Our friend and realtor arranged for us to meet Gene to just talk house plans. We had found a house plan online that we really loved, and we were hoping that IHD could help us design something like it. Not only did Gene patiently go through his own plans, picking out the ones that were closest to the one we loved, he also pointed out little things that could be done to streamline and simplify the plans to keep the square footage, and thereby the potential building costs, within our budget. He was not only very patient, but also quite knowledgeable. We were very impressed by his professional demeanor and attitude, and his treatment of us. He was very straightforward with the costs to tweak the plans, to build a plan from scratch, etc. and giving us all of the options. In addition to that, Gene quickly drew the changes and specifications we wanted over the stock plan to give us a visual of the changes he was planning based on our "dream plan". He also recommended that we talked to builders, of which he had a varied list depending on our styles (no hands-on, some hands-on, full hands-on) and get a bid based on the specifications we had just talked about, BEFORE we spend the money in having him draw the plans, in his words, to make sure that we could afford to have the house built before we spend a single penny by having him draw the plans. We got the plans back so quickly, and Glen suggested we took the printout home witht eh 1/4 inch ruler to make sure everything was as needed. After we submitted our changes (they were pretty small since Gene really hit it all on the nail!), we got the plan via email for final review. Gene is now working on the builders' plans and will release them only to those builders on the short list of the bidders. We should be getting the final plans after the Memorial week-end. I have no doubt that they will be near perfect. Yet, Gene recommended that we took the plans home to double check everything once more before he prints the sets for the builders. Great company, great guy, definitely professional, transparent in his business dealing with us. We highly recommend Independent Home Designs.
