Very professional during estimate/quote phase. They had promised to keep vents/pipes for system within walls, out of sight in our finished basement. Ultimately they could not accomplish this and we have bulky pipes in plain view. Seemed to be a fair price. Workers dropped tools covered in tar on our carpet and we now have multiple stains that we've repeatedly, unsuccessfully, tried to remove, which isn't a huge deal but is irritating.

System works exactly as intended with the desired results. A little more system noise than was expected but not excessive.

An estimate was given to mitigate the radon for a house I had bought while it was in escrow. I wanted to wait until I moved into the house to determine where the pipe was going to be placed. After I got to Spokane, I called the company. The owner came out and complained about problems with the house and that it was going to be difficult to place the pipe in the right place. He said that his brother had given the estimate, who was no longer with the company. He described the service that was to be provided and that the crawl space would need to have plastic glued to the walls. I explained that my Mother, who has COPD was visiting that afternoon for a week. He said that they would perform all the services, except gluing the plastic, until after she had left, because the fumes might bother her. I agreed that I would call them to set up an appointment to finish the job. After she left, I called and set up an appointment. No one showed. I called again and was told someone would call me back. No one did. I called a third time and was told the job was finished and they didn't need to come out. I asked for the owner to call me to explain this new development. He left a very curt message saying that the job couldn't be glued because the crawl space was on an incline and that it should be fine and that another radon test should be performed and if it was within the acceptable amount that he didn't need to do anything else. I assumed he would perform the test. I was called about a month later and was accused of not paying the bill. I told the front office person that the radon test had not been performed. She said the owner would call me back. When the owner called, he said he had only 90 days to file a lien against me, which didn't make any sense. I told him until the test was performed and we knew the radon mitigation system was working, I didn't want to pay the bill. He said that he had sent a kit. I had not received a kit. When I did receive the kit, I followed the instructions and sent it back. During this time, he sent a letter stating that he would wait for the results and if everything was in the acceptable range that I needed to write a check. On Christmas Eve, I receive a call from him saying that he had not received a check in the mail that day. I didn't know what he was talking about and said that I hadn't had any correspondence from him since the letter nor had I received the test results. He left the test results, which he had received, taped to the doors of my house on Christmas Eve while I was gone to the airport to pick up my guests for the Christmas holiday. The whole incident was very creepy and worried me a little about what he would do. When I got the results and saw that the test was within the range, I sent a check to him. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone! I think he and his company is very disorganized and lacks communication skills.

