We recently hired Simon's Construction Service/SCS Contracting to paint the exterior of our house. We have dealt with Simon Way and his workers before and knew we could count on getting a reasonable bid and the best workers. The painting job went seamlessly, thanks in large part to painter Dave Robin (such a good worker!). They scraped and sanded and primed and painted (cleaning up as they went ? much appreciated). The final painting made our house look its best and I am sure will last a long time. Thanks again, Simon, for a job well done. Also, Simon assisted us in getting a bid on some updated attic insulation we needed, and that will help us keep more of an even temp in our house (Simon?s sources are always good ones).
Description of Work: Painted exterior of house and put in added attic insulation.

Always a pleasure to work for you both! Thank you - Simon
It went very well. SCS Contracting used their judgement on what was needed and the best way to repair the house. They were in excellent communication with me throughout the process. Each additional cost (from what we originally thought) was asked before it was undertaken. The final product was very impressive.
Description of Work: Complete re-model of a small rental house. The house had been vandalized so everything needed to be done. Walls repaired, new doors and fixtures, new cabinets, flooring, new electrical system, plumbing, painting, and trash removal. A new roof was added as well. All materials look very nice and the contractor took extra effort to buy products that were on sale.

The "Big deal" included contractor drawings, which was one of the main reasons I went with him. I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated. I've been more than patient with his continued "misunderstandings" on what it was that I wanted and the length of time it has taken (purchased on 11/23/14). He read my first review (this is the edited version) and put a response on his "side" that was extremely upsetting. Here is his response and my response in BOLD: Thank you for letting us know how you feel. Please remember we took no money from you for any of this. Here's my side of the story: Originally you paid $49 to Angie's list (not to me) for "The Big Deal" for a kitchen remodel. (It was for a BATHROOM remodel!) (I can refund that). Upon arriving at your house and meeting you and your husband, in conversation you said you were more interested in several other remodel items, ( I did tell him of other jobs in conversation as he was there for the bathroom remodel (just moved into my home and we are remodeling etc. many areas). I told him several times that he was there for the bathroom as I wanted to make sure that there were no misunderstandings. Again I got the "big deal" in order to get the drawings as this was something offered not by other deals. A drawing obviously would not be included on any other remodeling jobs we may have agreed to in addition to the bathroom). including basement windows and exterior walk up - and also an enlarged basement bathroom. I told you this might not be straightforward and we wouldn't have the computerized drawings (that easily are accomplished by our kitchen cabinet company). (He did say he could get me drawings of the bathroom but it wouldn't be the same as a kitchen remodel. Why isn't this clear on Angie's list??) You said the priority was the exterior walk up several times. (HMMM... I did say I wanted it done as we we are remodeling and moving master bedroom to basement, hence the need for bathroom expansion! Again, I made it VERY clear his priority was to the bathroom. I know I made it clear as it was a fear of mine that he would only do the basement easement and forget about the bathroom and drawings. This fear was due to the fact that he did not spend much time on reviewing the existing bathroom, and did not even take measurements!) My concrete subcontractor and I had at least four visits (He and the subcontractor came out one time, and he himself came out two additional times.....) to your house discussing the scope and location of the work, and you changed it at least twice, (the second time he came out was to review again the easement windows and door area and to take measurements as he didn't previously.... ) including one place where it would have been impossible to get our digging machines in. (I told him about two areas that the basement door could go... one I would like more than the other but not knowing if possible... I am not a contractor so how would I know that machines would or would not fit? FYI I have received from 2 other businesses an estimate to do the door no problems. I did change what we would do for the easement job as he told me that it could not be done where I wanted it so I had to change the windows that would have been replaced etc.to help be conducive to the limitations). The drawings of the walk up were not completed because there are still questions about the location and plumbing pipes hidden in the ground etc. (Huh? Thought it couldn't be done??? Also, I gave him $15.00 to have the lines spray painted) You had begun doing some of the demolition work yourself on the inside of the house which caused us some concern as to how well we could together. (WHAT? The demolition was removal of drywall in a basement room due to a leak!! This had NOTHING to do with the work he would do! ALSO I did ask about what there was that we could do to help with the cost of both jobs, including possibly digging the dirt, and he did not mention that it would be a problem). We gave you two bids on two versions of the job, with the discount, and also gave an estimate on the enlarged bathroom. ( Yes, the first estimate, which did include the basement door???? AFTER he said that it could not be done... so I pointed it out and that is why another estimate was done that was wrong as well!! This is after repeating to him several times as he didn't seem to get it! How hard is it... 4 total easement windows to be replaced??? When he came to the house I had to go over again what it was that was needed to be done in the bathroom, it was then that he actually took measurements for the bathroom!! The bathroom estimate included things like new toilet and movement...which the original was staying and not being moved and a new door, which I told him I wanted to use the existing door so all doors would match...and to save money. This was only a few issues i had with this estimate. ALSO, a drawing was not given. After asking where the drawing was he told me that he could draw something up but the kitchen remodels is where he gives the drawing. This was where I felt I had been more than patient and this was more hassle then I wanted to deal with, can't imagine him actually doing the work and what issues would arise!!! FYI all these conversations can be backed up with not only my husband but my 21 year old daughter as they were there as well). Cordially, and sincerely wishing you all the best, Simon Estimated cost: 24000.0

