Ben, the auditor, arrived early and unloaded his equipment. He was dressed professionally and had a very clean-cut look. He began by setting up some of his equipment and then I took him on a tour of the house showing him the various heating vents and access points in the house. As he got oriented, we moved into the attic. Ben pointed out that the insulation wrapping the ductwork was worn and giving the age of the house (1948) he indicated that it was asbestos insualtion and he could not perform the tests. However, Ben then took the time to look at our other ductwork in the crawlspace and explain how its structure, typical of 1948 homes, was robbing us of heat at the far end of the house. We also went upstairs and to the garage, where he assured me that the ductwork was sound. Ben then took the time to complete the audit based on benchmark standards so I could have a better understanding of our sources and usage of energy. He also provided us with a quote to replace our entire ductwork and our furnace if we decided to do that. He was very patient with all my questions and explained the physics of the heating system very clearly so I could understand why with a 125K BTU furnace our home still felt cold in some parts of the house. He even offered to come out again to answer any questions my wife would have and gave me contact information on how to have the asbestos tested -- he acknowledged he could be wrong, but did not think so -- and what the cost would be to remove the asbestos. He even reached out the next day to make sure we were doing ok. In all, he spent over 3 hours providing me with consulting, education, and inspection services that were far beyond just the simple audit he came to service. It showed a concern and caring that is difficult to find in most businesses today. Revival Energy is definitely a company that I would use when addressing the HVAC and energy use of my home.
Description of Work: The scheduled service was to perform a home comfort analysis requiring forcing air through our duct system and taking measurements of our home to determine our energy usage and where we were losing energy through our walls, attics, and crawlspaces. The end result would be a list of improvements that would help lower our energy bills and provide us with various rebates and tax credits to offset the costs of any improvements.Unfortunately, Ben, the auditor, found exposed asbestos and could not perform the analysis since forcing air through the duct system would disturb the asbestos particles. Overall, my experience with Revival Energy Group and their work was just wonderful, from the start to the finish. From the beginning to the end, Jim B provided great coordination of the project and in making sure that my questions got answered. He also made sure that my inputs and desires with the project were addressed. Ben was very thorough and informative in providing the intial enegy audit. He also returned at the end to provide some of the final testing, including a measurement of the air volume flow from the new ducts at the registers. As for the installation work itself, Meng and his crew and also the insulation crew were also top notch. They were punctual, worked carefully and efficiently and were well experienced in what they were doing. They took great efforts to keeping the areas around the working area clean and protected (removing shoes, putting up plastic sheet barriers and floor protection runners, etc). Also, at the end of each workday, they removed all their materials, tools, and protective sheeting and did a cleaning. Meng also conducted some of the final testing, and like Ben, provided great explanation of what he was doing, as he did it. Marko performed a large portion of the final testing after the installation was completed and like Meng and Ben, provided me with great explanation of what he was doing and the results. Marko also explained and helped me with the energy rebate forms. Again all part of the great experience I had with Revival Energy Group. When all was done, Revival Energy provided the help with the energy rebate and tax credit forms that were involved (the amount shown as spent takes into account the rebates). Again, my experience with Revival Energy was great from start to finish. I highly recommend them.

Ben and Robert were super awesome;helpful and informative-even my dogs loved them (: They were right on time and They made things easy to understand and made recommendations that would be beneficial in a way that made sense but also not in a sales-y, pushy kind of way, the report was simple and easy to understand, and broken down into where my energy loss was going, and how much it was costing, they were great and separated the recommendations into smaller jobs in order of efficiency to accommodation my budget. When I initially scheduled my appointment I spoke with Jim (the owner I believe) he was very nice and explained the benefits of the audit, as well as told me about the energy trust rebate

They came out in January after we became a member. It was a special deal and it was $69. They identified where we could lose heat and what we could do about it and they sent a report of the work afterwards. It was great and very good as well. I have told my family members and friends what they did approximately and someone wanted to know a little bit more about that and I sent them an email so that they can check it out themselves. They were very professional and very friendly. The price was excellent as it was a special deal.

They were extremely helpful and informative. I walked around the house with them as they performed the audit. I was able to see areas of energy loss as they used the audit equipment .There was a slight issue with the energy trust rebate and I could not be more impressed with the way it was handled by Jim Ballman at Revival. He kept in touch with me thru the entire process and made sure I knew what the status of the processing was If I decide to proceed with any work, I will definitely call these folks. They strike me as first class.

