The process started in March. I wanted to use them because they had done work for a neighbor. But it doesn't make sense just to go with somebody because you might be leaving money on the table. I liked him a lot. The problem is two of the quotes were almost identical. Northridge, even with multiple requests, they kept getting delayed to get out here. Even though there were a couple times that he said he couldn't make it when I saw his truck parked across the street at the neighbor where he had done work previously. The time came, I gave him an absolute deadline where I had to have the quote back because we were leaving on vacation and I wanted to have them all in hand while we were on vacation so I could review them and make a decision and award it while we were gone. And I never heard from him! And I got back and I got an email and it contained his quote and so on. There was no apology for it being late or anything but by then I had already awarded it. So he was very, very, very slow to respond. Almost like he wasn't really interested in the work. The price wasn't any better than anybody else's. In regards to using him again, I'm a little bit reticent because the quality of the work that he does is exceptional. If you go into our neighbor's bathrooms and such, the work he did was way, way, way above par. But getting in there to get the work done is way, way, way below par.

Nothing ever got started.

It went fantastic! We trust Darren and he inspires confidence. He's hard working and has excellent attention to detail. He has great ideas and suggestions. He even custom-made a bull nose piece for the new flooring for the landing at the top of our stairs. The manufacturer was 6 months out and rather than wait with the project unfinished all that time or accept their terrible match for a solution, he made us a custom one that looks better than we could have even hoped! He's amazing!

Working with Darren, we gutted the bath and closet areas, Added a 42”x40” shower in the expanded bath area; moved several walls to relocate closet to one end of room which resulted in back-to-back closets with adjacent bedroom. The project required updating existing and adding new plumbing; relocated electrical light fixtures, outlets and switches (and figuring out the riddle of existing electrical wiring); framed new walls, installed drywall and textured the entire area to match existing, and installed custom closets with mirrored doors. Outcome of project was better than imagined; very useable closets, tiled bath floor and shower, frameless shower door, new vanity and a normal toilet. Darren is particularly easy to work with, an outstanding craftsman and simply does what he says he will do. When the typical challenges and unforeseen circumstances arose, Darren was great in proposing cost-effective and timely solutions. I appreciated his “can-do” attitude.

He was very pleasant. He followed through on all his commitments. He was tidy and cleaned up thoroughly.
