, and said this is the problem, and this is how much we will charge to fix it.

We purchased an older home last year and knew that we'd need a lot of updates to the infrastructure especially insulation, windows, plumbing, electrical, etc. We also knew that we'd have to do these updates over a few years and couldn't budget to have them done all at once. After collecting proposals and quotes from a few companies (mostly that were reviewed in Angie's List), we chose Revival Energy LLC to help with some of our list. I think it's fair to say that they didn't have the lowest quote, but they were reasonably competitive and the knowledge, expertise, and overall recommendations helped us easily justify the slight difference that gave us peace of mind in the work we'd be having them perform. Initially they visited our home and performed an energy audit. We'd had one performed already by the PUD (which was also SUPER! they're great, too, and we recommend always starting there), but we felt them performing their own audit would be the best place to start to understand what this group proposed was best bang for our buck. Their recommendations aligned closely with what we'd already gotten from the PUD--that made us feel even more confident about the path we were taking. There are certain activities that are normally included in their audit that they could not perform because there is some asbestos tape on our older heating system's ductwork. Because of this they eliminated related charges. Ben Fish--their Building Analyst that performed the audit--offered loads of good advice and observations. We just kept taking notes upon notes. He gave his time generously and stayed as long as it took to answer the fairly endless (and we're sure for him horribly repetitive) list of questions that we had. This also aligned with much of what we'd heard from others we know and trust and it, too, boosted our confidence in this team. We chose to have them first tackle the attic insulation, sealing and ventilation work. Their team arrived on time, they were professional, they answered questions well, they coordinated well with each other while performing the work, and were courteous and polite. They were respectful of our property and coordinated with us when going into areas of the home where our pets were confined to. We are happy with the work that they completed. It did make a big difference as we transitioned from hot to cooler weather. We still have a long list of work that needs completed and we expect to have Revival Energy back to help tackle more on our list.
Description of Work: First an energy audit. Then later they completed attic ventilation, attic air sealing, and attic insulation services.

Fantastic from start to finish. Ben came in for the energy audit, was very helpful and friendly, and provided a bid for the ductless system, which was significantly lower than other quotes I got from other highly reviewed Angie's List providers. The guys who installed the system were prompt, friendly and accommodating, and did a great job. When we had an issue a month or two down the line--not Revival's issue at all, but a Mitsubishi issue due to our particular situation--Robert researched the issue, found the solution and spent two hours not just fixing the problem but also helping us with other efficiency tips, no charge. Can't recommend them highly enough on all counts.

Ben arrived promptly at the agreed upon time. Very professional and knowledgeable, did a thorough attic inspection and wrote up recommendations. I was very impressed and decided to have all the work done that he recommended. All the work was done professionally and was of high quality in my estimation. I felt it was a good value and over the years the work will pay for itself in energy savings. There was a delay in the work because the attic vents I wanted in the color I wanted them were on back order, but other than that everything went great. The scheduler Jim unfortunately got to experience a bit of frustration from me when the vents were on back order, but he was very patient, professional and understanding. I am very happy with the work and I would definitely use them again, except now my home is about as energy efficient as it's going to get, so I don't think I'll have opportunity to use them again!
Description of Work: Air sealed all cracks and crevices in attic with expanding foam insulation. Removed improperly installed insulation, sealed HVAC ducts in attics and tested for air leaks. insulated skylight, installed two new attic vents through cement tile roof, vented two bath exhaust fans through cement tile roof, blew in new insulation in attic to R-38, which also served as insulation for the HVAC duct work (previously about R-8 due to improper installation of batt insulation years ago. Weatherstrip door to attic and ceiling trap door.

Great! They came out on the worse day of winter when the city was practically shut down and schools were closed due to snow. Still made their appointment and very punctual. The specialist was professional and very thorough. He originally scheduled to spend around 3-4 hours with his inspection but it did not take that long. He measured the exchange of heat and air through out the house and measured the insulation of the walls, floor and roof. He inspected the windows and doors for quality and leaks. He calculated our energy bill and usage on our household appliances(washer, dryer, refrigerator and so on). He gave us a full 14 page report that same day after the inspection. My husband and I were very pleased with this service.