I was referred to Revival from my boss at work. He commented on how informative the whole experience was. We recently had photovoltaic (solar) panels put on our roof and we consider energy efficiency a high priority for our household. Also, there was a special promotional price being offered via Angies List, so everything seemed aligned to work with Revival. Robert came out and performed the initial audit. He was simply fantastic. Incredibly knowledgable, professional, thorough, and willing to take the time to explain everything to me, which very much appeals to my "engineering" mind. Even though we have a newer home and our house is in relatively good shape energy-efficiency-wise, the ROI worked out to under 8 years for payback (with tax incentives, rebates, etc.) and, as noted before, energy efficiency is important to us and I felt that even without the ROI, it was worth doing. We checked Revival out on Angies List and that just further increased my comfort, so we made the plunge. They scheduled the workers to come out over three days. The team was here each day on time. They did a great job communicating with me what they were going to do and when. They made it very easy to work around them (I was working from my home office while they were here). They cleaned up after themselves (what little there was to clean up). Everything I saw and heard made me feel they were doing high quality work in a thoughtful way, as if they were working on their own home. It wasn't "perfect" - while using some expanding foam sealant above a can light in the ceiling one of the chemicals ran out, causing a pretty significant spill on to the carpet below. They offered to go rent a carpet cleaner, but I have one and thought it would be no big deal to just clean it up myself after they left for the day. My mistake - it created a big hard lump in the carpet, essentially ruining it. We plan on replacing the carpet anyway at some point, it is not in a main public space, and they did offer to clean it up themselves, so I am not mad about it, but I do wish I had let them (try to) clean it up. The only real suggestion I have that would have materially improved my experience would have been if Revival had been a little more educated on the broad range of various incentives and rebates for which the work qualified. There were maybe a dozen different possible incentives from various government entities (federal, state, local) and utilities. When you add the incentives associated with the solar power installation, it got even more complicated. While Robert was able to point me to specific web pages from which I ultimately gleaned all of the information I needed, it just seems like Revival should have spelled it out for me, step by step, helping ensure I got every dollar for which I was eligible. To be fair, at least partially in response to my feedback provided at the time, they did set out to develop that level of expertise so that they could provide that higher level of assistance for future customers. Bottom line - they did exactly what they said they would do, they charged less than what they said they would charge, they did it when they said they would do it, and I am completely satisfied. I would absolutely use them again and have recommended them to friends and family.

Two men from R.E. came, went through our whole house room by room, and assessed efficiency of insulation and heat loss using their high tech equipment. They were friendly, explained everything they were doing, and obtained necessary information about out home and appliances to generate our energy audit. We received a very informative report, and are very glad that we took advantage of this service.

It turned out that they had underestimated the difficultly of working on our house (the small attic crawlspace made it hard to get to everything, there were several holes not found on their inspection, and they had to hire a subcontractor to place a bathroom vent through our tile roof instead of through a nearby wall, as had been planned), but they did all that was needed to fix everything at no additional charge. Their workers were friendly, enthusiastic and professional, and ensured that everything was perfect before they were finished (on time!). And they cleaned up after themselves. Testing after completion of the work showed that the air leakage had dropped to well below half of what it had been, and we can tell the difference in comfort and how often our heater runs.
Description of Work: After an energy audit by Revival, I was sufficiently impressed to hire them to do the work needed to improve our home's energy efficiency and fix the problems that they had found. Our house was very leaky, confirmed by their testing, and they found and plugged all the areas (around fixtures, windows, doors, etc) that let conditioned air escape.

We had moved to our condo in June from Richmond, Va. and had been thrilled to not have to run the a/c constantly. But the heating system was frustrating and we received 2 monthly bills of over $250. Ben Fish came and explained again that he couldn't do their usual assessment because I was in an apartment. But he spent more than an hour here and identified several areas that would help us be warmer as well as more efficient - including moving the sofa to allow for increased air flow of the heater and even helped us MOVE it right away. And it helped! He made several more suggestions, detailed what we could do ourselves and what his firm could do. He also discussed options that we might have considered but he recommended not to do because they wouldn't help much and would be expensive. Talked about state rebates, too. We are waiting for their proposal to do work. I would definitely work with this company again.
Description of Work: Assessment of heating systems in our 30 year old condo - a mishmash of multiple systems, working and non-working. Examioned electric baseboards, individual heat pumps and intake/output vents and remotes, electric fireplace, light fixtures, windows and patio doors, etc.

