During the maintenance, the technician broke the furnace so that it could not be turned on. He said the ignitor was rusted and when he took the metal brush to it, it just fell apart. Without the igniter in place, the furnace would not turn on. I asked him if he could get a replacement part for it. He said he would have to call his office. He made the call outside in his van. He told me that there is no part for the furnace because it was too old. He arranged to have a sales person come out to make a bid on a furnace replacement. Later that same day, a sale guy arrived to collect the data to bid on a new furnace. He stated that I was lucky the furnace broke since it was so old that it was probably causing me harm. I told him that I had CO2 detectors in the house to check for that sort of thing. He commented on many things, including the bad plumbing in the basement, asbestos tape on ducts, negative pressure near the gas water tank, that the thermostat was located next to the fireplace, and that the heat vents were 'oddly' positioned. The next day I did a Google search on the furnace and found the igniter part available from a local distributor. I called Greenwood and asked to speak to the service manager, Tammy. I asked Tammy about getting the part. She didn't appear interested in doing this and asked me if I got a bid from their salesman. I pressed on about how my furnace was working prior to the technician doing work on it and that Greenwood should make an effort to fix it. After a contentious conversation, she said she would see if she could locate the igniter part and call me back in an hour. She called back and said she found the last igniter available and that she was able to get a technician to come out and install the part that afternoon. I asked her the technician was skilled in working with these types of furnaces and she said yes. I wonder if they looked for the part the previous day, or not. I left work to meet the second technician at my house. He said that he has worked on many older furnaces and had more experience than the first technician that was there the day before, who broke the furnace. He proceeded to work. He then called me to the basement to tell me that the igniter was not broken. Replacing it would not get the furnace to start. I asked him what the problem was. He did not say, but instead told me how the furnace was and that the heat exchanger was cracked and that I was lucky the guy broke the furnace. Otherwise I may not wake up from sleep. He wrote up some notes and asked me to sign the paper. I asked him why I would sign anything. I am not an expert on furnaces. While he was there, the sales guy called him on the phone and asked to speak to me. The sales guy reiterated that I was lucky to have this happen, and that the first technician was not experienced with old furnaces. At this point, I had to state again, that the furnace was working just fine until the technician did something to break it. No one will tell me what was broken and I would like to know what can be done about this situation. The sales guy said that he would have the owner of Greenwood contact me the next day. I never heard from the owner. On his way out, the technician complained that my Xmas decorations covered my house address and that I should consider moving the garland. I would have liked to have had Greenwood own up to their mistakes and not lie. I spoke with 4 people at that company and not one was apologetic for breaking my furnace. Instead their attitude was arrogant in that they were doing me a favor. It was a very bad experience overall and I would not want anyone else to go through it. There is more to say if anyone is interested in contacting me directly about this company.
Description of Work: Greenwood was hired to perform routine maintenance on my gas furnace. There was no issue with the furnace. The furnace has been working the same as it always had since I have owned the house.

Response from Greenwood Heating and Home Services
Although the customer’s furnace was working when we arrived it was very old and fragile. We were requested to come out and perform a tune up. During the process of cleaning the burner assembly one of the parts fell into pieces in our technician’s hands due to its old age and wear. We sent out a technician with more experience on this type of older furnace and tried to fix it but found other bigger problems with the furnace besides the part that broke. These other issues were causing serious safety concerns. We did not charge the customer for any of this work and recommended replacing furnace. Not because of the broken part but because of serious safety problems with combustion portion of the furnace. The customer then had previously then had the furnace replaced by another company and is asking us to pay for the whole $5400. We had previously offered to give her $250 to cover the actual repair cost as a gesture of good faith. She said she would consider but never called back and we have tried on several occasions with no reply. I am very sorry she was left without heat and I am sorry for any confusion we may have contributed during the process. We meant well, we tried to fix it and we tried to satisfy her but asking us to pay for a new furnace is not reasonable. I would equate it to taking your 30-year old car with 300,000 miles to a mechanic for a tune up and when he attempts to open the door the handle falls off and then you ask him to pay for a new car.