Simon Way, the general contractor, was great to work with. He kept me informed of what needed to be done throughout the project and hired sub-contractors (electrician and plumbers) who did a wonderful job. They just came in, did what was needed and left. They didn't leave a big mess for me to clean up either. The whole project was pretty much handled by Fred Stevens, the finish carpenter. I can't say enough good things about Fred, except that he knows what he's doing, is a perfectionist with his work and a real craftsman. All the people I came into contact with were very pleasant and professional, and I highly recommend SCS Contracting. The work went very smoothly considering several problems they encountered: the wrong type of sub-floor material had been installed, lights in the bathroom weren't a suitable type, trim around kitchen fluorescent light box needed to be made, new doors and frames to replace existing ones were a slightly different size than the cut out space available, plumbing and faucet in one room in the garage present a challenge to use existing materials. There was a lot of work involved with both the remodeling and completing the new construction work that was never finished. The project took longer than any of us anticipated but the end result is outstanding.
Description of Work: I purchased the $49 remodel consultation from Simon Way (SCS Contracting), and hired him for remodeling in the bathroom, living room, bedroom and 2 rooms in garage, 1) installed new sub-floor, vinyl flooring, carpeting, floor molding 2) plumbed sinks, shower 3) replaced shower 4) hung bathroom cabinet 5) new sheet rock, taped/textured 6) changed/installed ceiling lights 7) installed interior doors, trim 8) Put handrails on stair walls

He brought in Huntwood Cabinets and provided a kitchen design for new cabinets and full set of contractor drawings based on what I wanted with my changeover to a regular range instead of an in-wall oven and current setup. Since he is so busy right now, I decided to go with someone else for the renovation since I had a faster timeline to get it done. I will probably have him do one of the other projects that I have scheduled earlier next year.

Simons Construction came out to the house and measured all windows that were replaced. They removed all the wood trim around the old windows and then replaced the old windows with new vinyl windows then reinstalled the wood trimmings around the new windows very professionally. They installed the new custom blinds. It was all professionally done. I would highly recommend them. They are very courteous and professional. Their costs are very reasonable.

