Cogent Construction Inc.

Had the roof put in in 2010. The first part of this year I ended up with leaks and ceiling damages in 3 of my rooms. When I noticed the first leak, I had a conversation with Mr. Wilfred Johnson (the owner of Cogent Construction.) Then I noticed 2 more leaks. He sent 2 workers out to my home, and I showed them the leaks. One worker went on top of the roof. His discovery was rusted nails and water under shingles. He said he replaced the rusted nails and if It leaks continues I would have to talk to Wilfred Johnson, the owner. I talked to Mr. Johnson and he told me that he thinks the roof failed due to the material (shingles) not his guys workmanship. Had 3 different contractors examine my roof and attic and they discovered black mold. Their conclusion was that the workmanship was at fault, When Cogent installed my roof, the vents were not blocked off which led to poor airflow/ ventilation in my attic which led to the mold. i have leaks contact the owner Wilfred Johnson.

June 20th - We contacted cogent on June 20th via the web info page June 23- received Email back from Lisa and contacted her by phone July 13th - Appointment scheduled to look at the job, Cogent called with Car trouble and asked to reschedule for the next day, the property is a distance away from our primary home so we were not able to meet the person there. We were told they could come out look at the house and send us a quote and we would not need to be there. August 12th still had heard nothing from Cogent about a quote so we sent an Email to Lisa asking when the quote would be ready. August 15th - Email response stating Lisa didn't know what happened she would look into it and get back to us. As of September 21 still not word from anyone, I wish if our job was to small for them to do they would have just said so in the first place instead of acting as though they would give us a quote. I prefer to use local small businesses rather then hire out to a larger corporate company. I understand construction is busy at this time and we expected to be lower on a priority list and gave ourselves all summer to work with a small local contractor. I would not recommend calling this contractor.

I was really impressed with this company. I walked in to research metal roofs. I spent over an hour with them getting not only excellent information, but tips for shopping around for metal roofs. There was no high pressure sales. I left with some confidence in looking for bids. Quite the opposite when I went to the Roof Doctor in Shelton to get information. They would not give any information about their products or how they are installed. He said he needed to come out to my place which I found very strange. You could see a high pressure sale coming from that idiot! I scheduled a quote from Cogent. They arrived promptly as scheduled. The estimator was great with answering the questions I had. When he left, there was no pressure at all to sign with them. Everything was very professional and upfront, which I appreciated. I ended up choosing them. They gained my trust with the professionalism they showed throughout this process. The 50 year warranty on the roof followed by lifetime installation warranty were major factors with my decision. The quote was in the ball park of other estimates. So I was all excited for the roof. Again they arrived promptly as scheduled. They arrived with a crew of four. They completed the roof in one day. And while I knew the roof would look beautiful, but it was more spectacular then I even imagined! It completely transformed the look of my house. It's been over a month since I had the roof installed and I still pause to admire the roof when I come home :) The only thing I was disappointed was everyone was telling me how loud the roof would be when it rained. Cogent explained that the new design of the metal is not like the older design so its much quieter. Well I've had torrential rains and hail....and much to my disappointment I couldn't hear it!! :) I like the sound of the rain and was very surprised. It was no louder then my original comp roof I had. I would strongly recommend Cogent to anyone installing a roof, whether it's metal or comp.

The work turned out to be very good. The bid was excellent and the workmanship was excellent. The time that he took to remove the old roof and put the new one was just a two and a half day turn around. It was a good work and I was very pleased with that. The price was very fair.
