Everything went well untill I noticed that quite a few nails had gone thru the eves (it was inconsistant), when i asked Jimmy what happened he gave me some lame excuse and said that's the way it is, but would come back and fix it and i agreed to pay him....he has never fixed the problem, and I have not heard forom this company since March of 2009...I have called and emailed and contacted Angieslist, but to no avail... good price and that's it...now I worry that the waranty that I was given is only worth the paper it was printed on...oh well live and learn..just one more thing, I was picking up cigarette butts, in my yard, for months after because all of the help smoked and left there cig butts on the roof or in my lawn,
Description of Work: replaced my roof THIS IS A UPDATED REVIEW In reponse to the owner...Well as usual here is a sevice provider that has to blame the home owner for thier incompitance. Why would I want to have nails coming through the eves? oh yeah, because it looks so beautiful to see all those shinny nails and the paint peeling off around them...As I recall I wasn't EVER looking to put this new roof on by cutting coners and hoping to keep the price down...what I do recall is that I spent extra to have you guys "wrap" the edge of of the roof, to give it a even nicer look,so why would I not spend the extra to have you make the rest seemless without nails showing...what would have been nice is to expain to me as a home owner that there are going to be nails showing here and there and if you like we can make sure those don't show, I'm sure that I would have paid the extra, if there was any, because it would make sense to do it at the time I repaced the roof...I also find it interesting that they show the worst where YOU had repalced the plywood sheeting at the base of the eves. Now as for contacting you I tried several times, and now your saying that "YOU THOUGHT" I was contacting you regarding my "son-in-law" (he was a friend of my daughter, who we have not seen in about a year)...after so many times trying to get a hold of you, why didn't you just pick up the phone and call me back to see what it was that I wanted....or responed to my emails.. As for the nails and the cigarette butts,I don't know who was smoking at my house all I know is that I was picking up staples, nails and cigarette butts for quite a while. My point is, regardless of who you employ,if there certain dutys to perfom (like clean up) then you, as their employer, should make that happen. As I said before Jimmy looked at my eves and we addressed the issue and he was to come and fix the problem (for a price)...never heard from him again...here it is almost 2 years later, and I will say that the roof IS holding up very well, but some of the paint on the plywood that Jim painted before he put on the roof eves is peeling.

I apologize because somewhere this has been some HUGE misunderstandings. 1) The only calls that we have received from you were regarding your son-n-law working for us. We, unfortunately had to find an employee elsewhere do to the work that he was putting out. Other than the conversations regarding that, I have not had contact about the roof, except for right after and regarding that, we come to #2) Jim gave no lame excuse but explained to you that you had specifically asked for nails and not staples on ANY part of the roof. Yes, we did explain that we could make it different, but you would have to pay for the time and materials to either do it over or cover the underneath of the eaves. You did not tell me that was something you wanted to do. We said that we could cut the ends of the nails off, BUT would have to pull the warranty on that part of the roof. I do not remember a conversation coming from you regarding a choice you have made. Like I said, there may be a HUGE misunderstanding here and I hope that we can honor our warranty of there is ever a problem with the quality of work that we did out there. The eaves being done will have additional costs, but I am sure we can come to an agreement. I apologize if you have called regarding the roof and we have failed to realize that, but Jimmy only thought the calls regarded the young man's employment. Like I explained in our original comment back to you, we enjoyed working with you. As for the cigarette butts, your son-n-law did also work with us on this project of yours, he does smoke, as well. We have very strict guidelines about the guys waste on the job site and have a hard time thinking that this could have been them, but it will be addressed again. I hope that we can come to an agreement on this project and know that we have honored every warranty that has been given, so you have no worries there. This contractor offered the best price and was local so there was not a travel fee. Once the contract was signed, the drop box was delivered and work began the next day. Jimmy and his crew tore off two layers of old roofing, inspected the sheeting for water damage, and installed new felt, flashing, roof vents and 30-year architectural shingles. Jimmy kept me informed as work progressed so I know that they found a leak in the outer layer that had not yet penetrated the inner layer of old roofing. All sheeting was in good condition. They completed the job in 3.5 days and did a good clean-up job of the work site.
Description of Work: Two layer tear off and installation of new roof.

Jimmy came for an estimate and was prompt and curteous. The price was going to be within my budget, so I scheduled the job to be done. He arrived on the date between the hours Krystal said that he would and did the job quickly and cleaned up after he was finished. He also was kind to remove a torn screen on the second story that I couldn't reach for no charge. I would highly recommend him and will call him when we need our roof redone in a couple years.
Description of Work: He repaired roof shingles, cleaned our gutters, repaired boot cracks, cleaned our skylight, and helped to remove moss.

When I called for an estimate, they came out exactly when they said they would. They gave me the bid, and the work was actually less than the estimate. He did the work and his wife did the contracts and I enjoyed working with both of them.
Description of Work: They tore off a roof and installed a new one. UPDATE: I've attempted to contact this company after the fact for response to another bid I'd requested. There was also some repair to be completed which by the way was not part of the original bid but I would appreciate a reply. They did a good job but are not now calling me back so I've altered their RESPONSIVENESS GRADE to F. UPDATE #2, I've also deleted a prior comment that indicated their neatness after the completion of the job and I must now comment that there were numerous cigarette butts left on the property that I had to clean up. I really did not appreciate that. I did not alter the original following comments.

Called office, was told Jimmy would come out in late afternoon to give estimate. He was fairly punctual. I okayed work, he started right then and there and offered to look over whole roof to ensure all roof shingles would be secured. Also repaired leaky section where wood was rotting due to rain exposure, without my asking him to. Excellent, quick work.
Description of Work: Attach/replace shingles on roof that had blown off in high winds. Repaired leaky area at point where two roof lines met.

A water leak through a fire sprinkler head which had begun several months ago in our Vancouver office building. At the time I called on two different occasions, another local roofing company which we had used on a previous occasion, and though follow-up calls to schedule were promised, the calls were never returned. Very irritating. I studied Angie's List and found Jimmy Brown's company. We made it through the summer season and in a rainstorm yesterday, the leak again showed itself. I called Jimmy Brown's Roofing Company in the morning and Jimmy came out in the afternoon and found the problem within minutes. The next day he came back and did the repair.
Description of Work: Leak repair on metal roof - mainly putting things back in place after years of wind and rain.

Left message on phone. Was called back and time set for meeting. Jimmy was a no show, said he stuck with current job. Apologized and came next day. Found problem and indicated he would go to get materials but gave an estimate and said he would be back. Did not hear from Jimmy for three days, called and left message. He failed to return call timely, and with rain due, I called another contractor. New contractor fixed in one day. Received call from Jimmy while work in was in progress. I informed him he was too late.

I called multiple roof contractors to get a quote to work on a section of my flat roof (approx. 500 sq ft.) and only a few reply (in a timely manner). Jimmy got back to me immediately and had a quote to me within 72 hours. It was the lowest quote I received and the most attention I received from anyone else. He also let me do some of the work myself with him to cut some costs. He found the few leaks that were existing and laid out the roof quickly and efficiently - within 1 day, on a Saturday. He was clean and the work is great. I did have a small leak problem a few months later, but I called and he was out within 24 hours and left a great note apologizing and fixed the small problem for no charge. I would highly recommend (I already have) to anyone looking for any roofing work.
