Gentry Custom Remodel

It's a long story. We met Kevin Gent of Gentry Custom Remodel, at the Tacoma Home Show in 2018. Prior to contacting any contractors, we hired a designer to design our kitchen and spent several weeks researching contractors licenses, insurance, bonds and reviews before choosing which contractors to contact about estimates. Gentry was one of six contractors that we contacted and by far the best to work with. Kevin made an appointment within a week of our initial contact and came to our house spending quality time helping us finalize our kitchen design while taking initial measurements to provide us with a bid. A couple of days later, Kevin emailed 3-D designs of our kitchen remodel and this is where the story goes astray. We were supposed to get back to Kevin with questions or modifications to the design he emailed. Before we could review Kevin's plans, we had a medical emergency with an elderly parent that occupied our time for almost three months. In January 2019, we were able to finally review Kevin's 3-D design. We developed questions and made arrangements with Kevin for a phone call to discuss our questions and concerns with the design. Kevin made another appointment to come to our house and finalize measurements. Once again, he spent a considerable amount of quality time with us. As Kevin was leaving, he told us he would email us a bid in a couple of days. As we shut the door, we were feeling confident that all our research and hard work had paid off and we would finally be able to hire a kitchen contractor. But that was not going to happen. A week went by, no bid. Two weeks went by, no bid. The third week I emailed Kevin asking if he had sent the bid. No response. We began to worry because Kevin was always very responsive. Since they are a family owned company, we thought something might have happened to one of the family. We waited another week and sent a follow-up email. Again, no reply. On March 15, 2019, my husband received a telephone call from Kevin saying that he had sent us email containing a bid for cabinets only. It appears that the family has decided to call it quits in the construction business and they now only want to make custom cabinets. Kevin explained to my husband, and in the email, that he tried to make our job the last construction job for the company, but the job was too small and too costly to subcontract. So, here's the moral of this story. If you want a custom kitchen remodel by Gentry, forget it! They are out of the remodeling business. Oh, you can still have their beautiful custom cabinets (for a $$$), but now you'll have to find your own contractor to complete the job. After months of researching contractors and being told they are "too busy" or we would have to wait over a year to get on their calendar, we now have to start the contractor process all over again putting our kitchen remodel behind another year! Did Gentry do anything wrong? No, not really, unless you count building someone's hopes up only to be let down in a big way the wrong way to do business.

Fantastic attention to detail! We loved working with this father and son team to remodel our kitchen! Their knowledge of all aspects of home remodeling plus their skills in delivering beautiful results was both deep and wide! We are thrilled with the outcome of our remodel and have asked them to return for another room. Lastly and also important - fees for their services are very reasonable and they are generous in every way! We highly recommend Gentry Custom Remodeling!
