Father Nature Landscapes is a design, construction & maintenance company based in Pierce County and we have been in business since 2006. Our process begins with a visit to your property where we discuss what works, what doesn't and how you would like to use your land. We'll discuss the possibility of a design, quote a price on site making sure your goals are met and follow-up with a landscape design! During the design, we will create the yard of your dreams; then in the construction phase seek to provide amazing service, proactive project management and clear communication. Once the project is complete, we complete a final walk-through with you and will correct anything that doesn't meet agreed upon expectations. We're looking forward to creating the perfect outdoor living for you!

Chris and his crew were awesome! Chris was very friendly arrived on time and went over my needs during the bid. I am very ignorant to the world of landscaping and Chris was extremely patient with me and all my questions. We have a corner lot older home, we had some ugly shrubs, bushes, trees, plants, tree trunks in awkwardly placed areas. These things have probably been there for like 15 + years. I requested that they all be removed, and replaced with something low maintenance, as I don't have the time to be in a yard and playing with flowers, but I also wanted it to look nice. We also have a massive fig tree, that was a complete monster, and I wanted that either cut down or thinned out. We decided to thin it out in the end. Chris went over everything with me and explained everything. He was able to get the work done this same week, which to me was awesome! Chris and his crew arrived on time, we went over the details of the project again, and they started working right away. Everything looks amazing! So much more room, the new plants and mulch look soooo nice! I'm very pleased. And our monster fig tree looks amazing! I didn't think it could look that nice! The crew did an amazing job. I am definitely going to be using them again, as I have some more projects I want to do in the next few months.
Description of Work: Removing all shrubs and trees around my home. With the exception of a monstrosity of a fig tree we have, and we just needed that trimmed and thinned out. Adding low maintenance shrubs and plants and mulch.

We have a somewhat small front yard but planned to completely overhaul it. We started with a lawn w/a few plantings and a straight aggregate concrete walkway to our front porch. We changed it to an extended cedar deck off the porch, a privacy trellis w/vines, a winding pavestone walkway and overall mulch. Though there was a little bit of confusion on our initial meeting, they scrambled to make it happen regardless. After that, everything went very smoothly. A representative met with me on site to discuss our wants and needs for the yard, and he was good about making suggestions on plants and hardscape items that might work better. He took detailed measurements and provided me with a written proposal within a day or so. The proposal was detailed and broken down, so we were able to pick and choose and further discuss. They were very efficient in making adjustments at my request and finalizing the proposal. The crew that came out was very polite, professional, and efficient. Also, at my request, the lead representative came back out after completion to walk through the plantings and general maintenance for the plants as well as the deck, trellis, and pavestones. Overall, we were very pleased with the results. Note I did give them only a "B" on the pricing, but to be fair, I only had one other quote, and it was not precisely for the same work. I just think generally that landscaping is very expensive! The only other thing I would have liked to seen differently if I were to go through a major overhaul like this again would have been to see an actual sketch of what they planned to do. I did not ask for this, so I'm not sure if this is something they can provide on request or not. Again, we were very pleased with their professionalim, work ethic, and end result. We are planning to do our back yard with them next year, and I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We had our front yard completely overhauled. We started with grass w/a few young trees and a strip of mulch w/flowering shrubs. We changed our pathway from aggregate concrete to a winding pavestone path w/mulch all around along w/various plantings and small trees. We added a cedar deck and a small privacy trellis w/vines.

Chris and his crew are very professional and friendly, all the work was completed on the same day as promised, and the clean-up was very efficient. After 10 days of running the revised system we asked Chris to come back and make some further adjustments, and he did so without delay. We are more than satisfied with Father Nature's service and pricing, and would hire them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We hired Father Nature Landscaping do revise our sprinkler system that was installed a few years before (not by Father Nature), and never worked correctly. Chris came our and inspected/evaluated our system and quickly gave us his recommendation. We approved his estimate and he and his crew arrived on time on the day specified to do the work. They separated and rerouted our 3 zones into turf and beds only, added and adjusted heads where needed, adjusted nozzles and risers, and installed a 4th zone.

Excellent. Even though my jobs (this is my 2nd or 3rd time using them) are minuscule compared with the other jobs they do, I am treated with the utmost respect. They respond quickly, arrive punctually, do the job as requested (and sometimes a little more), and leave. Their prices are fair, and are always what they say they will be. I cannot praise them enough. I will continue using them and strongly recommend them.

Scheduling and walk through went very smoothly. For the final deliverable I received a hand drafted design, which was essentially a few printed digital photos with some hand sketched annotations. The annotations contained a few plant specifications, but nothing comprehensive and no material specifications. Also received an aggregated cost estimate to complete all the work, although I requested the estimate to be broken down to include provisions for phasing. Neither the design nor the cost estimate proved to be actionable for my project. You get what you pay for. Next time I'll hire a landscape designer first.

