Paul ortiz and his Son Danny came and talked to my grandma, she told him that we needed the old grass in our back yard removed, new grass put in, 10 trees planted, and . our patio extended with pavers. he quoted us $3750 for the job. He asked for $1750 up front, we gave him the money in a cashiers check. He stated this was for the trees, pavers, gravel, dumping the grass and dirt, and labor. They dug up the grass, palnted the trees, and dug a hole for the pavers. Then he stated we had bad soil and he would have to do a ton more work and it would cost us $1200 or more on top of the orginal estimate, when I stated I wasn't sure I can afford that additional money, he said he would have to stop until I could pay the additional funds. He never bought the pavers, or dumped the dirt, he told me I owed him $700 more, which I paid. As of now I have a torn up yard, dirt on the side of my house, a hole in my yard. when I asked him for receipts of where my $2450 went he told me he did not have to provide receipts. Stay away from this guy. He goes by Dannys lawn and tree service.

This was the worst experience I have had with a landscaper in seventeen years of home ownership. There were three "mysterious" episodes of vandalism on the property while owner Paul Ortiz was working on this job, and after further investigation, it became suspicious that he and/or his employees could be the origin of the damage. Every time he gave a bid, he would get halfway into the work, then say that he needed more money to finish. He offerred to buy the shrubs and trees, saying he could get up to 50% off the cost due to it being the end of the season. When I later called the nursery, I found out he was upcharging three times the price. In the beginning of a project he was enthusiastic and energetic, then once he received a check, his worked dropped to a near standstill. I paid for materials for a fence project. He put up a few posts and let them sit for two weeks. He then came four days in two weeks thereafter, and worked less than two hours each day. He then concocted a story that "someone" had "pulled" on the posts and he needed to replace seven posts and pour more concrete, when the posts had been doing fine during the time he was not there. He then wanted me to pay him for his cost of "repairing" this supposed damage. He had the nerve to say to me that he priced out the type of fence I wanted with other fence companies and decided he had "way underbid" the job and the price was going up $3600. I finally had enough and fired him and he had the nerve to tell me I should reconsider my decision as now he could "amazingly" get the job done in five days. He also goes by Father and Son Landscaping serving Tacoma, WA. He is totally dishonest and will change his story between the beginning and end of a conversation.
