Quality, fair priced, trustworthy. Simon and Eric remodeled our bathrooms exactly the way we wanted for what was a very fair price. The result was beautiful. Simon always answered my phone calls and sent me texts and emails to keep me up to date. We now have the rarest of all: a contractor we trust. Simon is now working on covering our deck and finishing our basement. Believe it or not, I kind of wish we had more for him to do. I look forward to working with him again.

It's been a pleasure working for you and establishing this relationship. Thank you for the work.
We started with a finishing up a botched job, by another contractor that we fired, of adding a bathroom to a laundry room in the basement. Simon's crew did such a professional job that we decided to get all of the changes to our house that we had planned for the future. This included a new open concept kitchen, new pantry, new beautiful stair treads and banister, new 12' X 20' deck off our living room/sun room, refinishing and updating the gas fireplace, combining two small bedrooms and a small master bath into a large master bedroom and larger updated bathroom and refinishing all of the oak floors.. The masterpiece though was the sunroom that was 11" down from the kitchen on concrete and cold as heck during the winter with old leaky windows. His master craftsman, James, created a work of art with that room. Fully insulated, new windows, beautiful cedar work on walls and windows. Simon and his crew were fair and accurate in their pricing. They worked with us to give us exactly what we wanted. They were always there when they said they would be. Their work is so good we want them to build a small office in our back yard for business. We'll let you know how that goes. We recommend Simon's company for anyone who wants a quality job of renovation done. I could not put the price in the next field successfully so I will include it here. The entire cost of the project was $130,000.00. Later we will add pictures to this review.

It took a little while to coordinate a visit and get a bid - mostly due to our schedules - but once we had the bid it was a fast, easy, and professional experience. Everyone that worked on the job was great - and nice to our obnoxious dogs. :) Simon was very responsive when we called and texted with questions before and during the job. We trusted him to build without a very specific diagram, but everything came out just as he described. We're very happy with the results and will gladly hire Simon and his team again.
Description of Work: We hired Simon to replace a large single-story deck with a modified version (different dimensions, stairs, etc. than the old one.) Simon suggested specific composite decking material and sizing to maximize our use of materials. He let us demolish the old deck ourselves but had his crew haul it away which worked well for us.

From the very first contact, Simon was prompt and professional in every way. He worked with us to translate our vision for our new kitchen into plans, and then into reality. His work crew were courteous, professional, and quick to make suggestions on many details that made the kitchen even better. They always let us know the status and plans along the way. If there was any problem, Simon was on it immediately, determined to make it right. He is truly a man of his word. He really went above and beyond in making sure the new addition matched the look and finish of the existing home – very important in our historic district. We have some smaller projects in the future, and will definitely work with Simon again.
Description of Work: Simon was the contractor on a major kitchen renovation. This was a demolition and addition project. The work involved tearing off the old kitchen, (a very small one-story addition on the back of our two-story house), pouring a new foundation, framing and finishing a much better kitchen including insulation, drywall and flooring, and installation of new appliances. Simon coordinated the services of an architect, a plumber, and an electrician, and gave us recommendations for a top-quality cabinet craftsman and a countertop installer.

Simon's crew was great. The laborer digging the windows has the best work ethic. It's rare to find somebody who works as hard as he does in that kind of role. He made quick work of two big holes. I had a few different carpenters on the job and all were good to work with. The final product turned out as expected. Simon was great with communication. There were delays on window manufacturing and concrete cutting and he always made sure I was informed. He made every effort to make sure I was pleased, all the way down to the last fine details. If all things had aligned, the job would have taken a week. The delays pushed it to 2+ weeks, but it wasn't a big deal for us. We were happy with the work and would hire SCS again.