We like Greenwood Heating. We've been using them for a few years for annual cleanings for our furnace. This particular visit was like the others= The technician was friendly, professional,on time, and called to let me know he was on his way. His work was very thorough. My reason for the B rating in 2 areas: Scheduling was over a month out. It's great that business is booming for them. The problem was that this same "We're booked solid and you'll have to wait" theme carried over when the technician left my house, and I had to call to ask that he come back. The fan on our furnace wouldn't turn off, and I was without heat. Even with the Service Plan we'd purchased, which is supposed to give us priority status, the receptionist/customer service rep showed a lack of concern/empathy. She literally said I may have to wait all day before someone could be back, even when I explained that I'd scheduled an early appointment initially because I had a full day planned and needed to get out the door. If Greenwood is so busy, they should hire more techs. Plain and simple. The tech did make it back to my house, and fixed the minor issue with the fan. He was very apologetic, managing to turn around the bad moments with the scheduler.

I first talked to Greenwood a year or two ago to get quotes on a new furnace and A/C system. They were great to work with then because they recommended against a whole new system, instead suggesting some far cheaper alternatives that ended up solving the problems for me at a fraction of the cost. Since then, I've switched all my HVAC maintenance to them and haven't been disappointed yet. They're always courteous, on time, and have reasonable prices.

Greenwood heating came out to do warranty work on a failed part. They were on time, explained the work they were doing, double-checked the work that they did and offered to come back out if we had any further issues. I've been happy with the professionalism of the technicians Greenwood sends out. In this case, the repair was to fix a part that had a factory recall on it, but for some reason we did not get informed of the recall, even though we are registered with Greenwood and have a prepaid maintenance contract. A little disappointing that, but as there was no cost to us in the end I will continue to use Greenwood Heating.

Greenwood worked with my budget and offered a price match to one of its competitors. I could not be happier with our furnace. It was replacing a 45 year old furnace. They cane out to inspect the furnace one month after the install and the inspector (Ed) was cery knowledgeable and friendly. This is the kind of company I like giving my business to.

I chose Greenwood based on a recommendation from a coworker, the bid they offered (which was the middle of the three that I received), the particular mix of features in the package, their history and accessibility, and Angie's List ratings. Over the course of this installation, I've interacted with quite a few Greenwood staff and techs in various capacities. Without exception, their approach to customer service is excellent. I did have a few issues with workmanship, but all have been resolved promptly and to my satisfaction. Pre-installation: the sales guy was very accommodating, but being relatively new to the company, was somewhat less knowledgeable than I'd have liked. He did make clear what he knew and didn't know, and provided everything I asked of him. He had some issues with followthrough at times, but since it was the onset of the heating season, I thought some slack was warranted. The important things got done, but vigilance on my part was required. Installation day: the team was very professional, efficient, and respectful. The gas and electrical work looked top-notch, and the chassis installation looked good. I wasn't crazy about them letting the new guy bang the PVC intake and exhaust vents into place without planning ahead to leave enough room to do so, especially since those connections cannot be redone without replacing furnace parts. They were carefully tested for leaks, and none are present at the moment. Post-installation: I was disappointed that the new upstairs duct included a pair of 90 degree elbows where a pair of 45 degree fittings would have worked; fewer sharp turns mean better airflow, and since it's a long run, that's important. I later called and requested the parts to correct that myself, and the fittings were given to me with no hassle. It was an easy DIY fix. My biggest concern was the return air plenum they built, which I discovered later had substantial holes and gaps in it. Since the furnace shares a basement room with an atmospheric-vented water heater, negative air pressure in that room is something you really want to avoid. When I discovered the problem a few days later, and the potentially dangerous backdraft from the water heater, a tech was dispatched immediately and the problem was corrected within hours. Subsequent service calls have been made to fix a condensate leak (corrected the first time, no further problems), and to re-test the static pressure (it was originally tested in a way that isn't appropriate for this particular model furnace). While the original workmanship issues were disappointing, the important thing to me is that Greenwood understands customer service and stands behind their work. In every case, my concerns have been addressed promptly and courteously, by knowledgeable staff who understood the issues. I have a fantastic new furnace that costs substantially less to run than the old one did, is correctly sized for my house (not oversized, as is commonly the case), and I have confidence that if any issue arises, Greenwood will take care of it promptly. I feel comfortable recommending them, and would certainly call them again.

