Woody's excavating is a great outfit and we have recommended them to a number of friends. We have hired them numerous times over the past three years, at every phase of building our home. Randy and Darryl did an excellent job every time: clearing the land, digging for the foundation and septic, trenching for water, power, and drainage lines, and putting the finishing touches on the drive way. Randy is easy to work with. He is honest and has earned our trust. He always works to do the right thing. The results are always excellent, exceeding our expectations. Finally, we have always been appreciative of his focus on safety.
Description of Work: Cleared forest, built a road, excavated for new home construction, excavated for septic. Trenched for and subsequent cover of water and power lines, foundation backfill, final grading of new construction, driveway and road repair.

Randy and Daryl were knowledgeable, hard working, and receptive to my questions and ideas. I asked They own their own equipment, including a dump truck, and I think that helps control cost. They are pretty much a two man crew. Randy runs the show in between hauling materials and Daryl runs one of their two track hoes and works his magic. The whole time they were here I never saw them slacking (I work from home and was able to see much of their progress). As far as cost, I feel both jobs were a good value. Randy was able to meet me half-way on a couple of points. He is a reasonable guy.
Description of Work: Randy (owner) helped me with clearing and preparing a gravel pad for a 28x36 pole barn garage. After construction was completed he came back (separate job) to insert drainage and re-do the driveway.

They did an incredible job. It took 2 days and involved > 15 dump truck loads of gravel and crushed rock as well as compacting.
Description of Work: Excavated and built driveway and large parking are around house to accommodate ingress/egress and parking for 38' 5th wheel trailer
Communication was great, Randy the owner was calling within hours of my initial contact and came to do an estimate the next day. The record setting rainfall delayed the process but in the end it turned out well. Darrell the mini-excavator operator was masterful in his command of that machine and everything went quickly and looked great.
Description of Work: Excavate driveway over taken by grass and silt build up, installed new gravel to cleaned area. Excavate lower lot to remove weeds and level surface. Clear off two overgrown raised bed planter boxes, disassemble and spread soil on excavated lower lot area. All the debris was hauled off in a dump truck.

He did a great job. He actually did more work than we had contracted to do and kept the price the same. Clean up was great. I didn't really compare price with anybody else.

The first visit to give us an estimate was approximately 15 minutes after calling him!! That was exceedingly prompt. We accepted the bid and said let's do it. Unfortunately there was a wee bit of communication problems. Communications were fixed and the job has been completed in a prompt and professional manner. Randy came back this morning to pick up the tractor. He took time to redo the areas that got washed out by our "monsoon" rains during the night. We were most grateful. He does good work.

I'm not sure what grades to give this guy as he was so different from my first time to my second one so it's an average for the 2 contacts. When I called him to deliver gravel for my driveway 2 years ago, he was very responsive.he even showed up to check it out prior to delivery. he promptly delivered 2 loads and helped me spread it. Great job. I would give him all A's for this time. So last year, 2013, when i called him again I was surprised at the lack of responsiveness. I called him for a delivery and he said he was on the road and needed to check his schedule and would call me back later on that day.. But I got no call back. I called him again a few days later and got the same story along with the promise to call me back that night. No call back. One more time I called him a few more days later and he said he didn't have his schedule but would call me back that night. When i reminded him that he promised to do so earlier, he said he would absolutely call me back this time and he had my number. But again there was no call back and I gave up. . This time would give him all F's.
Description of Work: I called him twice; in 2 consecutive years. - He delivered gravel for my driveway one year. - he never called me back for another delivery last year despite numerous calls to order.

Randy was absolutely fantastic. I can't believe that he spent 30 minutes on the phone with me walking me through water main options even though he knew that he wouldn't be receiving my business due to scheduling. He told me how much more cost effective this would be to trench by hand given my complex set of variables affecting the job. After realizing that I'm a DIY type of guy, he then proceeded to explain how I may save thousands of dollars by purchasing the 200psi poly water line from a plumbing supplier, and laying the water line down myself. He gave me the number for the utility locate service, and talked to me about the permitting process. He gave positive reviews for a trenchless boring company, whom I would assume is in some respects a competitor to an excavating company. Overall, I couldn't be happier that I had the chance to speak with him. Given the opportunity or need, I would definitely reach out to Woody's in the future.
Description of Work: Called Woody's to get an estimate on a 150' trench for a new water line. I spoke with Randy, who indicated that he was about 3 weeks out from a booking perspective. I'm bleeding water and money, and need someone sooner. Randy proceeded to provide detailed advice on options.

My experience with them was very good. They are timely. They came out and did a first initial work. It was good. It was done rather quickly. I was happy with the work. He was very accommodating for some last minute changes.