First, the caveat, my girl and I drove in from Las Vegas to work on this. It is a 46 year old home. We painted the utility room and a small bedroom ourselves and helped out wherever we were needed. Ok, it was a typical renovation. By that, I mean, if it could go south, it did. We tried to do all of the assessment and prep work on Monday with supplies purchased on Sunday night. I scrubbed the front porch and got all of the moss off of it and removed a ton of grime. And, make a list of additional supplies that would be needed, that I picked up that night at Home Depot. So, Tuesday morning, Fred filled the crack after a little more prep work and then moved inside, where I was making another attempt at scraping the floors. I was there in February, doing a renovation on the rest of the house. Fred came in and while I got more supplies locally and prepped the floors some more, he cleared the bathroom and started with demo in there, turning off the water and removing supply lines, removing the sink and toilet. Upon removing the toilet, we found there was some leakage, there was a piece of subfloor left over from February that he was able to utilize and make the repair. That pretty well killed the afternoon and he cased the inside of the door jamb as a finishing touch before he left. Wednesday morning, after determining that the Sentinel 747 floor glue remover was leaving the glue still sticky after overnight drying, we found that I should have also bought the Sentinel Neutralizer 810 to follow that up. The problem is that Home Depot, where I bought the original product, does not carry the neutralizer, nor does anyone else in Spokane. So, we ended up putting a nice stain resistant carpet in the dining room from a run to Carpet Barn. Fred meanwhile was putting in the Traffic Master, in the utility room and into the area by the back door toward the kitchen. A lot of measuring and cutting tailored pieces instead of just long straight full-sized runs. And putting the washer and dryer back into the room and doing the hook ups to them again. Plus, he removed the hook ups from the dishwasher and we carried it outside. Thursday, Fred had a previous estimate appointment, but, we were notified well in advance and prepared for it. Fred continued on the floor and the carpet was installed by Carpet Barn, excellent job, also. Scott came in and installed the sink and toilet in the afternoon, which went well until we got to the sink drain, which didn't want to seal the sink. Simon promised to resolve that after the conclusion of work on Friday. So the dishwasher, got installed Friday and the door was cased and the floor was finished. I wasn't there for the conclusion, but I have faith in Simon and Fred and that the work would be as impeccable as it was when I was there. Meanwhile, my girl and I as previously mentioned, painted the utility room and a small bedroom in two tone paint schemes, she did dry wall knockdown and fill in work around a light switch. I ended up doing the refinish on the front porch surface and she smoothed the crack after my last fill-in as I ran locally to get more parts. The work all looks good and my sister says she is also happy with the work. Which is good because, she and her husband live there and while inconvenienced are satisfied in SCS and their work. Dates on which thing got done when may be a little off, but we completed a load of work in good time with the help of SCS.
Description of Work: Simon's guy came in on time and was excellent in everything he did. Inside and outside casing a door jamb. Advising on and filling a concrete crack and refinishing a surface, then paint. Removal and replacement of old vinyl flooring in the utility/bathroom. Replacement of flooring in kitchen. Subfloor repair/replacement in the bathroom and installed pedestal sink and new toilet. Removal of an old dishwasher and installed a new dishwasher. He worked hard for four days and Simon sent additional help the third day for four hours on intense work in the bathroom and kitchen.

The time it took for the deck to be completed was longer than expected but only because our deck job presented so many unexpected challenges! The deck came out beautifully and was definitely worth the wait. The cost of our project was higher because we requested AZEK decking instead of wood. Taylor (the deck installer) was amazing! His attention to detail was incredible and he kept us in the loop every step of the way. We will definitely use them again when we decide to do more remodeling.

Fred, Simon's employee, did most of the work in my home. Simon dealt with all the plans, estimates, inspections and finances with me. I found him to be very personable and professional, and clearly wished to do a good job on my house. As usual, no project like this goes without running into a few bumps, but Simon was very good at communicating with me and we were able to smoothly work through our challenges. He was very receptive to my wishes and financial situation. I felt very much a part of the "team" working on my home, which I attribute to Simon's willingness to listen and respect my ideas and wishes. My hat goes off to Fred, who performs exceptional, high-quality work. He is especially a skilled carpenter and is quite competent in all other areas of home remodeling. He demonstrates a good work ethic, always left my home clean and was pleasant to deal with. SImon's Contracting Services is tops on my list. I will hire them again and recommend them to others. I plan to have Fred do work in my new home.
Description of Work: My home was being prepared to be put on the real estate market. The following items were performed: The roof was replaced (original roof was removed) 7 old aluminum windows were replaced with vinyl windows Sliding glass door to patio was replaced. Entire inside of house was painted Exterior was repainted in spots where the windows were replaced. Siding and fascia repaired New kitchen floor installed New handrail for stairs to basement was made and installed Numerous other tasks to meet the appraiser/inspector requirements were completed Pressure washed deck Various plumbing in kitchen and baths

He was easy to get ahold of and prompt at responding. The plumber and contractor who helped with the project were great - professional, pleasant, cleaned up and most importantly, did great work. Simon came by many times to bring items needed to complete the project and make sure all was going well. I especially was grateful that he dealt with the Home Improvement store, to make sure that missing parts were made available. All in all, he made the whole experience very pleasant and I'm sure I'll be calling him for my next project.

