The SBI rep came to the house, handed us his brochure, and we showed him the hatch to enter the attic space. He looked around there for about 20 minutes, then came down and told us that 1) we needed more insulation (we had figured would be the case), and 2) that our kitchen vent had become detached from it's roof outlet. We could engage their services (costs for services detailed in the brochure) to fix these issues. Those costs seemed a bit steep to us. So we passed on the services. Seemed to us that some insulation services might have given that inspection as a free estimate - then we would have gladly paid to have more insulation installed.

Great company. They contacted me immediately to schedule a time for the energy audit. I had to reschedule several times (to my chagrin) and they were gracious and accommodating. On the day of the energy audit, Paul arrived punctually. As he set up, he explained what to expect, and he double and triple checked to ensure we had a proper set up. We had a number of people working in the house, and he was careful to communicate with all of them as well. Paul made a microscopically detailed analysis of every air leak and insulation void, and gave great advice about how to address each one. Outstanding. Knowledgeable, detail-oriented field worker (Paul). I got lots of specific, actionable advice. Professional, thorough, pleasant to work with.

Paul was very professional Went into easy to understand details about how the house was built Showed me where minor improvements could be achieved ( he found nothing major ) Excellent value, inspector was knowledgeable and easy to work with.

They did okay. He came and walked through the whole house and pointed out areas that we could make more energy efficient and because of the carpeting were all out of the house at that time, we were able to caulking around all of the base boards and that seemed to help a bit. He just walked around the house and pointed out other areas that we could make more energy efficient and we had many of it. The price was worth the service. He actually helped us find a leak in our hot water tank before we have problems, so that was helpful. He was very detailed when he looked around the house.

What i appreciated was the professionalism and analytical approach without the common upsell that is so common with these type of services. My experience with Paul let me more inclined to seriously consider his recommendations and his company's future services.

Came to home on time. Off loaded his equipment. Explained what he would be doing. Connected false door with fan in place of front door. Did some measurements. Went through whole house taking thermal pictures, connected device to bathroom fans and took measurements. Crawled in attic, and took pictures. Crawled in crawl space and took pictures. Provide us with dozens of pictures, and explained where we were low on insulation, where we did not have protection on water pipes.It was very informative, and we will be taking corrective measures on our own to better insulate our home. Well worth it, if your home has never been done, and certain area feel unusually cold.

They were good. They came in and was efficient with my time. He knew what he was talking about. He made everything clear that he was doing. He gave me an estimate for work that they suggested, but there was no pressure.

After about 5 minutes walking around the house he did access the attic area to see what we had. Instead of really telling us what insulation value we currently have, he just starting pushing us to have all our current material removed and replaced by something from his firm. He even said our stuff was not legal. After he left I checked our material (which had been added some time ago after we purchased our home and when the Feds gave rebates for improving insulation). Took a sample of what we had to a different firm and was told our material was pretty standard and fine. We had replaced/upgraded windows on two sides of our house with pretty expensive new ones to improve our insulation, but we had not done a couple of other areas of our house. We expected some recommendation on those windows and on wall insulation. None given. Clearly, this whole process was their way of pushing one product. Bad experience, would not deal with them.

Paul arrived at the appointed time and set to work. The testing was all completed within about 2 hours, including Paul's explanation of the test results. He left me with a printed form showing all the numbers and results of the testing, and made no attempt, neither hard-sell nor soft-sell, to try to convince us to purchase other products or services.

They did a good job for me. He actually followed up with me to re-calibrate the exhaust fan to the specifications that are needed.

I didn't see a finished photo, but they replaced the damaged door and solved the problem.

I will use them for needed repairs. I have every confidence these folks are on top of it, based on my communications with management and the professionalism and expert anaylis and diagnosisof my situation, coherent communication of needed remedy their competent staff offered in plain english. I am impressed with their expertise and regret any bad review I gave them although in actuality I was available, but wasn't contacted. Since they did come out come out I have nothing but good fellings about their. competency. Unable to contact me -well, they dididn't seem to have a record of reciept, but I'm always here.