Response from Advanced Radon Technologies, Inc.
Advanced Radon Technologies is sorry that this normal radon mitigation turned out so difficult for all involved. We want to start by letting everyone know that it took this client 97 DAYS to pay her bill. The estimate for this project was completed on 5/7/14. The client was not present as it was conducted as part of a real estate transaction. The work was started & completed on 9/24/14. She had indicated that her mother was coming to visit later that day & she is suffering from COPD. Having my father-in-law pass from complications from COPD I told the client that I was concerned about the off gassing of the many of the products used in radon mitigation & that we would be willing to install the crawl space portion of her radon system without all of the sealing & return at a later date to complete the sealing. There are no crawl space vents to the outside to vent the off gassing so we did not want to burden her mother with added chemicals or smells. Once the work was started in the crawl space with several layers of vapor bearer & a slope to the dirt, It was very difficult to install the new plastic sheeting without pulling it away form the walls & breaking the seal. The installer found several large rocks & other weights to secure the plastic so he could install the rest of the new plastic. He ended up sealing the barrier to the foundation wall to a much higher degree then we had discussed with the client. This is where the majority of the problem started. She called about a week later to schedule the reminder of the sealing in the crawl space. I had informed the office manager to call her back & let her know we had sealed the crawl space much more then she & I had discussed & that we did not need to return & she should run the radon test we sent with the invoice on 9/26/14 (in the same envelope as company policy.) She called back a few days later wanting to talk to me directly. I returned the call the next day & left her a detailed voice mail, explaining the additional work we completed in the crawl space & we did not need to return as we sealed the plastic to a much higher degree then we had discussed on 9/24/14 & that she just needed to run the clearance radon test & if the radon system was not reducing the radon levels to below the US EPA action level, we would return & do any modifications to the system to bring the radon levels down & if the radon levels were already below the action level, the system is functioning correctly & no additional work is required. The next contact with this client was at the 60 day past due. She at this time claimed that she had never received her radon test kit & would not pay the invoice till she had satisfactory radon test results. We tried to explain that was not what was stipulated in the contract she had signed & that she is responsible to pay for services she received. If there is any type of problem within the 3 year warrantee period we stand behind our products & services, as we have for the last 44 years. Several phone conversations transpired over the next couple of weeks that did not go well for either side. We agreed to send her another radon test kit at no additional expense, so we could get this matter settled. She was convinced we needed to do more work & we were just trying to get her to run a radon test (because we only have 90 days to file a lien which seem to infuriate her). After the last phone conversation ART, sent the client a certified letter (12/5/14) explaining what should be done to settle the matter. That she needed to run the test ASAP & if the results came back below 4 pci/l she would need to write us a check & we would subtract all the late fees & charges. If the test did not come back below the action level, we would come make any necessary modifications to the system & upon completion of this work she would write us a check for the total amount owed before we left the property & we would also supply an additional test kit. We explained this all must happen before 12/26/14, as we were required by law to file an intent to lien before the 90 days from the original invoice (dated 9/26/14) as we are not inclined to turn her account over for collections. On 12/13/14 we received a letter from the client stating she had ran the test & sent it off but would prefer to pay by credit card & that she agreed that if the test results came back below the action level that she would be happy to pay the original amount. We left her a voice mail & explained we do not accept credit cards but a check was fine. On 12/15/14 our office received the radon test results via fax from Air Check which came back at 1.2 pci/l, well below the action level of 4 pci/l. We expected her to receive the test results within a few days. On 12/24/14 we received the mail & there was no payment form the client. I called her approximately 11 :OOAM. She seemed very upset that I would call on Christmas Eve to discuss this situation. I tried to explain that we only had a 2 days to receive her payment before we would be forced to file a lien on her property. She stated she had not received her test results & she was on her way to the airport to pick up people that were coming to visit her for the holidays & how dare I call on Christmas Eve to discuss this! We called Air Chek to see why the client had not received her test results & found out that she did not fill out the information asking for email or fax number for faster results. On the radon test kit it' asks if you need your results ASAP & to provide an email or fax number. We can't understand why she would have left this line blank when everyone involved in this situation knew time was of the essence. I made copies of her radon test results & drove to her house to give them to her as we did not have her email address or the time to send them to her via the US mail. I clipped one to her mail box on her front porch & taped another one to her back door. Since she had claimed not to receive many voice mails or regular US mail letters we wanted to make sure she would receive at least one of the two. We finally received payment on 12/29/14, 97 days after the work was completed. We are again sorry that this project was not a good experience for the client but we spent about 60 days just trying to get her to run a radon test. If she had conducted the radon test when she first received the invoice & radon test kit, none of this would have ever happened

Description of Work: Radon mitigation on the two lower floors of my house. They installed a pipe (with a fan in the attic area) from the lowest level that exited through the roof. Overall they did a nice job.

Everything went well, showed up on time, had it done in one day, and all seems to be working well. The only thing that surprised me was that they don't accept any credit cards, but other than that all went great

Description of Work: Loads of information about Radon and a recommendation to wait and see about |the noisy fan after we move in and the house hold goods are all in place, which |might help muffle the sound of the fan. Good information on Radon in Spokane |which is extremely variable depending on where you live. | |I would definitely use him again as there is an expertise that he has that is valuable.

The level was not enough to start several thousand dollars worth of work but instead requires testing at other times of the year to get a clear assessment. These guys saved me money and work in the house while educating us on radon. I'll use them if I need work done to deal with the radon.
Description of Work: After talking with them they recommended I retest for radon for a more accurate measurement. I obtained the test from them (a few dollars), did the test and the results showed a much lower level then our home inspection showed.

This was the lowest price estimate that we got but the company also seemed like the most knowledgeable. It took a few weeks to get on the schedule. The workers showed up on schedule and completed their work in one day as they said they would. They explained things to me and why things looked as they did, the fire cuffs around the pipes and things like that. Our radon went from 14 to 0.2 and has stayed at that level every time we do a test.
