Every one of these guys was extremely professional. From the initial inspection to the finished job. They inspected and gave me three options (good; better; best) for how to proceed. I was able to adjust the options to fit my needs and budget. They arrived on time and finished the job in 1 day (their estimate was 2 days)! I also opted to add a new thermostat, which was installed and set up for me. I believe I received a good value for the investment and even recommended them to my son.

Our energy audit was done by Ben Fish. He was very professional, very knowledgeable, and very good at communicating all the complexities of our heating/cooling system and the results of his audit. It was extremely thorough. He didn't rush through the audit and was more than willing to answer my son's and my questions. The audit was done this afternoon and I already have a copy of the report and all the pictures he took showing air leakage in every room of our house. I was very impressed and will definitely use Reliant Energy to do any of the recommended work we decide to have done. I highly recommend the home performance energy audit, Mr. Fish, and Revival Energy. I'd also recommend them for a Super Service Award!

Those guys do not know their rears from their heads. They came out and did an energy audit and they gave me a recommendation on replacing my gas furnace with a smaller unit that we originally had. I contracted a different company to install the furnace and it is not adequate; it is too small. $5,000 later, it was a big mistake. I believe the cost was whatever they quoted, but it was huge mistake. I would not recommend them because they are inexperienced. If the service provided me with the information that I needed, the price would have been great, but it was $69 thrown away. They gave me incorrect information. I am very sour with the whole Deal. I am still very frustrated that it cost us a lot of money. They were responsive to my call. They came out and did the service. They were there on time and their professionalism is average.

Response from Revival Energy LLC
We felt terribly disappointed as a company reading this review. After looking over our data and correspondence with the customer we believe that we went above and beyond to give the level of service and information that was requested of us. They purchased a Comfort Assessment, not a full Energy Audit, yet the information we provided exceeded what we typically provide for a full Energy Audit. The assessment and the accompanying report used the most widely accepted method for proper HVAC sizing called Manual J Heat Loss and Gain Calculations. At the customer's request, we provided a separate copy of just the calculations in excel format. We offered to go over the report to answer any questions and to make sure the customer fully understood the information, offers that were largely ignored. After reading this review, we again reached out by phone to offer further help in understanding why their home is still not comfortable and to offer potential solutions. We were were hung up on. During the initial appointment, we explained to the customer that although he wanted a proposal on a new HVAC system because he was having comfort issues, a new HVAC system may not solve those problems. The Comfort Assessment is designed to diagnose the root causes of discomfort by focusing on three things: 1. How the home heats up. Which looks at the ducts of the home and the air leakage. 2. How the home holds heat. Which looks at insulation, air leakage, and window R values. 3. What heats the home. Which looks at size and efficiency of the heating system. As a Heating and Cooling Home Performance Contractor, our goal is to reduce the need for heat by improving the building envelope and then to size an appropriate system. This approach has the additional benefits of increased comfort and lower utility bills, allowing the envelope improvements to pay for themselves over time. Testing of the home in question showed problems with the building envelope. It had high air leakage, low attic ventilation, and levels of insulation below current code. We told the customer that to make the home more comfortable and efficient, those issues would need to be addressed first. If the customer had informed to us that he had no intention to address any of the envelope issues of his home and only wanted to change the furnace to a higher efficiency and reduce the size, we would have told him that would not result in a warm, comfortable home. We would have been happy to explain this, even if he told us he was going with a different contractor. The customer has since told us that the installing contractor recommended the same size units which we recommended. We believe that the installing contractor is ultimately responsible for the performance and proper function of the system installed. We have designed and installed hundreds of systems in the Portland/Vancouver area and analyzed over 1500 homes with our software. We have never been told that a system designed and installed by us was undersized. Even the best furnace with the highest efficiency cannot make a home truly comfortable when the home is leaky and poorly insulated. We are so confident in our system designs that we offer a 2 degree comfort guarantee, something no other contractor offers. We truly feel both insulted and hurt by the comments about our experience levels and accuracy levels and by their actions towards our company. They received far more service than they paid for, they ignored follow up email to make sure they understood the information presented, they took action contrary to our recommendations, and now they are unhappy with the result. We completely stand behind our work and the conclusions of our testing and analysis. We maintain that if your home is not heating or cooling satisfactorily with the sizes calculated, that you have either an installation issue or the envelope of the home should be brought up to code. I have nothing but praise for the quality of their work and of the people who work for them. They arrived on time, discussed with me all of the work. My house was built in the1960's and the initial project was to redo all of the insulation under the house. When we got started it was apparent that the duct work needed to be replaced and when we penciled out trying to fix the current problems and re wrap them it was little or no more to replace the duct. They did other work insulting the house. I don't think you could ask for more responsiveness and customer service. They will be my go to for any furnance/air conditioning needs in the future.
Description of Work: Recently they did an annual maintenance on both my furnace and air conditioner. In the past I had them do an energy audit and then replacement of duct work.

The provider came out and stated that I had asbestos poisoning and that legally he was required to leave my home. He stated that he was worried that I poisoning the inhabitants of my home and due to having a new furnace, it was shooting the stuff from the duct work into the home. The provider came back and gave me a monitor, but did not end up performing the work. After speaking with multiple other people, they stated that this was not the case. I did seek medical care to assure that I was not hurting myself. The provider stated that he had many woman break down due to the fear of poisoning themselves and their family. However, after speaking with my doctor, I found that I was fine. I felt as though this was used as a scare tactic, although the provider was very nice.