This was an Angie's list special for 6 man hours of clean up. The area involved was above a rockery that had dead plants, leaves, weeds, and some trimming of existing plants. Since the company is in Tacoma and I live in the north end of Seattle, I was told there would be a gas surcharge, which was agreeable. The crew arrived on time and immediately went to work. They completed the job in less time than had been stated so the surcharge was waived. They removed all of the debris and the area was left very neat.

Working with Chris to get an estimate was very easy. He asked specific questions about the projects we wanted to have done that gave me confidence that his estimate would be trustworthy. We provided pictures and measurements of the areas we wanted worked on. The crew showed up on time and left the work area very clean. We were very happy with the amount and quality of their work.

I called made appointment, he arrived on time. Had a discussion on my wishes and requirements. tossed around some ideas and then he went out and measured the yard. The Next day I received them plans via email and reviewed them requested some changes and add some items to estimates.Which I received a few days later. I have to say the estimates seemed high. But I had no intentions of having the work done right away was just putting a plan together. Needed to see what i can do myself and what I needed a professional to do, But the estimates seemed really high for the work I needed done.To be clear the service I purchased was simply the design the work for $99 which was about $150 less then any other offers I found
Description of Work: Provided a landscaping design for my home, came out did some measurements and talked about what I wanted to achieve. Then Sent me the Design and made adjustments and sent me estimates for the work required if they were to do the work for me.

The genlemen who performed the work were very efficient, professional and worked very quickly. We anticipated at least 2 weeks of disruptions and were very happy when they completed the project in half that time. We had all sorts of questions which were answered quickly and without any impatience or annoyance. The first choice of maple tree variety was not what we had in mind and it was quickly replaced. We have done several DIY projects on our own and knew the scope of this project was outside our expertise and endurance. Bravo, gentlemen! We are thrilled with our lovely new yard and have spent so much more leisure time outside, more than we have in the previous seven years total!
Description of Work: We replaced all foundation plantings, including new edging and bark covering for the planting beds. We also replaced a pin oak tree damaged by ice this winter with a maple tree for good shade and fall color. Three patios were installed in our back yard. The first area was in front of the large gate into the back yard. This area enabled us to easily open the gate and and protect the gate's construction. The second patio was the main focus for the project. The builder's basic stairs from the house were very steep and narrow. They were replaced with a larger stair area for safety as well as appearance. The patio measured at about 30 feet by 15 feet and involved removing and then reinstalling the heat pump for the home as well as the pavers. Three raised planting beds were also built. Each measured three feet wide by ten feet long by two feet high. They were designed to provide seating as well as gardening area. The third patio was built in the side yard between the garage area and the yard's storage shed. This ten foot by eight foot area connected with the paver walkway leading from the driveway along the side of the garage. The project was completed in seven working days with a minimum of mess and interruptions to our lives. The designer, Chris Scheer, included details in the design to accommodate our patio furniture and grill, as well as ways to retrofit to accommodate diminished physical abilities. He thought to add details we forgot, such as the bark covering and soil for the planters, as well as renting a porta-potty for the workers so they did not have to have access to the house. He was very patient with swapping out the first maple selected and with all of our questions.

The started and finished when they said they were going to. They were very polite and took into account my suggestions and what I wanted to have done. They did little extra things that they were not required to and that just really made them top notch. For example, they build a raised garden bed and asked if we were going to plant vegetable or flower plants then on the last day they went and purchased vegetables and planted them without being asked. They also moved my husbands boat onto the gravel even though they weren't asked because we had off handedly mentioned that we were going to move it. Both things were a really, nice unexpected surprises. We couldn't recommend them and more highly.
Description of Work: Father Nature did everything in our yard. We got sprinkler systems, grass, gravel for the parking area, flower beds, trees, ect. They basicly started from scratch with our yard.

