WOW!! That is how I think of this company! I had gotten 4 other bids for the job. They fell in the middle of the quotes but it was their professionalism and how they talked to me about the job. That may sound silly but being a female I found I was spoken down to or treated like I did not understand things. They took my vision and made it a reality with a lot of cool things I had never thought of. They helped me with design choices, tolerated me when I wanted to change something and helped me understand why some of my choices were not the best. Their employees are pleasant, prompt, professional and funny. I got to know most of them thru the course of an 11 month remodel. Wonderful team that took great pride and attention to detail in their work. The subcontractors as well were professional and prompt. I happily have recommended them to my friends and they have done a huge remodel also. I have also used them for my business. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company..I had a previous terrible contractor experience..they showed me it could be a fun undertaking.

I had a 528 ft.² ADU built on my property. The quality was exceptional. Justin the owner of the company is honest and realistic upfront so I knew exactly to expect. His crew is very professional and highly qualified.

This team really knows how to work together! Everyone was courteous and professional. Our project manager Marcus took such great care of us, guiding us through, showing up everyday to check on the progress, answered all our questions and set us at ease with the entire process. He even took concern and care over things we would not have noticed immediately. Martti worked very closely with us in the planning phase fine tuning the project to fit into our budget with precision, as well as bringing creative ideas to the table. Also notable they were excellent with accommodating us with parts of the project we as homeowners decided to do on our own. Marcus always let us know what we should have done and when to fit into the mold of what else what happening. This was our very first time ever doing an extensive Reno and hiring a contractor. The whole team really made the experience seem so easy. The way it should be. Practically effortless.

Design Doctors was a real joy to work with. We changed a few things here and there and they were very accommodating. We would definitely use them again!

Complete gut and remodel of a poorly maintained mfg home, including interior and exterior. Down to the studs and back up, new roof, reinsulated and recovered siding, new wiring, new plumbing lines throughout, all laminate vinyl floors, interior insulation, new windows, doors and casework. It was a big job and Justin and his team did a great job inside of a tight deadline.

Excellent professionalism. Repaired unacceptable work performed by former contractor and completed the job. This job was a terrible mess with bad work previously performed that needed to be corrected. Included building a new garage to go with house. Unable to tell a difference between garage and house. Excellent work!

Short version: This company was an absolute pleasure to work with. I manage construction contracts for a living, making me a very picky and demanding client. From making time to visit and provide a quote on short notice, to scheduling the work around my travel needs, to the high quality of workmanship provided I couldn't have asked for a better contractor. Long version: The high number of home upgrades taking place in the greater Portland area results in busy contractors. I got quotes from a number of companies exploring different options to replace my failing fiberglass shower enclosure and all of them were (what I considered) unreasonably high. I called Design Doctors and was told that it would be 3+ weeks before they could come give a quote. Because I was on a timeline to complete the work before leaving the country for an extended trip, I asked if they could give me an 'order of magnitude' quote from pictures to reality check the other quotes I'd received. Two days later (on a Friday) I got a call that the owner could squeeze me in at the end of the day. They were the only quote that came in within the price range I considered reasonable. They moved quickly, setting an appointment for me to go pick out tile the following week. Once the tile was ordered, we set a date for construction. Unfortunately, there was an issue with shipping the tile to the country. Design Doctors communicated the issue to me promptly and gave me the option to select different tile or reschedule the work for later. I selected different tile, and we again scheduled the work. They showed up as planned, and followed the schedule that they provided to me. Demolition was completed quickly, and they took great pains to (1) contain the mess to the bathroom and (2) make sure the area was completely clean before they left that day. There was a minor surprise with some vent piping that needed to be moved and they worked with me to come up with the least cost / least disruption solution. They proceeded with the work until it was almost complete and then had to break: the tile again wasn't shipped correctly and the bullnose required to finish the edges was still in Italy. Instead, they completed all other work and made the shower usable until the tile arrived and they were able to finish that last piece; which they did in just a few hours.

Design Doctors came out to see the project and gave us an estimate. They gave us the option to upgrade the materials used. We accepted the estimate with the upgraded materials. The carpentry work was completed in one day. Painting was delayed about two weeks to allow the caulking to dry. The workmanship was excellent. We would definitely choose to work with Design Doctors again if the need arises.

Design Doctors built us a new tile shower in early 2017. After several months of usage, we noticed that the shower tile floor did not drain completely, leaving small puddles of waters near the floor drain opening. Justin was contacted and he got the problem promptly corrected by slightly lowering the drain opening, replacing and raising some of the tile near the drain opening. The shower now drains completely. I appreciate getting this problem corrected and commend Design Doctors for the prompt response and professional workmanship provided with the repair.