THE WORK WAS A CONTINUAL PROCESS, SOMETIMES WHEN THERE COULD BE COMBINED JOBS WORKED THEY WERE, THE MAIN EMPHASIS WOULD BE THE QUALITY OF WORK DONE, MINIMUM TIME. THE ROOFING JOB IS ONE TO BE PROUD OF, AND THE NEIGHBORS HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR APPEAL OF THE WORK, SOME HAVE EVEN CONTRACTED FOR THEIR ROOF TO BE DONE, THE ROOF WAS A LONG TERM (LIMITED LIFE COMPOSITE ROOF) AND WAS GREAT TO BEHOLD. THE ROOF ALSO HAD ADDITIONAL SUBROOFING TO PREVENT "SPOKANE WEATER - ICE, SNOW INTRUSION". I REPLACED THE WINDOW WITH ENERGY EFFICIENT THERMAL WINDOWS. THE WINDOWS ALL GLIDE SMOOTHLY AND YOU CAN FEEL AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE WITH HEAT AND COOLING. THEY AS WELL ENHANCE OUR HOUSE IN BEAUTY AND SECURITY. I THEN HAD THE HOUSE SIDING REPAIRED (NUMEROUS SIDING BOARDS WARPED, CRACKED, ENABLING PESTS, BUGS TO ENTER AND WATER INTRUSION). THIS WAS A EXTENSIVE PROCESS THAT REQUIRED A QUALITY CRAFTSMAN TO EXPEND PRIDE AND QUALITY INTO HIS WORK, NOT JUST A " QUICK MAKE IT LOOK GOOD AND MOVE ON", THIS I AM VERY HAPPY WITH. I HAD THE HOUSE PAINTED WITH SUPERIOR PAINT, BUT BEFORE THE PAINTING COULD BE DONE THERE WAS EXTENSIVE PAINT SCRAPPING OF THE OLD PAINT, AND THEN METICULOUS PRIMING AND CHAULKING OF THE EXPOSED WOOD (BARE AND NEW WOOD). THE EXTERIOR PAINTING WAS DONE WITH TRUE PRIDE AND CRAFTSMAN SKILL, I ALSO HAD THE GUTTERS REPLACED WITH CONTINOUS ALUMINUM, THE COLOR MATCHED PERFECTLY, I AM VERY HAPPY AND SATISFIED WITH WORK AND PRICE ACCOMPLISHED "OUTSTANDING, "THANKS SIMON"
Description of Work: I CONTRACTED AFTER RECEIVING AN ESTIMATE FOR A NEW ROOF, SIDING REPAIR, WINDOWS AND PAINTING OF THE HOUSE EXTERIOR. I FOUND VARIOUS REFERENCES OF THEIR WORK, AND PRICE COMPARISIONS, ALL CHECKED OUT AND WERE REASONABLE IF NOT LESS THAN THEIR COMPETITORS. THE WORK WAS ACCOMPLISHED QUICKLY, BUT WITH PRIDE AND OUTSTANDING QUALITY, I CANNOT OVEREMPHASIZE THE GREAT JOB THEY DID FOR THE PRICE I PAID. THE WORK AND WORKERS WERE FRIENDLY, BUT NOT WASTING TIME TALKING, SINCE THEIR JOBS WERE COMPLETED IN AN OUTSTANDING FASHION, YET MIMAL TIME. THERE WERE NO TIME THAT THEY WEREN'T DOING THEIR JOB.

Took 2 weeks longer than estimated, subs not totally informed of plans, scope of project ended up much larger and twice as expensive as I had anticipated. Well thanks to Angie's list we have had a lot of demand for our work owing to many good reviews, so I expanded the crew by hiring a new tile carpenter/tile installer for bathroom work, who did this job. There were conditions that arose here that caused us extra time and work, but we stayed on budget. No actual promise was made about the time needed in our estimate, but we stayed on it continuously other than the carpenter having a medical appointment. We gave this customer a full bathroom remodel with a large shower with a special glass block window at a very low price of under $5,000 before tax and I even paid most of the sales tax. My plan was to help charitably with some special needs for an elderly parent. We returned to do additional work requested at no charge whatsoever. We got used to A ratings mostly so a C rating here is fair enough! SW

Purchased deal for $49.00 for consultation. I was contacted by Simon Way right away we agreed on a time for him to come and look at our kitchen. Simon was very professional and prompt in all our dealings. He had great ideas for the space and I am very pleased to have purchased the kitchen plans. The plans were great, actually exceeded our expectations! We have other commitments at this time so are looking at the kitchen remodel at a future date. I would certainly recommend Simon's construction based on my dealings with him.