I was given a Landscaping Assessment back at Christmas as a gift and Chris came out an worked out a landscaping plan for my house a few months ago. As a first time homeowner, landscaping around the whole house the way I wanted was a bit much to bite off all at the same time, and Chris was very patient and eager to work with me to break down the areas around the house into more economical and logical chunks. I finally decided to pull the trigger on the front entry of my house as the first chunk and Chris scheduled me in his first available slot which was the first week of August (at the time we were in early-mid June). While I was disappointed at the time that it would take a while for the work to get done, the timing ultimately was a product of my own indecision and Chris had a full schedule since he and his crew do quality work. The week of July 9th, Chris contacted me and let me know that he had a spot in his schedule that opened up and he wanted to pull my job up to July 18th. While I was extremely pleased that he could move the landscaping work up, I was concerned that I was going to be out of town during that period of time. Chris worked with me to get my payment information over the phone and made sure that I had everything I needed to be comfortable with the work they were going to do, and then set aside time to come out and walk me thru all of the landscaping work they did when it worked with my schedule. When I came home the night of July 19th, I was nothing but impressed with the look of my new entry way and the work Chris and his crew did. It has been a week and I still walk down the entry path and just smile at how awesome it looks. I'm very happy with the quality and responsiveness, and would recommend Father Nature to anyone.
Description of Work: Landscape Assessment & plan for the whole house (as part of an Angie's List deal). Complete landscaping of the entry area of my house including: installing a flagstone and gravel path, installing 39 new small shrubs, a tree and transporting an existing plant, deconstructing and rebuilding two retaining walls to better fit the space and terrace the yard, soil amendment and rejuvenation of the whole front entry landscape.

Another contractor was chosen for this job.
Description of Work: We had Cameron from Father Nature Landscaping come out to our home to bid on the project for which we already had plans drawn up. While he was punctual, he made one claim concerning the use of our existing patio as a foundation for our proposed new paver patio. He deferred to his employer, who is apparently one of only seven people in Washington certified to have an opinion on such things, and promised he would get back to us on that. He never did. When we did receive the bid, it contained a line item for every proposed expense, appearing to be quite professional. However, upon more careful review, he had built in labor costs into the materials for the project, and also had a line item for labor. He also proposed to charge me for every piece of equipment rental (no other contractor did), and a miscellaneous charge that referenced a honey bucket that would be needed at my job site. When I called him to discuss the bid, he admitted that the materials had a built-in labor component. But he defended the separate line item for labor, providing a ridiculous explanation that did not justify the padding of the estimate by thousands of dollars. As to the miscellaneous charge, he said he included it for unanticipated but needed things on the job, but he didn't provide any examples to defend this proposed charge, which was in the hundreds of dollars. The additional labor charge and miscellaneous charge took their bid from competitive to the highest of those considered. I was greatly disappointed by the apparent attempt to gouge me.

Response from Father Nature Landscapes
Hi Member, I would like for you to know we take our reviews on Angie's List very seriously and because of this I was surprised to read yours today. Your review seemed odd, given the fact you did not choose to hire us. Why then did you feel it was necessary to respond so negatively to us when we had no further interaction or a working relationship? We had a great interaction while I was on site, I believe your project fit our scope of services well and the final product, had you hired us, would have been great. I would like to respond to a few of your comments and grant clarification on some questions. The reason for the equipment rental fees is we do not own those pieces of equipment needed to complete the job. We are passing along the rental fees to you and rather than hide the costs somewhere in the proposal I line itemed them out for your ease of understanding what you are paying for. The general labor charge was to complete specific tasks on site in preparation for other activities to follow. This is why our soil price includes labor separately, as it is a separate function of the job. I felt we left on great terms, however your time line for installation did not mesh with our availability. Due to this fact we assumed this is why we were not chosen for your project. Please keep in mind, we provided a professional assessment of your property and installation proposal to you that was very detailed and prompt (within 2 days of our original meeting you had the proposal). We wish you the best on your project and hope it turns out like you have dreamed.
Only had the intial meeting. Never received an estimate, in spite of reminding.
Description of Work: I think this is probably an excellent landscaping company. I really enjoyed meeting with our estimator. I'm just adding a note that we've never received our bid or any follow up. Our project is pretty large, and Father's was a recommendation by a friend. So, we are disappointed as we'd hoped to use them. However, responsiveness matters doing a large job and so we are going to continue to look elsewhere. Updated: Finally received the bid. It was double the bids of others, though certainly detailed. Was surprised to find that though they said they did basically everything with in-house resources, they were passing on charges for all equipment rentals including a port-a-potty and unspecified items (? we don't mind folks using our first floor toilet to save $1400 for a honey pot). Not sure if they just have bigger upcharges or if they really have higher costs because they don't own any of their own equipment. We had thought anyone big like this would own their own tools of the trade. Note that our job doesn't require any special equipment, like cranes etc. Maybe a bob cat and a jack hammer, for half a day of demo. Also note that most to all of the demo work was optional on our job. There is an existing pad that could be removed, but doesn't have to be. New concrete was at about 150% or so above others. Can only assume that our job is just too "small," so they would only do it if at double rates. Relationships with other contractors are progressing well--we are very flexible and easy going as customers, and enjoying working towards improving our home. Will post other reviews as jobs are completed. Puzzled and a little disappointed about Father's as they were recommended, and we lost months while waiting for bids from Father's and a couple others who were slow/ uninterested. It's unfortunate they wasted our time and their own by coming out and acting as if it was a job they wanted rather than just telling us it wasn't of interest. But, we've moved on.