Ben arrived with proper tools to include body suit analysis tools, and first explained what attic inspection service entails, and then started measuring the size of my attic before entering the attic. Took his time inspecting and when finished, informed me that basically attic was okay but for some areas and mentioned what is critical and what is not. Although not originally planned, he also looked at the insulation in the crawl space and noticed some water there so he suggested not only insulation but also water removal options. Ben mentioned he was an engineer by education and seemed very knowledgeable about the options and approx. cost (his company does not do that). He was very thorough and received an estimate of the options he mentioned during his visit. VERY VERY HAPPY with the service!!

Robert showed up on time. He was very knowledgeable and professional and took the time to educate me about how my system worked and how to keep it working at peak performance. He also explained that his company's main emphasis was on doing home energy audits which consisted of analyzing a home's total energy performance in terms of efficiency, conservation, comfort, and air quality. And based on the objective factors determined by that audit they would make recommendations for improving your home's energy efficiency and comfort. I was so impressed with his knowledge and objectivity that about a month later I hired the company to do an energy audit of my home and was very pleased with the results. I would highly recommend this company and would recommend having an energy audit done by them on your home. At the least it is a very educational experience. At the most it could end up saving you lots of money in the long run.

The crew arrived on time with all the necessary equipment and materials to complete the job. They put down [plastic sheeting below the attic access to collect the dust and insulation that fell into the living area. The crew explained what they were going to do, answered all our questions and assisted with photographs of the before and after installations. The job required installing four new roof vents and replacing one existing roof vent to provide proper venting of the dryer and the bathroom and washroom exhaust fans. This included replacing the existing exhaust ducting, which apparently was improperly installed during the original construction. The crew was very efficient and thorough, and the job went extremely well. They were knowledgeable of all the code requirements and made sure that the installation was correct. They cleaned up all the debris and old ducting and left the house as clean as when they arrived. Our dryer and exhaust fans now perform better than previously and we are very happy with the results. The crew was very pleasant to work with and kept us informed of their progress. We would definitely hire them to do future work.

After a thorough search it was discovered that your request from our website was not forwarded to our scheduling email address. We try hard to contact all our prospects within one business day. Revival Energy does provide a variety of no cost bids including heating & cooling manual J heat loss calculations for their clients. Paid testing includes air quality monitoring, radon testing, and energy audits which includes measuring of the building envelope air leakage for heat loss and cooling loss to accurately recommend remedies to help give the most comfort & efficiency change in a home. We do hundreds of Energy Retrofit projects each year and are goal is to meet the needs and expectation of all our clients. Unfortunately sometimes things just happen. We were not purposely ignoring you but due to the forwarding error we just didn’t receive your request causing us to fall short of your expectations and we are sorry for letting you down.

I was glad I hired this company, as I've had two other companies in for some type of work done and was told that some insulation in my crawl space was missing in a 12 x 15 section and that I needed to have that done. I'm glad I declined when I was given an estimate of that cost. I was told $600.00 at minimum since my crawl space is very narrow to work in. Revival negated the need to have that done. The rep said that while the insulation was sagging in some spots, none was missing so the cost to have that restrung tighter and some heat tape added would in the long run be more costly and I wouldn't really recover much in the overall energy consumption since my furnace was a high efficient one. I was very glad to hear that report. Revival also asked about the Windows and Doors. I've had some, not all, replaced. I'm very happy I bought that special deal for $99.00 to have Revival come out and check. I know what, if any, improvements are needed and the overall energy savings and dollars I'd recover to have those things done. Revival is an independent energy audit company. They do not sell...so the report given is a non-biased, no sale one.

Ben Fish showed up right on time, went up to my attic space for a visual inspection (something I should have done a long time ago but didn't) and measured the depth of insulation, appliance efficiency, energy loss from floor/walls/windows, and put it on a nice, easy-to-read spreadsheet, as well as throroughly explained everything. There was absolutely no pressure to buy anything, as there had been in the past with HVAC repairmen. One reason I wanted this audit was for the impartial 3rd party feedback, which is exactly what I got.
Description of Work: Money well-spent! I am so glad I had this audit - my house is 18 years old and I wasn't sure how much life was left in my furnace, but Ben checked it out and gave me some really good feedback on that, and some other ways I can improve the efficiency of my house. More importantly, he had great advice on what not to do, which is get suckered into buying heating and central AC units that would be too big for my little house, and where not to waste my money.