Response from Revival Energy LLC
Attention anyone reading this review: the member who wrote this review accused us of scare tactics concerning "asbestos poisoning," a phrase we do not use. We would not profit in any way from the actions of which we have been accused. Our main goal, always, is to educate and inform our clients as to the condition of their home. If you are ever unhappy with any of the services Revival Energy LLC provides, please call our office as soon as possible and speak to Jim Ballman about your concerns. Dear (removed member name), We at Revival Energy are truly sorry it has taken two years to for you to come forward about your feelings. I wish we had known about your concerns earlier. We would have addressed your concerns immediately. Revival Energy is an integrity-based company whose core purpose is to provide educational information about how to improve the comfort, health and efficiency of homes. Our company philosophy is opposed to scare tactics and to high pressure sales tactics. We don't like to be treated that way and we do not treat others that way, a fact which has been repeatedly stated in so many of our reviews. We pledge to never recommend a solution unless it solves a problem. A blower door test was part of the coupon offering you purchased from Angie’s List. The fine print includes a disclaimer that not all services can be performed in homes found to have asbestos, that work will stop and a full consultation will take place if asbestos is found. We do this in an effort to protect our clients as well as our building analysts. Blower door testing can cause asbestos fibers to become airborne which could potentially be harmful. It is true we do try to explain potential problems if they are found. It appears we could have done a much better job for you. Please accept our apology for this unfortunate situation. We will review our procedure with all of our building analysts. Respectfully, Jim Ballman Operations Manager

Ben F. arrived punctually at 9:00 today to do my home energy audit. He was very friendly and professional during the 2 hour assessment of how energy efficient my home is. He spoke to me throughout his audit about what he was finding and answered all of my questions. He inspected both of my crawl spaces, insulation, furnace, gas stove, water heater, walls and doors for air leakage, roof vents, and more. He also reviewed my energy bills. Ben found that my home is very energy efficient but he did find a gas leak in one of my gas stove burners and warned me to keep the gas turned off until I have it repaired. I never would have realized this without his assessment. He also found that my roof vents are not vented to the outside but into the crawl space which I need to have vented outside sometime to lengthen the life of my roof. I am extremely pleased with the energy audit. Ben did an excellent job and I highly recommend Revival to anyone who wants to know the status of their homes energy efficiency and what can be done to improve it. Thank you, Ben!!!

Overall, went fine. Nothing spectacular though. I was hoping for some clear ideas on what to help improve the draftiness of my home and nothing was really provided.

They came out and did what they were supposed to do. They sent me the pictures of the problems, but they sent me the pictures of somebody else’s house. I did get the pictures of my house, but it just that it kind of killed the whole experience. The reason for the pictures was because they were telling that there was leakage around all my doors and around the inside my house. My house is about six years old, but it is 5,200 square-feet; it is a big house and it had never been lived in before. I have been in here for almost three years now. What he was telling me, I had other people looked at it and say that they were over estimating everything. There were no additional charges on top of the $35 Big Deal. I would not recommend them because they do not explain the process really well. The guy did not talk to me very long and when they sent me the pictures to tell me what was wrong, it was the wrong house. The price was actually really cheap for the time he spent; he was there for a couple of hours. Where he to do the work, you could not afford it. What he wanted to do was just crazy. I do not know if what he did was accurate. They were out here within two weeks though and his punctuality was good.

Ben checked everything. It was a more thorough audit than I expected,so I was obviously extremely happy with my purchase. Our house, as old as it is, is in very good shape energywise. We have had a few things updated, including attic access, vinyl windows, upgrading exhaust fans in both baths and having them vent outside instead of in the attic, and a solid dryer venting system. Most of our problems were air leaks in joints of old airduct system, dirt in crawl space where visqueen has torn or worn out. And we need to seal the crawlspace ceiling. We have no moisture, mold or mildew. We have the options to replace our air duct system and add floor insulation in the crawlspace but I think we'll skip those for now. I don't care that much for the new flex duct system and much prefer keeping the existing rigid duct system we have and just sealing the joints. Seals should last for years. I highly recommend everyone get this audit performed on your residence. It is worth every penny. Ben who performed our audit is very professional, respectful, explains everything thoroughly, sends pages of info and infrared pictures of all windows and doors for you to peruse, and does not try to sell his company's services. He makes recommendations and you make all the final decisions on whether you want any improvements. You contact sales to schedule.
Description of Work: Provided a complete Home Energy Audit on our 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch home built in 1978. Checked the ventilation system, insulation, HVAC, water heater, attic and crawlspace, exhaust fans, all appliances. Checked for mold, mildew and leaks. Plus many other items.

I thought I had accepted the bid and sat all day on the 5th of Sept and no one showed. This was the date on the estimate that they said they could do the job. When originally I had called the Portland number to get the original person out to do an estimate they told me they don't schedule that I had to call the Vancouver Office to make the date. I called the Vancouver office the following Monday inquiring as to why they did not show. Jim said I had not responded to his email about the bid and had not sent them a down payment. I never received any email from him just from the estimate person which I had returned with ok and didn't say any thing about sending them a down payment. We got that settled and I sent them a signed copy of the estimate and approximately half of the bid as a down payment. We set the date for the 19th. They said they would be there at 8:30. Well, with one telephone call from the Portland office saying they were on their way, they arrived around 10:00 and told me they should be through about 2. It took them all day and Jim complained that the estimate of the use of the supplies was way off and that I was getting a deal because they had to use so much more than estimated. I am retired and so the scheduling was not a problem for me but I would suggest that You call the Vancouver Office and get all time and dates and finances squared away if you have to take time off from work. The work was good and the clean up was good but they definitely need to get their act together.