i thought i would have to rebuild the deck but while simon gave me a bid for the new deck he also suggested just repairing and repainting it at a much lower cost--a nice surprise. despite horrible weather he and james finished the repairs in a timely fashion, the deck looks great and i will be contacting him again about a long overdue indoor remodel. i also appreciated how quiet and efficient james was and the extra effort both he and simon took to see that i was inconvenienced as little as possible(making sure access in and out was never blocked, arriving on time, dealing with pets, etc) i would certainly recommend this company.

The new tub took longer to get here than we had hoped. As soon as it did arrive, Simon picked it up at the freight yard, rather than wasting more time waiting for delivery! They went right to work getting it installed. We had bitter cold temps that week, and when reinstalling the toilet which was in the garage during the project, the base cracked, and the toilet leaked. No worries, Simon quickly replaced it with a new one!! James the "Tile Guy" was fabulous, he was prompt, and did an amazing job!! He added a cabinet with a counter top in the extra space we ended up with, expertly matched the tile, flooring and counter top materials, even the stain for the base boards were a perfect match!! It looks Beautiful!! We love it! You won't be disappointed with this company!!
Description of Work: We had them remove a large soaker tub from our Master Bath, and replace it with a jetted walk in tub. My husband is disabled and in a W/C, so his safety was our primary concern!

Pretty much without a hitch. Weather during construction was often wicked-hot and the master-carpenter showed-up at six a.m. which suited me just fine because I was often a participant in the demolition side of things. The price of the job came in a few thousand dollars above the estimate, due to the mid-course addition of the pergola and un-anticipated structural repairs to our exterior walls and the frame of the side deck. The guys showed up from start to finish, which is always a plus.
Description of Work: Saved our butts, is what. We had a wrap-around deck against half the perimeter of our house which had been improperly installed and not maintained for about 10 years, which was causing the back of the house to sag and rot. I removed the decking, but they dismantled the frames, rebuilt the walls, gave us 2 new walk-out decks and stabilized the whole structure. Since decks had odd dimensions (20.3' x 15' and 18'x18') the decking was picture-framed and then filled in. A pergola was also installed on the wide deck. The result was a real asset to our house where formerly we had had an rotted-out, insect-infested mess.

We want to tell you about our pleasant experience with Simon Way Construction (aka SCS Construction). We read his favorable reviews on Angie's List and contacted him for a small project on our kitchen to move our counters two inches (and redo our countertops and tile) as we had a problem with space when we wanted to update our range. When shopping to purchase a new stove, because our stove and dishwasher were in an ?L? position, we had a construction dilemma. Simon had many suggestions as we worked through this, and his carpenter (and tile man) James was indeed a master craftsman at putting this project together. We are very well pleased with the way the project was handled, the communication lines were kept open, and it was completed in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Moved L-shaped counter (one side) 2 inches; installed countertops to accommodate new range; installed new backsplash tile to our specifications.

