+ -1 moreHe wasted his time and our time. He got a copy of the plans in advance. He could have come out tot the job site and said "You know, I don't think I'm the right person for this job" probably would have rated him with an "A" for being honest. He could have emailed us saying the same thing. instead he pulls a number out of thin air 3 x that of the other contractors.
Description of Work: We are planning and addition to our home. We've been working with an Architect and now feel this is a good time to interview contractors. Searched Angie's list, BBB and got local references for general contractors. Koch reviewed our plans, walked through our house and said he's send us an estimate of what it will cost. We've had other GC's come through and each one provided us with an itemized estimate-all told us this estimates can go up or down depending on what detail we provide but they did the best with what info they were given: "Welll base do nthe info you gave us it will cost this much for roofing materials, This much to pour a concrete slab, this much for drywall, this much for framing etc etc). All bids are coming in at between $125 and $200 per SqFoot Minutes ago I get an email rom Dan Koch (paraphrasing): "Your addition will cost $350,000 depending on the finsih & fixtures you provide" . That's it. Doesn't even attempt to give an estimate like other contractors we interviewed. Very obvious he could not be bothered. Obviously he's such a good contractor that losing my business and a poor review on Angies list won't hurt his thriving construction business.

+ -1 moreHe wasted our time - and His. He got the contruction plans in advance- He could have said "I don't work that way" or "I'm not the guy for you" instead he just makes up a number 2x as high as any other with no itemized charges...As though he could not be bothered with us.

+ -1 moreThey built a new deck, expanded two bedrooms, rebuilt the entire roof, redid two bathrooms and redid most of the kitchen. We had used them before, so we were very comfortable only going out to check on the work once a month or so (yes, this is a contractor we are checking in with in person monthly, not daily). They are not cheap by any means, but they have great design capabilities and a superb attention to quality and details. They did a phenomenal job.

+ -1 moreI wish I had taken photos. I am writing this from the viewpoint of a neighbor across the street from the constrruction site. When my neighbors decided to remodel their house, they moved out and rented another house about a mile away. This Koch construction crew seemed to think that since my neighbors were gone, that they, the construction crew,.. owned the entire street. They parked their trucks and equipment anywhere and everywhere, including my driveway, double parking, TRIPLE parking in the street, never leaving room for us to get in or out...We asked to speak to someone in charge, but there would never be a response. In addition, there were huge safety hazards. This was a substantial project on a hillside lot and there were huge holes with no fencing around the property night or day. Building materials left laying around on the street, etc. It was a nightmare that went on for approximately ten months!
