Just great service. Everything from scheduling the appointment to the actual service was perfect. The tech was fast, helpful and knowledgeable. He did not want to leave until he was certain I had what I needed. The price was extremely fair. The plumber tells me the information they provided was exactly what he needed. Fast, efficient and fair - what more could I ask for?

The tech who came out was wonderful. However, there is a flat fee of approx. seven hundred dollars no matter how long they stay. The tech found the leak within 30 minutes. I asked if they would bill hourly, but no. I thought it was very expensive, though it was important to find the leak.

As much as I dislike leaks, it's been a pleasure working with American Leak Detection of the three issues I had this past year. We bought an older house that was re-modeled badly and had several issues. The tech was patient, courteous and respectful. I appreciated the methodical approach they used to isolate the leak and I was fortunate enough to get the same tech for each of my three services calls. Highly recommend and would use a fourth time if I had to.

The representative was able to quickly locate the leak (in the area I suspected). He was very informative about what he was doing and what was going on. Unfortunately they don't fix the leaks which I understand as that's not their job, but it's discouraging to watch the water bubbling up on a Saturday of a three day legal holiday. Not their fault, just a bad situation. I would use them again but hope this is a once in a lifetime experience.

I shared "how it went" in the section above.
Description of Work: This company was recommended to me by an individual who had been recommended to me to do a job which was not in his area of expertise. The American Leak Detection employee who was sent to our home searched for our leak for about 3 1/2 hours--until his machine ran out of gas--and said he'd need to come back again in two days. There was no charge for this time of work because the leak was not discovered. He returned in two days and found the leak within 10-15 minutes. David O. was fantastic! He was polite, professional, persistent and patient in his explanation to me and his performance. I highly recommend this company! |

They were wonderful. I got their name from my water company along with a couple of others and went with them because of their references here on Angie's List. I called them Thursday afternoon and we made an appointment for 8am Friday. Two lovely, professional young men arrived at 8 am and within an hour found my leak to be a defective external hose bib, so the estimated work order of $750, ( this high because of my very long rural driveway), was only $370. It was such a relief to find that I would not need major excavation and plumbing repairs. This will be simple to remedy. I am very impressed with this company and their earnest and honest work ethic and highly reccommend them.

The worst experience! On my property I have a separate entrance and exit and a striped parking lot. The technician, David, arrived 15 minutes late and parked in front of the entrance to the parking lot which prevented anyone arriving from parking. I asked him if he could please park “over there” which was one of the parking stalls. He then says, “Why, am I parked over the leak?’ Ridiculous question: 1) If I knew where the leak was he would not be at my house to begin with, 2) He should just promptly move his vehicle than argue with me. It is simple common sense that you don’t park in front of entrances or stand in doorways – you block the flow of traffic. David continued to be a smart-a** and asked, “Why, is someone about to arrive?” “What if I park in the stall and the leak is over there?” “If I park on the street wouldn’t I be taking up someone’s space?” “I’ll just be twenty minutes.” Rather than simply move his vehicle he just simply harassed me about my request. Told him to leave. Then called the office to report the situation and the lady responded, “I don’t understand what you want me to do about it.”

Excellent!!! They are very quick to get out here and give us good advice and help us to figure out what the problem was. It could have been an expensive repair but they let us know how we can do it less expensively which wasn't their company. I felt they are very professional and if I ever have a roof leak I would definitely call them. We thought it was a roof leak but it ended up it wasn't so they are able to help us to determine what it was. They were able to kinda investigate by pulling out some of the drywall ceiling in the garage so they are able to do some investigative work and determine that it wasn't a roof leak. I think probably a two years ago actually when they do the job. I felt that the price was well worth.

I had been told by a plumbing company that to replace the water line to the house, which was most likely galvanized or black iron pipe, would cost $9500 not including the hook up to the house. With American Leak Locators having found the leak I was able to excavate a six foot long, 3 foot deep trench, find out that I had black plastic pipe with no wear other than a fist sized rock directly rubbing on the leak site. (I never would have known about the black plastic if the plumbing company had drilled underground and not exposed the existing plastic pipe). The rest of the trench was sand filled as appropriate so it was unlikely that other problems were pending. For another $50 I bought a brass fitting and hose clamps and repaired the problem myself. Savings: over $9,000!

