+ -1 moreI bought a Big Deal for Revival Energy Group to have an energy audit and attic insulation work done on my home. When I talked to Jim at Revival to schedule the work he asked about asbestos in my home, which there is as it's almost 100 years old. He explained to me the danger of conducting the blow test with the materials in my home and provided me with information on abating and encasing the material, which must be done before Revival could do any work. Unfortunately, I can't finance the additional work right now, so Jim offered to have Angie's List refund the Big Deal amount (which they did promptly).I was really impressed with the concern Revival showed for the health and safety of my family and for the great information they provided me to have the abatement/encasement work performed. Jim showed a high level of professionalism and I have nothing but good things to say about my contacts with the company. When we are ready to have the efficiency and insulation work done I will certainly call Revival to do the work.

Description of Work: We were freezing in the winter and boiled in the summer. We hired Revival Energy to do an audit and ended up using them to put in a ductless heat pump as well as sealing the air leaks. They were AWESOME!! Nicest people to work with from the scheduler, Jim to the guys who had to crawl up into the attic! Thank you for such a great experience.

+ -1 moreRobert came out to do a home energy/health/safety assessment and did a terrific job in pointing out the things I could do to improve the house and what would give me the best improvements for the cheapest costs. I was impressed with his knowledge and no nonsense demeanor. He did not try to sell me on unnecessary improvements and even pointed out how I could do them if I wanted to tackle them myself. When he started the inspection he immediately discovered the duct work was covered in asbestos paper tape insulation. This was never pointed out in prior home inspections and I was completely unaware of it at the time. Because of this, Robert was unable to run all of the tests needed to provide a complete assessment but he did offer solutions to fix the issue and said he would be happy to return to complete the job when the health hazard was resolved. Overall I was impressed with their professionalism and would be happy to have them perform work in the home or additional inspections as needed.

They then proceeded to take measurements, test appliances, the furnace, walk around the outside of the house, check the attic and gave us a 35 page report on what they found.

+ -1 moreGreat experience! There was a slight miscommunication with appointment time (they had 1pm and I had 2pm), but I called them and they turned right around and came back to our home. Great guys!
Description of Work: Robert and his assistant Jim came out to our house and did a very thorough home energy assessement. The process was quite involved and very detailed. Robert used a thermal infrared camera which took pictures both normally and thermally. With these photos he was able to show us where heat was escaping and where it was building up (in our garage unfortunately!). The majority of the work occurred inside with Jim running the tests and reporting back to Robert who took the data and plugged into his software. They looked at our energy bills over the last year to see how much gas and electricity we were using and how much we were paying, they assessed every single light in our house determing how much we pay for lighting alone, they evaluated each of our major appliances to determine their contribution to our energy bill and recommended which ones to replace based upon age and enery use, they pressurized our house to see where air was escaping, they looked at our insulation in both the attic and crawlspace, and they checked our ductwork for air leakage. Instead of trying to sell us anything, they offered suggestions the common homeowner could do themselves to fix some the problems they found. With all of the data in their software they presented us with a very nice packet that described what they looked at and why, how to fix it, current cost/usage versus what to expect if issues were addressed, a summary of important findings, comparison pictures with their thermal camera, and finally recommendations base upon their findings and the cost. The packet they sent was very detailed, but easy to understand with graphs and charts and pictures. I really appreciated the time and work that they put into this evaluation. Both Robert and Jim were very professional and very nice. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in energy efficiency or just trying to make your home feel more comfortable.

Some I probably new about but the testing process demonstrates just how much transfer is really going on such that my imperative has been raised for addressing some of the issues in our home. I found both gentlemen to be professional and well prepared for conducting this service. They were efficient in their execution of duties and invested approximately 2 hours +/-. I understand that they perform some of the remediation services and are licensed contractors such that they can arrange to have recommendations implemented if desired. I also appreciate the low pressure approach Robert displayed and found this predominately an educational / informative experience. It was known up front that I too am a remodeling contractor and as such knowledgeable about construction features as well as capable of implementing recommendations. I am thoroughly pleased with their service and would recommend this evaluation / testing at their stated "normal pricing" of approximately $250+. Awareness is 1/2 the battle in my opinion and then working through the improvements as budget will allow. Good job guys!
Description of Work: I took advantage of the Big Deal offering and had then out to perform an energy audit. Robert was the primary account person and handled most of our interactions. Jarred was the technician and was all business and efficiently moved through our home doing set up and testing protocols. Robert was responsible for educating me on home enegry features and concepts for how homes deal with air infilltration and heat loss. Testing included documenting all rooms of the home for square footages, penetrations, lighting, windows, etc, pressure testing the home for air flow from attic and crawl spaces, pressure testing furnace ducting, and thermal imaging of ceiling, wall, and floors. An email was delivered next day with attached pdf files with report of findings, recommendations for improving home comfort and energy management plus a proposal for performing some of the potential improvements.

+ -1 moreThey were very easy and pleasant to work with. We felt like it was a helpful assessment. We will probably make some changes to our home based on what they said. They seemed to be very knowledgeable and interesting. What I really liked about them is that they were here for an assessment and not for selling. They did not push some products to us. They were really doing what they said they will be doing and I really appreciate that. The quality of work they did was very good. I will use them again, and I would recommend them to others.