He was through and I believe gave me a good recomendation as to what I should do and when.when would be a good time to replace the insulation

It went very well when the tech arrived, he talked about what was going to happen, and didn't mind my asking questions about everything he was doing. He inspected the whole house, then installed the blower door and ran those tests. He kept telling me what each reading meant, and what he was looking for. It was quite helpful, i wish I had that many cool toys... :)

The inspection was quite thorough and informative. They also gave us an estimate to perform the needed work, but we wanted to hire someone closer-- SBI is in Tacoma and we are in Shoreline. We got estimates from two other companies; SBI was right in the middle, so I think their pricing is fair, and the proposed scope of work was exactly what the company we hired did, so their inspection and recommendations were right on the money. Just as a matter of course We prefer to deal with local companies and trades people, so while I would not hire SBI, I would gladlly recommend them to someone in the Tacoma area

Because of the more competitive bid, and the genuine energy audit we received, we went with this Company for the attic and crawl space insulation. The insulation was installed quickly and efficiently; the tech doing the work cleaned up after himself. The difference was immediately evident in the comfort of the house. We are toasty warm this year - rate this company 100%

The energy audit involved sealing the house then creating a slight vacuum inside to draw air in through any insulation leaks. Then we went around the house viewing hot/cold areas and leaking with the heat sensor. It was an interesting process and I learned of some unexpected heat loss areas. The auditor also went over some common insulation problems and fixes. The auditor was very informative. It was definitely worth the cost.

The whole experience was worthwhile. We are rennovating our house and learned where to concentrate our weather sealing efforts for the best effect. The Q&A following the visit was very helpful. The only downside was that no images were available for us to keep as a reference for the rennovation work we are performing. If we do this again, I would follow the Technician around with a voice recorder and some sort method to highlight the areas identified as "bad". I purchased this service as an alternate to renting an infra red camera myself. It was about one third the price of camera rental alone, SBI had all the necessary equipment and it was much easier than doing it myself.

Overall I was very pleased with the technicians performance and advice came in handy on lowering my electric bill.

They were prompt in returning phone call to schedule appointment. Showed up on time, very professional. He detected a few problem areas and went over list with me regarding improvements. This particular service is really about weatherproofing your home and noting areas where you can improve the insulation. Left a "to do" list for me to follow up with, very helpful.

This went very well. It was very easy to make the appointment, and the gentleman that came to do the inspection was thorough and very careful about not bringing the insulation from the attic down. He gave us a detailed analysis of all issues that he found, and we discussed the possibility of replacing the old insulation with new one, but did not come to a decission. Overall, we were very satisfied with the deal, and especially with the level of the service that we got from this vendor.

Went well. Sealed front door and placed blower fan in door to create suction. Showed me where there were significant air leaks around windows and doors. Inspected attic and crawl space and took photos. Discovered evidence of mice or rats. Received email estimate for work to be performed to seal and insulate ducts, insulate pipes and crawl space under floor and attic and seal passage way for rodents between attic and crawl space as well as cleaning rat droppings and replacing vapor barrier. Also estimated creating a floor in part of attic for some storage.

SBI did an energy audit as part of an Angie's list deal. They used a tool that measured heat loss. The person who did the audit did a good job. The person who did the audit did a good job of explaining what he found and what it meant in terms of insulation. He also did a visual inspection of my attic. He took pictures of my attic so that I could see what he had found. He indicated I needed new insulation and screens placed on soffits as birds had entered the attic and were nesting there. He also inspected my crawl space and said that the area was damp and that insulation was falling down. The cover over the entrance to the crawl space needed to be replaced and secured. The work was done in 2 phases, removal and replacement. Scheduling was fine. They needed to postpone one day , but let me know ahead of time. The installation workers however spoke very little English and communication was difficult. As far as the work, it appeared to be good although I have not noticed much difference in my heating bills. Clean up was fairly good, but I had to do some additional vacuuming around the access window and pick up outside the entrance to my crawl space. I discovered that the workers had missed some soffits and they returned to fix those. I was concerned that workers replaced some soffits by going up on the roof instead of using a ladder, presumably to save time.