We had had work done on a water line and noticed that the water meter was still reflecting usage even though no water was being used in the house. Uncertain as to whether there might be leaking inside the slab or outside in the water line from the meter, our contractor (himself very well regarded by Angie's List users) recommended American Leak Detection - ALD - as simply the best at doing this kind of work. The appointment process was pretty simple ... they were busy and it was a few work days before I could get an appointment. The time scheduled was a window between 1 and 3. I received a reminder call the day before. There was a cancellation a day or so after I made the appointment and they called to ask if I was interested in moving up the appointment. I was not able to take them up on the early appointment but appreciated the opportunity. The day of the appointment, Turner called to let me know he was finished early at his earlier job and would be available to come a bit earlier if I wished. Since I had scheduled to take off from work later, I did not take him up on the offer (had I already been at home, this would have been a win/win). When he got the house, Turner noticed that the rate of meter movement was not fast. As an inexperienced homeowner, I had been under the impression that any movement meant a serious increase in my water bill after a water line repair and seemed like something that needed to be addressed. However, Tyler explained how the movement was so slow that not only would the pressure test have had questionable results, but that I should be aware that the sensitivity of the meter was such that even a minor (e.g., acceptably slow drip) could show up as movement. He demonstrated this by turning on a faucet in the house and showing how even a minimal use of the faucet could cause a noticeable increase in the meter movement, What was going on would have nowhere near the impact on the water bill that had skyrocketed earlier. We were pleased with how Turner took time to explain the testing process, common findings, and his evaluation as to what was taking place and appreciated his suggestion regarding different approaches to water issues. He was very patient with us and answered our newbie questions. He did not charge for the evaluation or the advice. He even refused a tip. Somewhat as an aside, it bears mentioning that four contractors had come out to look at the original leak. Only one of them suggested leak detection among the options and that person seemed somewhat pressed for time and never explained how detecting the location of a leak might impact the repair/replace decision or relative expense involved (several thousand dollars difference in options). Not sure if the old line about and quot;if you have a hammer in your hand everything looks like a nailand quot; applies to water line specialists. A trustworthy plumber might be the best person to advise when a leak detection service is warranted.
Description of Work: Inspected the water meter rate of usage, re-examined rate of usage after using water shut-off and running a faucet use test. Determined actual leak detection test not warranted.

I called and made the appointment and was told that he would arrive between 11-1pm. The day before the appointment, they called to remind me that he would arrive between 11-1pm. I took the day off from work and waited. I waited until 1pm and when he still had not arrived, I called the office. The receptionist informed me that he must be running late and would call David to determine where he was and to have him call me. A few minutes later, he called and said that according to his schedule for the day he was supposed to be at our house between 12-3pm. He was at his current appointment and could not leave yet and would probably be at our place by 3pm but would call when he was on his way. I called the office again to inform them of their snafu and the receptionist was completely unapologetic. She said that I must have the times wrong (I explained that I did not), then she tried to tell me that schedules change and I asked when they were planning on letting me know on the change to the schedule. I was very unimpressed by her. David did call when he left his job and was able to get to our house by 3pm. He was able to find the leak within 30 mins. He was completely professional. I would not hesitate to use David again in the future, but I don't know if I want to deal with their inability to schedule appointments.

The inspection went well and he did what was agreed upon. The inspector wanted the pool to be 82 degrees, but since our pool is not heated he had to do diving in his light weight diving suit with the temperature at 67 degrees. He was not happy about this , but did the dive anyway and accepted a hot drink from us to warm him up. We were wishing he would have fixed the leak, since it was a simple repair, but that is not what they do. They just find the problem and it is up to us to have it fixed. We fixed the leak ourself. As a follow up, the company provided a written review of what they did and identified where the leak was located.
Description of Work: tested the pool systems filter, pump, plumbing systems for leaks. inspected pool for leaks, used diving gear to inspect pool and used red dye to detect leaks. Found the leak in the area where the electrical wiring comes out of the conduit for pool flood light. It was repairable and provided us details on how to fix it.

Other than the service man arriving almost 1 hour late the work was fine. It took only 35 minutes from his arrtival to departure. This leak was under the parking area asphalt. It's marked off and ready for repairs.
Description of Work: This was a second visit by American Leak Detection. I don't have all the details on the first which occurred about one month earlier. They came out this time to detect a second underground leak in the water line to our condo building. They had detected another leak during the earlier visit and suspected that there were two. When our plumbers repaired the first leak they did determine there was another leak farther up the line.
