Description of Work: I contacted the company about a stair project and they didn't return my call for over a week. Once I finally talked to someone they asked me to send pictures of my project and ideas, which I did. I could not get them to commit to a date to come look at the project and give me an estimate. I sent them a picture of exactly what I wanted and asked to set an appointment and they didn't respond for more than 10 days. In their response they gave me an estimate for the materials cost based on the picture. The estimate for materials was more than $2000 over the bid I got for labor and materials from another Angie's List A-rated company that a friend referred me to. | |I'm not sure how I would trust them to show up at my house to actually do any work if I couldn't even get them to show up to give me a bid.

I got a couple of quotes so I am not sure which company I am going to use. They were pretty quick to respond. I had a little difficulty actually meeting with him but once he came out he was very professional.

We had a great experience with Kyler and Portland Stair and Millwork. He came out once to see the jobs and get some information to work up an estimate - I could tell right away he knew what he was doing - he took measurements, made recommendations etc. After we said we were ready to go, he came out again to finalize details and he drew the new mantle on our walls so I could envision it better to make sure it would work in the space! Once I saw it, I knew my idea would work and I gave him the green light to buy materials. He showed up on time, worked hard and was very respectful of me and my two small children while on the job - I felt safe having him in my home. The family room fireplace required him to build a wood mantle and skirt around an existing brick fireplace and it turned out beautifully. In the living room, he demoed the old legs on our fireplace mantle and built new ones to match some other woodwork in our home. All of our woodwork was then painted white by a painting contractor and it all looks beautiful - I would call it perfect :)
Description of Work: We had two jobs done - first, we had a wooden mantle built around an existing all-brick fireplace in the family room. Then, we had the wooden mantle around the living room fireplace partially re-built to better suit our style.

We had an awesome first experience with Portland Stair and Millwork, so we decided to have Kyler come back and help us with some more projects in the house. We had already talked through the rough ideas and Kyler was able to provide us an estimate based on that, but to get the details just right, we had a second meeting with an architect/designer. The two of them collaborated beautifully and the proof is in my house! Kyler's workmanship is excellent - the new entrance to the living room went from blah to beautiful and the built-in bookcases look great on either side of the fireplace. Kyler suggested we move the electrical (which would have been covered by the bookcases) up to the tops of each bookcase so that we could plug in a lamp or other electrical device - then he built these nifty little boxes around the electrical boxes so it all looks pretty. The entrance to the dining room required lowering the existing entry height, so a small amount of drywall work, plus the trim work. Kyler had to remove, trim down and then replace tons of our existing baseboard moulding - he did a great job on this - you can't even tell the stuff was removed and reused. He is awesome :)
Description of Work: We had bookcases custom-built onto each side of our living room fireplace. This included moving electrical so outlets would be accessible on top of bookcases. We had the entrance to the dining room trimmed out with gorgeous wood moulding. This involved a small amount of drywall work as the entry height had to be lowered. We had the entrance to the living room demoed (it was a curved arch) and reconfigured into a standard square opening - we added three windows above the doorway and had the whole thing trimmed out in wood.

Kyler was very friendly and easy to get along with. He was very honest with everything and even pointed out some areas of concern he had with our design. He was on time every day and very productive. Kyler finished ahead of schedule and the final product was fantastic!
Description of Work: We had Portland Stair & Millwork install a new front door and re-case our interior doors and windows.