Arrived to all meetings on time. Simon went to great lengths to craft a very thorough and detailed proposal, he communicated proactively and clearly to let us know where he was in the process and when to expect information. He is very easy to work with. Simon's proposal for remodelling our bathrooms was slightly below our planned budget - we felt his pricing was reasonable. Approx $5.6K/bathroom - small bathrooms, but full remodels. Unfortunately, we did not end up contracting Simon - we ended up selecting a vendor who will execute all of the projects we're completing. We will definitately be reaching out to Simon in the future when we look at remodeling our Kitchen and dining rooma area. His proposal was thorough and pricing was very reasonable. We failed to have Simon review all the different projects were were bidding out - we should have, its now clear to us that his company has expertise across all the different areas - windows, roofing, painting, light installation, carpet installation, wall paper removel etc. This was our miss, and unfortunately we didn't understand the full scope of his company's expertise until it was too late in our vendor selection process.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a home and contacted Simon, and a few other contractors to bid on a variety of improvement projects. We had Simon submit a proposal that included full remodel for 3 bathrooms. We did not end up contracting Simon, but will certainly be reaching out to him in the future - his proposal pricing was very reasonable, his ideas were helpful, and his professionalism and responsiveness was the best we've ever experienced when completing a remodel/home improvement project.
February 2011, I decided it was time to replace the tile around the tub in our main bathroom (I had never done a project like this). Once I had the tile removed from one end wall, I realized this was going to be more than I bargained for. Plus, we saw the tub should be replaced; as well as the flooring; and the toilet. Thirteen months later (my wife is very patient with me), we began getting bids to complete (do) the job. When Simon, of SCS Contracting, came by to give a bid, we were very comfortable with his demeanor. He looked at things; listened to what we said; and made suggestions, but didn't try to push us to anything. He gave us the options, but left the choices up to us. When we called for the bid, we asked for tub replacement; tile/tub surround installation; toilet replacement; ventilation fan installation; and new flooring. As a "if the budget could handle it", we also asked what the cost would be to replace the vanity top and back splash; sink; and paint the bathroom. Simon gave us a rough estimate we were pleased with; and set up a time for us to meet him at The Home Depot to make our choices for materials, so he could give us a complete estimate. His suggestions here were, again, very welcome and not pushed. It took us about an hour on a Friday evening to make enough choices to get the project going (a couple of things, we could decide as the project progressed). Less than two weeks (work days were Monday through Friday) from this visit to The Home Depot, we had a finished bathroom. We ended up getting the bath tub replaced; a tub surround installed; new shower fixtures; glass tub doors installed; flooring replaced (including sub-flooring, as needed); toilet replaced; sink and faucet replaced; vanity top replaced; back splash tiled; ventilation fan installed; and painting done. And it looks fantastic!!! At the end of each work day, everything was cleaned up and we didn't have to negotiate our way around a "construction" zone. And, a big plus, we were never without the use of a toilet or sink in that bathroom during the project! We have a second bathroom in need of a "total makeover", and are looking forward to giving SCS Contracting another job in a few months.

Simon's Construction Services really did a nice job. We liked everybody. They had run out of parts or there was a miscommunication between the supplier and the store and we had to wait a few days. They were out here and finished installing as soon as they came in. Simon kept in contact with us on a daily basis. The skill of workmanship was excellent. The timing of things went off to our satisfaction. I think the pricing was competitive, the materials are expensive. It is all synthetic decking materials except for the joists and all the wood products are all pressure treated lumber timbers. He gave us a recommendation for someone to replace the glass in one of our windows. He would have replaced the window if the surround needed it, but he told us it was just the glass.
Description of Work: Simon's Construction Services built a new deck.

His name is Simon and he is really good. His design was better than mine. He is honest and hardworking and never stops. He has a lot of integrity and will replace anything that he has done wrong. He is really eager to please. He is a general contractor and has workers that do everything you need done. He is really good at putting up cabinets and redoing the kitchen. I like our kitchen and it looks beautiful. He did a great job. It is really hard when you are working with an existing kitchen because you are working with existing imperfect walls and ceilings that aren't leveled but he did a wonderful job. I think that his price is reasonable but not cheap, and that is because it is of high quality. He was here within two days of my calling to make the bid. He was here early for both jobs to make the bid. You have to wait until he is ready to do it if he is doing a bunch of other jobs but he usually gets somebody out really quick. He will get somebody out to do the labor work that he won’t be doing, and he always introduces them to you. He brings them to you personally for the introduction. He will not allow them inside the house unless you need something.
Description of Work: SCS Contracting did landscape design and put in rocks with mortar in between. The work involved a little bit of masonry, stacking and excavating. We have a little place that goes down the hill and he put in a bench on the uphill side where the patio is and made a garden there and a garden below. He put in more rocks, did the draining, hooked up the sprinkler and all that kind of work. He had also done kitchen remodeling for us three years ago. He has come out to take pictures since then.