We are grateful to Ming, Mo, Aaron, Marco and Curt. They were prompt, diligent, friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and detailed. They showed up on time, and called if they thought they would be late. They worked very hard and thoroughly. They checked and double checked all their work, and assured all the tasks were complete. We are very pleased with the quality of their workmanship and detail to making sure the attic was properly treated and sealed. They also replaced all the duct work for the heating system, and also sealed the seams to make sure no heat would escape. We would highly recommend Revival Energy Group to anyone looking at ways to minimize and reduce heat loss in their homes.
Description of Work: We had Robert and Jim come in and do an energy audit on our 36 year old home. They were very thorough. The used a camera to detect where all the heat was escaping. They were here for 3 or more hours, and did a complete crawl space to attic examination. The camera showed heat escaping through all the recessed lights, as well, windows, doors, washer/dryer, skylights. outlets, etc. A few months later we had them perform many of the recommended tasks. They sealed all the recessed lights so no heat could escape, they caulked all the areas where heat was escaping in the entire house, they added extra insulation to the attic, they sealed for loss through the washer and dryer, they added insulation to the outlets, they sealed the doors, they caulked all areas around doors. They were very thorough in assuring the house was sealed properly.

it wouldThey were right on time, and very professional as they set up. They explained to me everything they would be doing and testing. When I had scheduled the appointment, the guy had explained that if I was able to get my current energy numbers for gas and elec by month, they could plug those in to their reports and give accurate savings numbers, so I had those ready for the inspectors. They spent about 3-4 hours performing all the testing. They measured how efficient our furnace was and made some very interesting recommendations (it's way too big for us). They also explained their philosophy on sealing a home, versus high end windows and I really appreciated all the explanation they gave. Some of it was technical, but it made sense to me. They also gave us a quote on what they would charge to seal the attic (our main source of inefficiency). It seemed very reasonable for the work they would do,and they also said that they use the same audit to show the customer that their work did improve the efficiency of the home. We're pretty handy and so we've decided to do most of the work ourselves.
Description of Work: It was an Angie's list big deal for a home energy audit. This is several tests to determine 1) air flow in your home and where the leaks are, 2) efficiency and balance of your heating/cooling system.

I cost me $89. They were very good and very professional. They were very thorough and I was very surprised by the depth of what they did for that amount. It was a real good special that they had going through you guys. I thought it was a helpful thing though I haven’t done anything through their recommendations but it has certainly enlightened me about some areas that I could improve around the house. The pricing was awesome because of the coupon that I bought on Angie’s List. I later on saw when they were running the same things that the price went up on that. I got an exceptional deal through Angie’s List. The quality of work was excellent. Two guys came in and one guy was doing all the stuff on the computer and the other guy was setting up everything to do the actual test. They worked pretty well as a team. Their responsiveness and professionalism was very good. I would recommend them.

Ben showed up promptly. His appearance and attitude were professional. He had all his equipment organized and went right to work. He inspected the whole house inside, all the appliances, HVAC, attics and crawlspace. The infra-red imaging It was obvious that he had a lot of experience in the HVAC & construction field. Never did he push to "upsell" us and was honest about our home's needed improvements. He confirmed what I suspected and explained some things that I didn't know. He showed me the report, the recommended improvements they could perform and at what costs would be associated. He didn't find anything "huge" that had to be done right now - explained what was done right when the house was built and what could have been done better. I would highly recommend Revival - particularly Ben - since he's the only one I met. Couldn't have felt more comfortable having someone in my home poking around. Was well worth it and I'll refer business to them. He collected his tools and politely thanked us and moved on to the next job. Jim - make sure you keep Ben around - he's worth every dollar you pay him! :-)

This was a case study in how contractors should perform but so often don't. The initial discussions about potential improvements were substantial. At no time did I feel pressured to accept one or another proposal; it was an evaluation process with final decisions clearly in my hands. The work crews (testing, caulking and ducting, insulation, retesting) were outstanding and worked quickly with lots of attention to protection of floors and keeping the house and carpets clean. The pressure test provided the basis for determining how much caulking to do, without making the house overly tight or causing negative pressure on the furnace. The original ducting was installed improperly without screws in some places, and the taping had pulled loose. All in all, the system was very leaky. With insulation in place and with new insulated ducting, the velocity of air from the furnace was noticeably greater and floors warmer. The final retest showed that the duct sealing and caulking had produced almost exactly the optimal number for tightness.
Description of Work: 1. Energy audit of the house, including pressure tests, infrared photography, and examination of ducting in the crawl space 2. Creation of Good, Better, Best proposals for fixes to reduce air leakage, insulate, etc. 3. Excellent sit-down discussion with experts about the study and what it revealed; frank advice about what NOT to do--things that are not cost-effective in our climate 4. Formal contract for selected work: caulking, floor insulation, new insulated ducting 5. Recheck after work was completed, including a full pressure test 6. Submission of state rebate paperwork