Justin and his Staff built a wonderful addition to our home that enhances it significantly. We needed the Addition built ASAP when my elderly parents moved in with us. Justin made the often very difficult and challenging experience of remodeling into one that was actually fun and tolerable, not an easy task. He engaged us as team members from the initial conceptual stage to picking out fixtures, tiles, etc to finishing details. He has assembled an amazing team of skilled artisans (special kudos to: Marcus - project manager, Jared - tile design/setter, Scott - finish carpenter). Justin has high standards and made sure that the job is done well, to the last detail. I've worked with several builders on a variety of projects so I've had some experience that I draw on. What I appreciated as a woman, was Justin's openness to my ideas and respect for my knowledge & preferences. His input into the design significantly improved our initial sketches. His background in Aging in Place design has made all the difference in how the space functions. He has created and built a beautiful, safe and easily usable design to live in. When the initial budget came in much higher than we felt we could afford, Justin worked with us to make it possible to do. We highly recommend Justin and his excellent team.

They did a great job.. They were more than cooperative. They and their subs were professional. We would hire them again in a heart beat. This is not the first time they have done a major job for us. We can give them an unconditional recommendation.

Justin and Shari were wonderful to work with. They were always quickly responsive whenever I had any questions or concerns. Shari did a great job helping me select my cabinets, tile and counters. Any time I had any concerns, no matter how small, they were immediately addressed. I am so grateful for their attention to detail. Katherine at Hayes Cabinets was also extremely helpful with ideas to help achieve all my hopes for a new kitchen. I will miss working with Justin and Shari! They were genuinely concerned about making my kitchen exactly what I wanted. I love it! I would definitely hire again!

Very well. This is repeat business because of great work done on my kitchen. They did not disappoint. They managed the countertop replacement as well as sinks and faucets. They listen and are very sensitive to my needs. I will definitely call them for future projects.

Everyone from Design Doctors has been fantastic! They walked me thru the whole process - from design, planning to completion. It was only 7 weeks from demolition to using my new kitchen. They were receptive to all my concerns. The guys were professional, personable and always cleaned up the site at the end of a workday. I really enjoyed working with them.

Design Doctor’s has redesign and updated almost every room in our house. I have had Justin help me remodel and redesign my house for the last few years, working towards our largest project building my vaulted ceiling great room and kitchen. Justin has transformed our house into the most beautiful retreat. Anyone who is doing a construction project will be ecstatic with Design Doctors. I have recommended Design Doctors to all my friends and not only have they used them but they have been as happy as I am with their final project.

Design Doctors (DD)came to start the drying process on short notice on Sunday of a holiday weekend. Hurrah! Their scheduling and organization was outstanding. I knew exactly who was coming and what they'd be doing and it happened just as scheduled. The project progressed quickly as a result. The workmen were congenial, but also very professional. The quality of the work was also outstanding. At every step of the process, I received communications about what would happen next. I will definitely hire them again when I need remodeling.

I am very pleased with this company's performance. I really appreciate their attention to the smallest details. They gave me good guidance on choices of materials and my kitchen looks beautiful. I asked them for a quote for another project right away after seeing the results, and I can't wait to see how they transform my bathrooms.

I am trying to find a way to articulate how happy we are to have worked with Design Doctors (DD). We were in the process of repatriating back to the US, moving to a new town, and this was our first major remodel. The following are highlights, but at the highest level I would just say that if you want to have confidence that you will land on excellence in outcomes, go with DD. 1.) Justin was extremely responsive and hands-on throughout - his greatest contribution was that he has great judgment about structural dynamics of houses and how to improve them and at the same time he has great taste and judgment with respect to interior design. He did a very good job of helping us avoid bad decisions and was able to get the best out of two married people who sometimes had opposing views. 2.) These guys are just plain professional. We knew from the beginning that they would not allow things to go wrong, and they wouldn't cut corners. Justin was very good about managing expectations and keeping us from frustration and disappointment. In my job we have a saying: "happiness is a function of expectations set" and DD really live by this. 3.) Harry, the lead on overall project management was present throughout the entire project and by the end we felt he was part of the family and we felt a sense of disappointment that he wasn't going to be a permanent part of our household. I think one of Design Doctors' biggest challenges is to conclude projects and move on... we could keep thinking of more and more things to do... 4.) Commitment to excellence - Scott, their genius of finishing work solved some very difficult problems created by the original builders of the house. There were things about the design that were just plain goofy and he was able to come up with innovative solutions that were just plain brilliant. I also note that I would come in and find him working on nights and weekends to stay on track... but also because he was just so committed to getting it right. Hard to put a price on that. 5.) Subs - this is frequently the make or break aspect of remodels and DD do not make tradeoffs. The commitment to excellence is consistent from the core DD team, but also through the subs as well. It is very clear they work so closely together that they are almost indistinguishable. 6.) Because this was our first remodel, we created a lot of change orders. Justin and team were extremely flexible and adaptable and still stayed right on time. 6.) DD probably isn't the cheapest and I wouldn't want them to be. We cared about quality and ensuring that our investment wouldn't fall apart after the work was completed. We didn't have time to micromanage. Justin has worked in this area so long that he knows all of the historical issues with builders in the area - that has enormous value and saves money in the long run. Businesses should be compensated for value created. Bottom line - the feeling at the end was similar to the end of a great book or movie. We felt bittersweet that it was over. How many times have you felt that after working with contractors? I am super critical (I manage all types of engineers), and can say it has never happened before. Finally, on the 4th of July we invited a bunch of the local neighbors to see the house and they were astounded at the transformation. We even met one of the previous owners (2 owners ago) and they couldn't believe how much more solid and of high quality the house seemed. Enough said I guess...