Excellent! the original bid visit was very professional, non-pushy, and informative of my possible options. I was originally planning to seek 2-3 bids, but felt that with Greenwood's bid was competitive, once I deducted their Angie's list coupon for a furnace installation. That, along with the very positive reviews on Angie's list - and that they have been doing business for multiple decades - were the determining factors in selecting Greenwood. For the actual day of installation, the 2-person crew arrived right on schedule. They briefly walked me through what they would be doing for the day, and then immediately started to work. They worked diligently throughout the day - asked questions when they needed to - but otherwise, they were totally focused on getting the installation completed. At the end of the day, they then walked me through what they had done, and also gave me a training on the newly-installed thermostat. Lastly, they will also be coming out for a follow-up quality inspection, which occurs approx. 1 month after the initial installation. I think this is a great customer service benefit, and provides me with confidence that Greenwood wants to ensure the quality of their work.

Last winter Seattle suburbanites shivered through the worst ice storm ever recorded. We hoped our electricity would stay on, which it did, but our old furnace went out, never to fire again. The Greenwood company was kind enough to bring three big space heaters for us to use until the work could begin a few days later. The new furnace was installed as scheduled, and we even got an upgrade to a two-stage with no extra charge. There are only good things to write about Greenwood Heating & Air Conditioning, and I recommend them unhesitatingly.

They started on time each day, and when they would leave in the afternoon everything was cleaned up. The job was finished ahead of schedule and we were never inconvenienced and they kept us in the loop about everything they were doing. Justin even helped my mom bring in her groceried one afternoon...good guys.
Description of Work: Greenwood came out and Alan gave us a bid to replace 70 year-old duct work, install a new Lennox high-efficiency gas furnace and also remove and replace improperly venting for our new gas water heater. He was knowledgable, answered all of our questions and was just great -- we felt really comfortable making the decision to go with Greenwood. Justin and Nils arrived as scheduled to do the work. We are so impressed, and thankful, for the pride that they take in the work that they do! Because Justin knew that we are going to eventually finish the basement, he really looked at the set-up of the space and ran the ductwork so that it won't even show when the basement is finished! Thank you! Justin and Nils are great guys who know what they are doing and take pride in their work -- Greenwood is lucky to have them! The system works great, and we are so happy that we decided to go with a company who has been in business for a long time and knows what they are doing. thank you, Greenwood :)

I hired Greenwood Heating to install an A/C unit in my home. The bid process was easy (probably too easy, see below) and the salesman was knowledgeable. Was slightly less than their competitor. They were able to install it very fast, in only a couple of days. Unfortunately, it could not cool my house. This was due to two issues. First, was a problem with the install. I think it an anomaly for them and they were very responsive, while it took more time for me to be home while they fixed the issue, it did get fixed right away. The second problem was I think a flaw in the sales process. they estimated, sold and installed the unit without even looking at the duct work! The main reason the system did not do what it was intended to do (cool my house) was that the duct work needed serious work. I believe they should have at least checked! Maybe I could have included the repairs at the same time as the install. I shouldn't have to spend $5,000+ without knowing that it won't do what it was intended because of something else. I would say that the other company did not check the ducting during the bid process either. That part is VERY disappointing. Two weeks and another $3,000 of ducting repair and crawl space clean up, my A/C now works great. While I probably needed this done anyway, they should have let me know before they sold me the system!

I completed a request for an estimate through Home Depot. Within minutes, a rep from Greenwood called. We made an appointment. Brian came on time for the appointment. He inspected the old unit and related systems, calculated our needs and presented three options on his tablet. After he left, he e-mailed me the details. I got back to them with questions, which he answered clearly and promptly. After we decided to go with Greenwood and on the unit we wanted, the install was scheduled promptly in order to take advantage of a 24 month 0% offer on our Home Depot credit card. The day of the install, the installers came on time - very polite and neat. The install was completed in one day. Another tech had to to return to dismantle and haul away the old unit, which he did in a couple of hours. The following week, they called to schedule the inspection and system test. The inspector and tech arrived within the scheduled window. Inspection was good. Test was good. All personnel with whom we had contact were polite and professional in demeanor and appearance.
Description of Work: Requested a quote to replace our furnace in our crawl space. Our home is 1800 sq. ft. and only needed a 60-70,000 btu unit. Greenwood's was the cleanest and easiest to understand quote - one total all included price. There was an access issue to our crawl space. Two other companies indicated we would need to enlarge the opening for the 17" cabinets. Greenwood had specs on the same models in a 14" cabinet that fit without any additional work or expense. They and one other company said we needed a chimney liner which turned out to be true and was included in the estimate. Another company said other work was required by the city, which turned out not to be true. Greenwood's quote was the lowest for a base model by $1,000 and by about $800 on the Lenox dual stage variable speed we bought, after figuring in all items. The $4100 included the permit, new thermostat, taxes, 4" filter, chimney liner and removal of the 36 yr old furnace - total, no extras. Removal of the old furnace required a second visit to break it down since it was bigger than the opening. The installers were here on time. It took longer than expected because they pulled one installer to another job. Finished at 5:30 instead of 2 pm. Installers were great, explained new thermostat. Greenwood arranged the inspection to suit my schedule - it went quickly and perfectly. They came back to test the whole system. We have had it for a couple of weeks now. I can't hear the blower at all. I have to get right next to a vent to tell if it's on or not.We opted to pay the extra for the dual stage variable speed primarily for comfort, quiet, more even temperatures and some cost savings. We don't believe we would have recouped the additional cost of a high efficiency furnace. It was tempting to choose the basic single stage unit for $2500. But energy savings, comfort and quiet won out after figuring the difference per month over the life of the furnace.

