Description of Work: I downloaded Windows 10 and it downloaded fine, but I could not open it to use it. Took it to Keene's and they found that the security software was not yet updated to work with 10. They removed the security software and installed a version that would work with 10 and everything works fine now. They did a great job and even helped me a second time with another problem, but didn't charge me. They are knowledgeable and professional.

We unfortunately obtained a bad virus on our PC (new ransom strain) which encrypted our PC data files. Called Keene who advised me they could recover data 90%+ of the time. The initial quote was for Keene to remove the viruses and recovery my data. Cost estimate was around $125, and 2 to 3 day turnaround. After surveying the situation they advised I needed a new hard drive. The end product I received back a week later was my old PC with a new hard drive, and my old hard drive handed to me. They did not recover any of my data and did not remove the virus from my old hard drive. So effectively I paid $271 for a new hard drive, which I could have purchased and installed myself. As a courtesy I was handed a white paper on the new "CryptoWall type" virus. Am not happy with this experience, will not go back to them and do not recommend them.

Terry's techs made a clone of my system, but detected a hardware issue. Initially I decided to have him find a Dell Optiplex 755 or equivalent running the same OS which was XP Pro Sp3. He ordered a computer running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit towards the tail end of the last week of July. At first it seemed like a good idea since I was told that the XP environment which I or they could download from MS would allow me to run most if not all of my older XP based s-ware. After researching the subject over the weekend, I read about too many failures in attempting to run older software regardless of this transitional feature that MS engineered into Windows 7 Pro and Ultima, but not their Home edition. After years of dealing with XP from it's release in late 2000 to the termination of support April 8, 2014, I'd learned to bond with the program and amassed a number of programs as so many other folks. I use a computer as a 'tool' ; I.E., correspondence, newsreader, basic board games and not for first person shooter action gaming etc., so XP serves my needs just fine without later generics for Direct X beyond #8 etc/ I have no interest in Windows 8 or much less anything else MS offers into the future. It's been my experience that they can launch programs with many 'bugs' leaving it up to the consumer to stress out concerning their fix over time. Anyway I decided to back out of the deal which caused Terry some stress needless to say concerning his reputation with his vendor. I understand fully, but couldn't justify spending $500 plus tax on a used Dell Optiplex running Windows 7x64 due to my perceiving future compatibility isssues with my older software. I took care of the cost for diagnosis and apologized for my vacillation. If and when my very old HP 760N running Windows XP Home with a Pentium 4... 1.8 ghz single core processor with 2 gigs of RAM and USB 1.1 quits then I'll deal with finally chucking my older software. At age 70 I can't get too enthused with purchasing another computer. The Dell Optiplex 755 was purchased on e-bay for $184 shipping included. I killed the computer by dinking around in the registry and so too possibly caused a hardware problem or a problem that looks like hardware to their diagnostic procedures. This was precipitated by another add-on; I.E., SDS (Software Distribution Service) which in the end caused grief with my system restore function. I suspect so, because they were no longer downloading any s-ware or updates thus confusing the native System Restore function in making a daily backup. A functional System Restore feature is an absolute necessity in a world rife with junk downloads and boxed software that doesn't work after loading. The computer lasted from late March 2014 to present. My bad! Terry is very well credentialed and his personnel are top notch. He runs a very tidy shop which to me is a reflection of his professionalism. Thanks Terry for your support and patience concerning my change of mind. My only suggestion to customers is to get a fixed amount specified for diagnosing a problem. So too, if the amount can be applied to the cost of repairs if one decides to have the work done post diagnosis. I would have curtailed the troubleshooting process earlier if I had known it was going cost well over $100 and simply had the unit recycled. Terry took care of the recycling issue for me gratis. Description of Work: Tested and diagnosed my Dell Optiplex 755 desktop running Windows XP Sp3. I was plagued with MS's SDS (Software Distribution Service) post termination of support April 8, 2014. It was still making a daily post in my System Restore window, but no System Restore points were ever generated on a 24 hours basis. Testing the function by creating system checkpoints failed to restore doing a manually selected system restore. I brought the computer to the shop hoping for resolution to this problem.

He is really good. he has done a really good job for me. I can call him any time and ask him questions and he doesn't ask like he is working for free. He'll go in there and go on my computer and fix things from his office. He is always bright and cheery and always helps me with what I ask. His receptionist Megan is really good too. He doesn't charge me for the minor quick fixes. I don't know how many times he has gone in there and fixed small things and not charged me. He does a good job and he is always available. It's worth going to him. You'll be happy, he knows what he is doing.

For the last few years I have had my home computer, printer, scanner, router, hub,... In fact every part of a computer system wired from one to another with network cables, and so forth. No Wi-Fi at all. Keep in mind that I have a desktop gaming computer with extreme graphics, and so forth. My wife has another computer with printer, etc in her office for her job. I finally had so many problems with things intermittently not working or the computer appearing to run extremely slow. So I bit the bullet and called Terry Keene of Keene Computers to come have a look at it. We made an appointment for two days and he was exactly on time. He looked the system over, and then explained what he thought was causing conflicts and some of the things that could be degrading the speed of my system. He recommended new hardware for the Hub and the router, setting up everything for Wi-Fi, and even re-setting my TV downstairs for internet so I could use Netflix. I checked with a few friends that were knowledgeable on computers and they mostly agreed with Terry's diagnosis. Si I called him back and we agreed on a date and went ahead. In a few days Terry showed up on time to the minute, so do the work. He not only installed new hardware, he explained what he was doing, why he was doing it, and what I could expect when it was done. It took him most of 1 day to do everything including the software for the Wi-Fi and resetting some of my games to use the Wi-Fi. But when he got done, everything worked. He walked me through each item and showed what and how the new equipment was working, provided a list of all user ID’s and passwords, and even had Netflix working well on my TV. He also told me to call him if something stopped working or if I had any problems. Three days later I had a small problem with one of my games accessing the internet and he came over that night and fixed it. I do recommend him to anyone, - either commercial or home system – that needs computer help! He is certified as a network engineer and he knows what he is doing.

I took my printer into Keene to be fixed, because my previous provider was unable to fix it. It was a hard drive fix, but Keene was able to solve the problem. At a later date I took my computer in as well, they verified that my hard drive had crashed, even though the previous provider said my computer was fine, and that there was plenty of space. When I took my computer to Keene, after taking a look, he advised that I purchase a new one. He helped me chooses which computer would be best for me, and transferred all the data from my old old computer to the new one, all which he was able to salvage. When I call him he is always there, or he calls me right back and he is always very helpful and pleasant. He is kind, not charging me for a question or a call.
Description of Work: He fixed my printer and helped me purchase a new computer.