The process went very well. One of the best parts for me was the open and honest communication I experienced in working with Richard, Bob and Meng. All questions before and during the process were thoroughly answered. Meng and the team arrived on Friday morning as planned, promptly began their work and kept me informed as they proceeded. They were extremely careful about protecting my floors and cleaning up as they went along. In addition to the old duct removal and replacement, floor insulation was done the first day. At the end of the day Meng noticed some area's the insulation contractors had missed. He made sure they came and corrected those errors the following Monday. At that time Meng and team sealed the attic and put insulation around my water heater. As stated above, Richard returned later to test out and validate improvements in energy savings. That was followed by Bob's completion and submission of paperwork for my rebates. I waited to compete this review because I wanted time to experience the changes and compare energy bills for before and after comparisons. I have been able to raise my home temperatures to 68 degrees with no noticeable increase in my monthly heating bill. And although I still experience allergy symptoms they are greatly reduced from pervious years. All in all, I was genuinely impressed with the honesty, competence and thoroughness of the people at Revival Energy Group and would highly recommend them. And needless to say, I'm happy to live in a home that is far more comfortable!!!
Description of Work: My home was built in 1986. To save money I kept daytime temperatures at 64 degrees...chilly! I also suffer from allergies that are much worse when inside during the winter months. Richard, from Revival Energy, came and spent approximately two hours performing an energy evaluation...doing an audit of energy loss in my home, studying my energy usage for the past year, and determining three possible programs for improving energy usage in my home. Bob spent time by phone and in person descibing the three options...good, better and best...and helping me establish a payment plan. The original duct work was not insulated and there were several major leaks where heat was being lost underneath my home and through the attic. After careful consideration we determined it would be sightly more expeniive but advantageous to remove and replace the old ducts with new flex ducts with R-8 insulation. They also installed fiberglass floor batts to bring my floor insulation up to an R-30 rating. Additionally, they air sealed my attic floor using fireproof foam, caulking the top of all walls, and in electrical and plumbing penetrations. When the work was completed Richard returned to my home and performed a blower door and duct blaster "test out" to demonstrate the improvement in home energy retention. As a service to customers Revival Energy Group completes and submits all rebate paperwork. I am eligbible for $1175 in rebates.

The Revival Energy was great to work with. The energy audit they conducted was very extensive and through. The technology they used was impressive. The information provided from the energy audit allowed me to make informed decisions regarding which energy saving items would give me the best return for my investment in them. Following the energy audit I ended up having some air sealing, roof ventilation work, and a new gas furnace installed. The company was very response to all of my calls, concerns, and questions no matter the day or time. They put in extra hours to make sure I didn't go without heat for even one night when my new furnace was installed. All the workers who participated in the work (there were several) were always very polite, respectful, and helpful. They also, always made sure that everything was clean and in good order when they finished work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to others.

Revival Energy did a complete home energy audit (Angie's List Big Deal coupon) on my house. I have a 1960 single floor ranch, about 1700sq feet with a crawl space. I have a high-efficiency forced air gas furnace, central AC, and a tank-style electric water heater. The audit took about 3 hours. I was home when the audit was performed, and I followed the technican around and asked questions almost the entire time. The technican's name was Robert. He was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions and did not try to sell me unneeded products or services. The tests that were perfomed included putting a blower on the front door to depressurize the house. This allowed him to then measure how much air was being leaked from the ducts, around the windows, doors, ceiling and floor, and all of the other "penetrations". He measured all of this with a heat-gun camera gizmo. I walked around with him as he checked every wall and penetration in every room, so I could see where the air leaks were. After checking all of this, he measured the amount of air flowing from each duct with another tool. Every room was also measured, so he could plug the numbers into the computer to see if the room was getting the right amount of air flow. He went in the crawlspace and checked the furnace and the duct work. While he did check for leaks around all the doors and windows, he says they don't even bother testing the actual windows and doors on most houses. According to their research, the payback on buying new windows and doors is just way to long compared to amount of $ that would be saved in energy. My windows are all double-pane anyway, so I wasn't expecting there to be much I could do to recoup energy on them. After all the tests and measurements, then he asked alot of questions about the appliances and plugged all the data into a computer program. That took him about half an hour. Then we sat down and went over the big picture results from the computer modeling. The computer program said I could benefit from 3 main things: sealing and insulating the ducts, sealing all of the ceiling-to-wall joints plus the other penetrations, and insulating the subfloor (i.e. the crawlspace rafters). The computer program also gave me estimated for how much savings each of the improvement would return, based on gas and electric costs. Later in the day, they emailed me the full results of the audit in a 31 page report. And they provided me with line-item price quotes for doing the main energy saving items. It was a very thorough audit, and I appreciate knowing now where to focus my $ when I do system upgrades. Revival Energy did a good job at a reasonable price.

Robert and Ben were great. They explained everything as they performed the tests, and pointed out discrepancies in the furnace installation as they encountered them. Robert was very patient with all of my questions, both during the actual testing, and especially the following weeks after I received the test results. Using the infra-red camera, Robert showed me the surprising amount of air leakage during the testing. The test report was very comprehensive and a bit overwhelming at first, with the amount of information provided, but Robert answered all of my questions. I was very impressed with their thoroughness. I am having them do some of the energy saving improvements that they recommended.