It was a rainy miserable day when they came out, but they got right to work. The back portion of my yard is on a slope so its not easy taking out the debris, but they did a great job. The ground was completely cleaned up, the logs nicely stacked. I was so pleased by the outcome!
Description of Work: This review is long overdue, but I wanted to report what a great job Chris and his team did. I bought a couple coupon deals to get some cleanup done in the back "wild" portion of my lot. I didn't realize when I bought the coupons that they are based in Tacoma, and Chris said he hadn't meant for the coupons to be open so far north (Woodinville), but he honored the coupons and came out to see what needed done. They took down some small trees and cleaned up some leftovers from previous tree work that we had done.
The work began on April 8 with the removal of our old patio and the sod we were replacing with gravel. I had requested the crew leave me some of the sod to be used to fill in some gaps elsewhere in the yard and they did so. The French drain was also done at this time. This part of the job went very smoothly. A frame and rebar were built the next day and the new patio was poured on April 10. When I came home from work that day I was underwhelmed. The patio was utilitarian in appearance. It was supposed to be exposed aggregate like the original, but in certain places there was little to no rock showing at all. There was a puddle of water in the center of the patio which indicated it wasn't sloped properly. There was an ugly space between the front of the step and the patio surface and the patio was a foot short of what it was supposed to be. This certainly wasn't the quality of the work we had seen before from this company. I planned to contact the owner the next morning. The owner came by our house the next day before I had a chance to call him. He told my wife he was unhappy with what he saw and that the work did not meet his standards and would be redone. The new patio was removed the next day. The owner asked us for patience as his crew would need to work us back into the schedule. This took a bit more time than I would have liked but the owner was responsive and always returned my calls or e-mails seeking updates. A new and much more substantial frame and rebar was built on May 3 and then we had to wait out a period of bad weather until the patio was poured on May 8. On May 12 a large crew came to replace the decorative pavers around the new patio, level out the salt and pepper gravel and clean up the work site. Moments after they left, I placed our patio furniture and BBQ and we able to start using our patio. The second patio is everything the first one wasn't: it is the right size, the finish is what we expected, it drains properly, and the step looks like it just grows from the patio. This is the quality of work I expected from Father Nature Landscape. Based on the owner's unprompted response to the first patio and the quality of the second, I would certainly hire this company again. I know my wife and I were impatient with the delay between the two jobs, but the final result is something we will enjoy for many years. We have had several days of heavy rain since the French drain was installed as an added part of the job. We have not had more standing water in that part of the lawn, so this was a great suggestion that has also had a positive result.
Description of Work: The exposed aggregate patio that came with our house had developed a crack that had spread from one end to the other and that was slowly widening each year, so we needed to replace this structure. There was also a concrete step from our family room to the patio that was only half the width of the sliding glass door. We eventually want to replace this door with French doors and wanted the step to be the width of the opening. We also wanted to have the new patio be about half again as wide as the original. We had lined the original patio with decorative concrete pavers. We have some extra ones and wanted to reuse all of the pavers to edge the new, larger patio as well. Further, we wanted to replace a small, isolated patch of grass adjacent to the patio with decorative salt and pepper gravel. We hired Father Nature Landscapes to do the work. The firm had done a small job repairing the floor of our garden shed a year earlier and we were very pleased with their professionalism and workmanship. While the job was getting underway, I noted to the owner that we had a very soggy patch of lawn near the patio. This area usually had standing water after a heavy rain. We don't have great soil in this neighborhood, but we don't experience standing water after a rain anywhere else on our lot. The owner noted a curtain drain for the house was near this soggy area and suggested a French drain system in this portion of the lawn tying into the curtain drain might do the trick in dealing with the standing water after heavy rain. His estimate for this work was very reasonable and I authorized this addition to the work to be done.

There were broken trees, and broken branches everywhere. It was pretty extensive. There is only one negative comment that I have to say about them. They cleared out leaves from my plant beds, and they took some of the plants with the leaves. Other than that they appeared to of done a lot of physical labor. The price was reasonable. The crew was professional. If I needed to I would utilize their service again.

They did a great job. I bought a Big Deal for 9 man hours. It was 3 guys for 3 hours and they got the job done in time. I would use them again.

We talked on the phone. His crew came down and did the work. We had a long to-do list and they got much further than I expected.
Description of Work: They fixed the deck and parts of the fence and weeded. It all looked much better when the crew was done. They did a beautiful job. I'm hiring them again.