After they were finished they made sure that everything was all cleaned up before leaving. The next day I received a call from a technician at Greenwood asking to schedule a quality inspection of my installation. He came out the next day and did a complete inspection of the furnace as well as the installation. During the inspection he found an elbow in the furnace that he thought should be replaced and ordered the part while at my home and scheduled another visit to install it. He also asked if I needed any questions answered about the operation of the furnace or programming the thermostat. I also received a call from my service technician Allen making sure that everything went well with my installation and to see if I had any questions. A couple of days later I received a call from Greenwood's office following up to make sure that I was happy with their service.I am extremely happy with my service from Greenwood. I have used them for many years to service several furnaces and have always gotten excellent service. This was the first time that I needed to replace a furnace and it was gratifying to see that the same level of professionalism and quality service was evident for a new installation as well. I highly recommend Greenwood to anyone looking for annual service, repairs or replacement. Also Allen is great!
Description of Work: We just had to have our furnace replaced as it wasn't running properly and not worth repairing given that it was over 15 years old and the cost of the repairs was fairly expensive. Alan our technician at Greenwood gave me several quotes on different efficiency furnaces for us to consider as well as air conditioning. After receiving their quotes I contacted our local warehouse store as they were running a special on the same brand of furnaces at the time. I was really surprised when I got the quote for the same exact furnaces we were considering as the warehouse price was several hundred dollars higher than the price quoted by Greenwood. I also had another furnace company look at the existing furnace and he confirmed that it needed to be replaced. I never got a quote from him.The installation crew from Greenwood showed up right on time for the installation. They had called first to let me know that they were on the way. They were very friendly and showed me what was wrong with the old furnace after it was pulled out and then explained what they were doing during the installation of the new furnace. We decided to forgo the air conditioner due to the cost and given the few days of the year that it would be used. During the installation they needed to put in an electrical shut off switch and also installed an outlet for me because they thought I would find it handy to have one in that area. After the installation was complete the installers went over everything I would need to know about my new furnace and then walked me through programming my new electronic thermostat. They were very thorough.

They were on time and cordial, but their prices are through the roof. They quoted me about $25,000 for the new system. After discussing the price breakdown with them, I learned that about $20,000 of that cost was labor! What they had to say (along with the other 2 companies that provided bids) was similar, but none of them actually measured the duct work that was to be installed, which does not seem very accurate for the estimate. They over estimate to ensure that they are going to make a profit.
Description of Work: They came and provided a quote for me to replace my heating and A/C system. They way my house was built requires that I have two separate furnaces that need replaced.

Greenwood Heating and Air Conditioning has been responsive in coming to service our furnace. They installed the furnace for the previous owners of the home but we have had many issues with it not working. The furnace is under warranty but the repairs still cost us. It has taken around a week to get parts before, it has been a frustrating process. I do not feel the furnace is very reliable.
Description of Work: I use Greenwood Heating and Air Conditioning for HVAC services.

Estimator came at the scheduled time and was very professional in making his presentation. He was thorough and built in a very high degree of trust. After the initial estimate, he called back to inform me that the company was making a very generous allowance on a particular model/unit. When all was said and done, they were selected based on a combination of price, reputation, and credibility. At the agreed upon time to do the installation, they arrived EXACTLY at th4e agreed time and performed their job in a most expedited manner. All was checked and cleaned up upon completion. All were highly professional and courteous. A job well done.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced an existing heat pump.
