First of all, Scott knows everything about plants that work well in our region. He also grows much of his own plants. He is friendly, experienced, knowledgeable, and organized. He spent a lot of time with us to make sure we were on the same page. His final cost was very close to the estimate. I rated his pricing as a B because there is no A-/B+. The reason is not a ding but just to make aware that he runs a quality operation with quality plants and it wasn't a low budget job. We have gotten many compliments on the area he designed and landscaped. If I had a good budget to do more work in the yard, I would hire him again. I enjoyed working with him and enjoyed the results.
Description of Work: Complete landscape of parking strip with removal, new dirt, design, new plants, and labor.

I first met Scott at a local farmer's market, and one day I happened to notice on his display that he also did landscaping. Since I was soliciting bids for a fence system to contain my frisky new dog, I invited him to participate. Scott was by far the most engaged among all the contractors with the planning process, offering his advice on options I was considering and coming up with innovative new ideas that would serve my fairly narrow needs and budget. He submitted a detailed proposal and stuck to his original bid price, even though his obvious pride in his work and the finished product led him to go above and beyond with little extra touches not included in the original plans. He took his time and put a lot of thought into the work, patiently answering all of my questions along the way. He was perfectly in tune with my priorities: a sustainable, low-maintenance, largely edible, transparent, secure, and beautiful property boundary. A pretty tall order, to be sure! But Scott put all his talents to the task, and I now have the prettiest front yard for miles, and certainly the only one of its kind in the world. I have invited Scott to send people over to see his work anytime he wants. One thing I really appreciated was Scott's patience with my dog, who is friendly but still has a few issues to work through surrounding men, particularly men in hats. Although I mostly tried to keep myself and the dog out of Scott's way while he worked, we would often greet him when he arrived, and Scott was very patient with Charlie's excitable nature and my efforts to calm him. It is very easy to see that Scott has a genuine love for all living things, and it shows in his work. It is so nice, now that the project is finished, to have a secure front yard instead of always having to relegate Charlie to the back; to have actual stone steps instead of a piece of broken concrete at the beginning of the walkway; and to have large planter boxes in place of fence posts where I can easily plant vegetables without digging up part of the yard and trying to keep Charlie out of it. Never heard of using planter boxes as fence posts? It was my idea -- drive by sometime and see how Scott made it work!
Description of Work: Replaced turf grass on a slope with a low-maintenance rock and native plant garden. Installed a "woodland garden" around a tall fir tree that had heretofore only littered the area with pine cones, creating an eyesore and hampering grass growth. Installed a unique fence system, with gateway arbor, around the front yard. Replaced a broken portion of the cement walkway with stone steps.