We had several contractors come out to look at and bid our project, with the majority of the bids coming out to right around $5K. So we expected to pay right around this amount and this is pretty much where Simon's bid came out. We were told that it would take 4-6 days to finish the work (40 hours of labor). First off, SCS was able to get started right away, which was nice and initially progress seemed very quick. Originally, the beams were not going to be hidden into the attic and that was not part of the bid, but Simon told us that it would be $985 and add 1-2 days to the project to hide both beams in the attic, so we told him to proceed with that. A second addition to the job that was not part of the original bid was re-texturing a hallway ceiling and a small section at the bottom of the stairs that had popcorn ceiling. I did all of the removal and cleanup of the popcorn and got it prepped for texturing. Simon said that the extra texturing would add a couple hours to the project, which he basically brushed off as a non-issue, so we agreed and I told them to proceed with that as well. Once the basic demo and framing was done (by the third day if memory serves), we hit a snag when the inspector came out and said that the stairs that were worked on were not to code and would have to be redone. This added a half day of rip out and repair. Now that the construction was complete, it was time to drywall and then finish. This is where time really started to stack up, with some days seeming like very little was completed (from what we could see, a couple of pieces of drywall cut and screwed up per day for a couple of days). Next came taping and mudding, which again, took days and days. At the end of the second week, we were asking how close we were, and told it would hopefully be done by the beginning of the following week. When we would ask if everything was going well or if anything was wrong, we were simply told that it takes a lot of work to get the drywall right so that it will look good in the end. The end of the third week was the same, keep in mind, pretty much all of this was just to mud and prep the drywall for texturing. A couple of the areas I have concern with and point out that they seem to be a bit of a hard line in the mud, which I am told will completely disappear with texture and painting. The texturing was finally done mid-4th week. Hooray! Remember how I said that I had some concerns with some of the areas having lines, and was told that they would disappear with texture and paint? Well, those lines are still there and after several coats of expensive paint (hoping that more would help them disappear), we can still see, and feel, where most of the patching was done (which gets pretty obvious at night when shadows fall across the walls). Several weeks go by and we hear from Simon that he has been looking at the job and wants to come talk numbers, we say OK. Simon arrives and drops a bill in our laps that is over $2,000 above what we were expecting (and that includes the $985 we agreed to for the extra work add on). $2,000 over a $5,000 bill is a 40% addition, which shocked us, especially since we asked Simon initially before work started if his bid included a contingency and he indicated that it did. After expressing concern, pointing out some of the mistakes, and pointing out the fact that we never, not once, received a call from Simon stating that we were blowing past the budget, only then did Simon drop the bill by $1,000, which was still well over what we were expecting. So the taste that we are left with is: 1) A job that took 3 weeks longer than we were told (with no real major problems along the way except for the stairs that were not built to code that had to be fixed in order to pass inspection) 2) A job that was well over budget 3) Worst of all, a job that does not look very good (and if you are wondering, no, Simon did not offer to fix the mistakes) Update: After reading the negative review Simon called and offered to fix the bulges and obvious lines in the drywall. We had Fred, one of Simon's subs that was very good by the way, come out to fix the drywall. He got it done and now it looks quite a bit better. Still do not recommend, but at least the worst of the eyesores are gone.

Thanks very much for the accountability, which I share with my team - we had some difficulty with texture matching there it's true, but succeeded quite well in the end - and you did say it was a good job the day I came back to see you, so I'm sorry I did not know you needed any mistakes fixed. However I will be calling to offer to fix any thing you would like to be fixed, no problem. At the time you both seemed to agree the very substantial reduction in the bill was fair, but since it now seems not to have been enough we will still endeavor to make you happier. We found you to be very nice people and I think we can still achieve your satisfaction - With our best regards, Simon & crew.

This was a major undertaking, due to the placement of the cabin on the lot we could not get any heavy equipment down to the site. Everything had to be dug, carried and built by hand. Simon and his subcontractor Eric were great throughout the process providing improvement ideas as we went that made the final product exceed our expectations. Simon was transparent in his dealings with us and we always felt comfortable with the timing, billing and overall quality of the project. I would highly recommend this company for any type of home improvement project you are considering.