Design Doctors not only performed the work in a professional manner, they were also considerate while working inside the house and completed the projects well within our limited budget. I highly recommend them!

It went extremely well. The original estimate was for a three week project. It actually took four weeks, but they had to have asbestos removed from both bathroom floors so that set things back bit. Once we contacted Design Doctors, they got back to us promptly and we scheduled a meeting so they could determine the scope of the work. We received they plan and cost estimate within a week after this walk through. We had a number of questions and requested clarification of a few issues. All were resolved quickly. We had no difficulty arranging meetings with Nick and Tyler to select tile, floor coverings, the vanity, counter tops, fixtures, etc. Everything arrived on site as expected so there were no delays while awaiting receipt of materials. We had one small problem when the wrong tile was being installed on the wrong floor. As soon as we noticed, it was removed and the proper tile was immediately installed. Any time we had questions, Tyler was very quick to respond to our calls (evenings and weekend included). Design Doctors is a very high quality organization and we have nothing but praise for everyone we dealt with. We would certainly use them again and highly recommend them.

Before even beginning the job, Justin came to our home and picked us up, and then he drove us to the different businesses and helped us pick out the countertop, fixtures, and material for the backsplash. He also took care of the garbage disposal replacement. Great, great service and so tremendously helpful. Riggs did a very artful and beautiful job on the back splash. We even had him change a small part of the backsplash and he did it without any complaints. Appreciated that! Justin inspected the finished job to make sure it was done as it should be. It all looks so beautiful and we are very, very pleased with it.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. We gathered a few quotes and went with Design Doctor's (DDs) because the owner listened to what we wanted to have done and instead of telling us it wasn't possible, he told us it was possible and then made it happen. He guided us along the way as we chose flooring, tiles, paint, etc. which was helpful as it kept us on target with the budget and made the process a little less overwhelming. The kitchen looks amazing, the bathroom looks amazing and the resurfaced walls look amazing! A few things that really stand out were the tile work (bathroom floor/shower and kitchen backsplash), the wood work (cabinetry, baseboards, installation of banister for upstairs, door casing, etc.) and the overall management of the project. These guys have great attention to detail and it shows. The DDs crew were professional and courteous. Our questions (and we had a lot them) were answered quickly and any concerns we had (which were very few) were addressed right away. We will definitely use DDs again for future projects and recommend them to friends, family and coworkers. Thank you for the exceptional work you did on our house. We are now in love with it!

The project took a little longer than expected due to weather delays but the end result was outstanding. Nick was very helpful and patient with us on the selection of tile, plumbing fixtures, and the shower design. During the bid process, we changed the specs several times and Nick was very prompt in providing several updated bids. We are very pleased with the final result. The design, workmanship of the tile shower, and attention to detail was truly outstanding! Jared and his installation crew did a terrific job in designing and building the tile shower. The tile work and quartz countertops look great and all components were installed with care in a professional manner.

Laura was the contact person when I called Design Doctors. She was friendly and helpful. She was competent and professional throughout the entire process. This was a very small job, costing less than $800 total. I had called several roof contractors to get quotes. Most did not even return my call and one decided the job was not big enough to bid. Design Doctors arranged for a roofing contractor and a gutter contractor to do the repairs. When I had concerns about the roof repair, Laura had the roofing contractor return to take care of the issue. Laura gave me the same attention and excellant service as a much larger project. I will use Design Doctors when I remodel my kitchen and bathroom. I trust them.
