Description of Work: I am also a floorcovering contractor. Being a CFI Master installer, I am very picky about who I am comfortable recomending to my customers. Occasionally I get booked out too far in advance and Dennis is #1 on a very short list of contractors that highly recommend. He is very detail oriented, never compromises quality for speed and always seems to do little extras that others never think of. It also helps that he is another CFI Master Installer.

He gave me a fair written bid and did not "nickle and dime" me to death like so many other firms attempted. On the day of the install, he called to see if it was ok if he arrived 2 hours early which I welcomed. Due to the earlier time, I didn't have the rooms cleared of the light items but he and his assistant cheerfully pitched in. I had some chronic floor squeak areas he quickly solved. They were fast, careful with my home and carefully cleaned up after themselves. The carpet looks fantastic! Thank you so much for a job well done!

He was always on time and his time and cost estimates were right on the money. The results are awesome. Our manufactured home was pretty trashed. It looks really great now.

Description of Work: Installed bathroom linoleum. Leveled floor before installation. We removed two layers of the old linoleum. Dennis also installed new carpet and pad in the bedroom which included one seam. We removed the old carpet, pad, staples, and tack strips.

+ 0 moreI had Dennis and four other installers quote on purchasing and installing Kentwood prefinished engineered hardwood floors. Dennis's quote fell in the middle of the five I received. I was able to find the flooring at near wholesale prices myself so I made my decision based on the installation only. While Dennis was not the cheapest, the excellent reviews of his work on Angie's List and his professional demeanor gave me the most confidence that he would do a good job. Dennis and his coworker showed up on time everyday, kept the job site clean and finished the job on schedule. The quality of the workmanship was top notch. I have absolutely no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to hire Dennis again.

+ 0 moreDennis arrived on time for the estimate, listened to our concerns, gave a detailed and informed evaluation. Responded quickly with a fair and reasonable quote, then provided updates on his research for the wood and other materials. We had 2 challenges and he went above and beyond to satisfy us. (1) The living and kitchen area had existing maple wood; we needed the hallway to continue with the new maple wood at the same height without a bump or transition and he did a fantastic job. (2) We were moving into a condo and needed the approval of the neighbors below us to install the new wood, due to noise concerns. Dennis researched adhesive and padding products to place under the wood with official soundproofing ratings to help us gain approval from the neighbors, which also added the needed height. He kept in excellent communication with us every step and met our timeline by working extra on Easter Sunday - way above and beyond! The result is a beautiful maple floor, with a professional and finished look. This included special cutouts in the office to accommodate the cable wire. Dennis is very experienced and has great credentials. His assistant is also very experienced and professional. They work hard together and are easy to deal with. I highly recommend this company!

+ 1 moreDennis was very quick to respond to my request for a quote. We talked on the phone the same evening I sent out the request and he was over at my house the next day. The day after that, I received a quote. I also contacted two other companies about replacing my tile floors with hardwoods. One company didn't even respond and the other told me that the job was too small for them to do and they didn't think they would be able to match it very well. On the other hand, Dennis was very responsive and professional and explained that while the floors would not be a perfect match because of the age difference of the floors amongst other factors, he would get close. Dennis was fairly quick to start the job and the results are beautiful. The floors match well with the existing floors and now everything flows better.
Description of Work: They tore out my old tile floors in the entryway and powder room, replaced it with oak hardwood floors to match the 50 year old hardwoods in the rest of the house, and coated the floors with polyurethane.