+ -1 moreIt was one of those big deals. They were very professional and I really liked working with them. I thought they were a bit too technical for most people because they ended up with lots of charts and graphs. I'm not really sure if that was meaningful to be at the end but I'm glad they did it. I didn't end up using their service after they did the survey because it wasn't beneficial for me. They told me things that were really important for which I had to do the money out to change it. Everything that I could have done was far more expensive than I really needed to at this point. I did like working with them, they were nice guys and spent a lot of time with me. I would certainly recommend them to people. They were very professional and they worked very hard to come up with reports. They would be more useful to someone who really has some severe problems with their house that needed fixed which wasn't the case for me.

+ -1 moreI was extremely impressed. Robert has extensive up-to-date knowledge (which he was happy to share), experience, and the necessary equipment to get detailed quantitative data. Their company can do the insulation and sealing work needed, but he never pushed us to buy anything from them. I trust very few contractors to do any work in our home because it is rarely done to my standards or as well as I would do myself, but I may have ("may" simply because we haven't had them do any of the insulating work yet) found a company that I would have confidence in, and there is a high chance that we'll decide to have them do some of the work in the future. For the price they are offering the Energy Audit through Angies List ($79), it is a no-brainer, as it will give useful energ data and very likely will pay for itself in little time.
Description of Work: Purchased the "Big Deal" offered through Angies List for Whole House Energy Audit. We opted to do a more extensive thermal imaging analysis, blower door test, and duct leakage test in place of the entire audit, since I was most interested in seeing which walls had existing insulation. Robert performed the blower door test, and took infra-red images in every room of the house. He identified walls with missing insulation, and air leaks. He tested the heating ducts for leakage, the static pressure in the ducts, the combustion efficiency of our furnace, and checked for gas leaks. He emailed a 27 page report with all the images and a summary of the findings the same day.

I am waiting for the rest of the details from then and will probably work with Revival to contract the work after getting the make-myself-feel-like-I-am-getting-the-most-for-my-money estimates from other companies. Coincidentally, I am a science teacher and taught my students about thermal energy and heat transfer today in class, so I was very interested in the science behind the work. The guys answered all of my questions and clearly love their job and the positive affect they can have for families. I wish I hadn't waited for so long to be armed with this info.
Description of Work: The guys came out to do an energy audit; I purchased The Big Deal on Angie's List. They came on time, and I expected them to be here for a good chunk of time, but they were here for a good 2.5 to 3 hours. They were incredibly thorough, investigating energy use and efficiencies that I had never thought about. Robert explained things in much detail, answering all of my science questions about how our house actually works. They tested air flow in and out of the house, tested my furnace, and calculated air volume and energy usage.

Description of Work: Revival Energy carried out an energy audit on my house and alerted to me to the presence of several areas of air leakage. They sealed areas on all exterior walls and windows along with areas in the attic and crawl space. During the process of sealing the crawlspace, water egress and associated damage was identified. Revival proposed and carried out a repair which they did with the utmost diligence, and the price was very agreeable.

+ 0 moreJim and Robert arrived on time to provide me with an estimate. Their assessment was the most thorough out of the contractors who gave me bids. They made sure that the job wasn't just going to be done with the minimum needed but that it be done properly. The ducting in my attic was a mess - distintegrated, unsealed and completely disconnected in places. My young son of 4 years old coughs with asthma throughout the winter, despite receiving ongoing steroid treatment, and they explained that the gaps in the air return register were causing the air in our house to be contaminated with particles of fiberglass from the attic insulation. They fit me into their schedule quickly and arrived as arranged. They worked quickly, neatly and efficiently, and finished the job in less time than expected. They even determined that a new register was needed to balance the system, and they installed it even while being uncertain that they would be reimbursed. I think they did an excellent job, for a reasonable amount of money, and I trust that the job was done properly. I am looking forward to seeing improvements in my son's health too.
Description of Work: Jim and Robert and their crew replaced the entire duct system in my attic, removing the broken and spent ducts, sealing the system, and installing a new air return register.

+ 1 moreRobert and his very polite and respectful crew of two arrived on time and were very courteous while working in our home. They made great efforts to conform to our somewhat chaotic schedule which involved mid-day start times. While at our home, Robert took a lot time to explain what he was finding and what it meant to the heating and cooling efficiency of our home. Even though he had contracted to perform work only in the attic area, he went above and beyond the call by investigating a complaint we made about the heating and cooling in my daughter's room. He crawled through our crawl space and found and fixed a loose duct connections which fed my daughter's room. Right now it's 45 degrees outside and our house has held the same temperature since Robert left 4 hours ago with the heat pump turned off.
Description of Work: Robert provided an energy audit for our 18-year-old home which included objective tests for heat capturing and breathability of our home. One of the tests involved a large fan that created a negative pressure in the house and compared that to the pressure outside the house. With the results, we were able to see how good/bad the air leakage was in our home. He also had an infrared camera/viewer that showed hot/cold points around the house so we could see where along the ceiling, windows and walls additional insulation might help. We elected to go with the air sealing and the additional attic insulation which would take us from an R-11 to an R-40.