Bottom line, he does what you expect and will let you know if there are other problems that you were not aware of. He is also dependable and on time. (Which is hard to find when having this kind of work done.) I would Recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Randy and his crew cleaned up branches (from large trees that were taken down) and stumps all over our property. He pulled 2 large stumps in the front yard and ground multiple stumps in our drain field. We needed top soil brought in to be ready for hydro seed and whole yard to be scraped of over growth. (est about 10,000 sft of yard space.) We also had him bring in new gravel for driveway and spread that out evenly. They completed the work in 3 days. (We have decided to add a couple of things and he will be taking care of that this week). Every time he came out, he and his crew were on time. We paid what was quoted in the estimate. He also found a drain pipe from our gutter was broken out in the yard. He fixed it and put on a new pipe. Charged me just for the pipe and a small amount for the labor. We also had several medium sized rocks that were great for landscaping along our front walk. He moved those with his equipment with no extra hassle.

We almost used him but we did not use him. I would recommend him. He was my choice but I got overruled by my husband and my neighbor. He was just slightly more than the lowest bid so they just went with the lowest bidder. His price was competitive. He was responsive. He had suggestions. He had good reviews on Angie's List. He had references. He knew what he was doing. He had the right equipment. The reason we called him was the Angie's List.

Overall, it was a great experience. Randy and his crew took 3 days to complete the job and it looks fantastic. He had great ideas to make the curb appeal of the wall the best it could be and suggested a step down tier in one area at no extra charge. Pricing was the best out of 5 other companies called. (He actually beat a better bid when I told him his was the 2nd best bid, but that I would rather work with him.) I will definitely use him again if needed.
Description of Work: Installed back yard basalt rockery wall 12'x 17' and 18" differential in height to create a flat form for a storage shed. Installing 1.5cb yard crushed rock and compact the area. Installed front yard basalt rockery wall 54’ long and 42” high. Installed 6cb. yards 3-ways topsoil to level the front yard. Relocated a crape myrtle that was in the back yard leveling area. The difficulty lay in getting the electrician's schedule to match Randy's. But Randy kept contact with the electrician until all schedules matched without inconveniencing my own work schedule. His professionalism was outstanding and highly appreciated. Unfortunately, this did extend the time period to include a weekend before the backfill could occur as the inspector was late, but this was a minor inconvenience compared to the new gravel driveway I received in the end. I definitely plan on having Woody's Excavating do any future work I need to be completed.

It went great...better than expected! Randy came to give me an estimate for removing a large pile of wood, blackberry debris, etc. and a rotting woodshed. There was no access route other than driving over our septic drainfield which was a problem. Randy reviewed the drainfield report, marked all the critical areas with spraypaint and proceeded to make a new access road along the side of our property - something I hadn't even considered. He removed the pile, woodshed, multiple stumps, spread new topsoil, and leveled the whole thing. I was totally impressed and very satisfied with the result. .

It can be a challenge to organize 5 households when splitting the cost of road maintenance. Randy immediately understood and gave me two separate invoices, one for the road and one for our separate driveway. When I called Randy the first time he was very accommodating and agreed to come give an estimate. The big issue I have with contractors is if you can't be there when you say you're going to be...then call!!! Randy called and let me know when he was going to be there and then called again to let me know when he was 15-30 minutes out. Randy and his crew were always receptive to suggestions or questions. Even when we determined that we needed to add an extra drainage ditch and pipe, he helped a neighbor install it. He stated that the job would take two days and it did. Randy gave us everything we requested and stated that if anything wasn't right or needed adjusting to let him know and he would come back out at no cost to address the issue.
Description of Work: Randy at Woody's Excavating was very personable, prompt and professional. The road needed to be scraped and pot-holes filled in and then gravel laid down. Randy recommended 1 1/4- gravel which has been perfect because it has compacted very nicely. In our driveway he cleaned out the ditches and cleaned the area where the water drainage piping was plugged. He then created a couple of water trays (think inverted speed bumps) that allow the water to wick it's way to the drainage ditch rather than wash our road away.

Randy gave me a bid, and said when he could do the job. True to his word, he showed up the day before with supplies and work began promptly the next morning with help. They worked hard the entire day and by 5:00 pm were finished with the 133 foot French drain. The drain was not as simple and straight forward as hoped due to burried debris and deep muck but Randy was prepared. Because he knows his business and was prepared, there was no time loss and minimal additional cost. What a great guy! We have another project in the works which will include some rock work and we will definitely be calling Woodys again to have Randy do the work.

Communication with Randy was excellent form the start. I sent an e-mail and got a call back within a couple of days. In fact, when I hadn't called back after the first time (Randy had left a message), he called me again, which was great. A visit to discuss the job and get an estimate happened that same week. Randy's estimate was very reasonable, so we went ahead an agreed to get the job done the next week. The tractor was delivered a couple of days earlier, and parked in a way that did not get in the way, just as requested. When the day came, everything started very early, and ended early as well (initially it was estimated that it would take the whole day, but it only took till early afternoon). No extra charges, and no surprises of any kind. Also, the gravel delivered was just as Randy described it (color and size), and has started compacting very nicely. All in all it was a great job from first communication to completion. Randy made things very simple. I highly recommended Woodys for this type of job, and we'll definitely call them for future re-surfacing of our driveway, as well as for similar jobs.

They bid and then installed large landscaping bins. Found great used concrete blocks that blended into landscape. They were very exact in the placement. Laid gravel around. They then cut/thinned about an acre of trees and pulled them up by the roots to create a shade garden. On time, on budget and great cleanup.