He did only what was necessary and suggested a floor store for our family to choose materials. He will even offer ways to save (if you want to do a little legwork yourself). + 0 moreWhen Dennis White started our project, we had 41 boxes @ 20.9 square feet equals 856.9 square feet total. Minus the 75 square feet we have left equals 782 square feet. My guess is he had had least 17 square feet of "waste", which would have put him back down at 765 square feet, which is where the other contractor had based his bid on. The difference in cost between 765 square feet and 800 square feet Dennis charged us, is about $160 in labor and sales tax. Before the job was complete, I had another discussion with Dennis White about our three bedrooms which butted up against the new hardwood flooring he was installing. We have oak hardwood under carpet. His cost to refinish was $4.00 a square foot for anything 500 square feet or more. Under 500 square feet his cost was $5.00 a square foot. On January 14, 2013 I asked him for a written bid, it came back at 447 square feet @ $5.00 a square foot for $2,235. I sent him back an email, asking for the $4.00 a square foot rate, which would have been $1,788. He said no. I pointed out that using his pricing logic, a man with a 400 square foot job being charged $5.00 a square foot the cost would be $2,000.00 If his neighbor had a 500 square foot project, at $4.00 a square foot, his job would ALSO cost $2,000.00. You see what I am saying? Any job that falls between 400 square feet and 500 square feet should cost no more than $2,000.00. I closed with "Do the right thing". Dennis White's answer? "...I am going to have to reserve the right to refuse you service."
Description of Work: We had purchased our prefinished mahogany hardwood flooring through a pevious contractor who then went out of business. We had 39 boxes of flooring @ 20.9 square feet per box which equals 815 square feet. We had a previous flooring installer measure our job and said our job was 765 square feet, so we had enough material for the job with 50 square feet for waste. When Dennis White came in and gave us a bid, he measured it out as 800 square feet, and said we needed to order two more boxes of materials, which cost us approximately $400, and a lot of effort on our part. At this point in the story, you can tell we have plenty of material for this project. As he would lay out the flooring material and measuring and cutting he could check the color match to see how it would look. At the end of the second day of the three day install we looked at the flooring that had been installed so far, and my wife pointed out to me that there was two three foot boards in the main part of the living room that were lighter than all the rest. They stuck out like a sore thumb. Our mistake at this poiint was NOT making an issue of this before he started the next and final day. At the end of the third day, as we were doing the final walk-over of the job, my wife pointed out those two lighter colored boards as well as at least one other. We asked why he would have used those when we had so much extra flooring material, over three and a half boxes, 75 plus square feet. What could he do to fix the problem? His answer, charge us $70 per hour (Dennis didn't say how many hours it would take) and he could cut out the boards that we had the problem with. We weren't happy about it, but we paid him, and he left. It left a sore taste in our mouths. My advise to anybody using Dennis to install your wood flooring material, tell him that ANY piece that is a shade lighter or darker YOU want to see it BEFORE he nails it down. Even if it looks like you might not have enough material to complete a job, the odd colored pieces can be used in a closet or in our case could have been used under the fridge or the kitchen stove.

He arrived on time and did a professional job on floors that are less then perfect. We plan to use him again for the other rooms. + -1 moreWe contacted DW to get a quote on lifting our carpet in two rooms to remove the vinyl and old fir flooring underneath. Dennis was able to remove and store it temporarily with very short notice. After the vinyl was removed, he came back to install new subfloor, pad and carpet. It looks as good as it did before the removal. Other companies were contacted and told us that they weren't interested, so finding and working with Dennis was a pleasure. He was responsive, professional and did the job the way we wanted while staying within the bounds of what was realistic and reasonable. His service seemed fairly priced as well.
Description of Work: Removed carpet to expose vinyl flooring for removal by another company. Installed new subfloor and reinstalled carpet and felt pad.

This was our first major home improvement project, and we were nervous about the reviews we read online for the major flooring companies on the Eastside. We purchased the laminate from a store in Bellevue, but had heard terrible things about their installation process. We were very pleased that when we first called Dennis, he responded very quickly and came to our house the next day to give us a quote. He was very professional and friendly, and clearly knew what he was doing. We'd had two other estimates, and both other people seemed perplexed about putting laminate on the step between our living room and entryway- one guy told us we'd need to get a totally different hardwood material to put there (which would have looked terribile.) Dennis didn't seem bothered by that at all and said he could put the laminate on the stair with no trouble. He helped us figure out how much material to order, including the new baseboards we'd need (which we hadn't even thought about.) Dennis and another guy showed up at our house as scheduled for the install, and everything went very smoothly. The entire install took two days (about 600 sq. feet) and they left the house in great condition between the two days. Everything was left neat and tidy, all tools put out on the deck, away from our kids' curious hands. The next day they were there right on time, and by the time we got back from work we had brand new floors that looked fantastic! The workmanship on the install was excellent- the stair was done very well and the trimming and cutting was fantastic around the whole room. Everything was swept and clean, which we really appreciated. We would definitley reccommend using DW Installation for your floor install- get the material where you'd like, but go with an install team who is responsive, reliable and great at what they do.

+ 0 moreWe contacted a few contractors to install hardwood flooring in our house. We got Dennis' name from Angie's List. He came out and impressed our son immediately with his attention to detail. His price was not the cheapest, but his ratings in Angie's were excellent, so we decided to go with Dennis. We had issues getting our hardwood provider to engage us and procure the flooring, so Dennis inserted himself and attempted to escalate within the flooring company. After failing to get any further than we had with the source, he engaged another provider, procured the wood flooring and delivered it himself, (early, so the wood could acclimatize longer). He and Jeremy were very efficient and actually completed the job one day earlier than quoted, (3 days vs. 4). They cleaned up every night before heading home. They were very professional in their installation. The flooring looks fantastic and we are very pleased we went with Dennis.
Description of Work: Installation of real hardwood, (vs. engineered), flooring in our living room and downstairs, as well as the hallway and stairs. We did the demo of the carpet ourselves. We also did the baseboards ourselves.

+ -1 moreHaving your entire house re-carpeted at the same time is a big job and Dennis and his assistant worked quickly and efficiently over a 2 day period to get it done. I appreciated Dennis' cheerful, professional attitude. They got down to business the minute they walked in the house and worked diligently throughout the 2 days. They did a great job moving furniture out and then back in after carpet was done. Dennis noticed we had not put the metal piece between bathroom that we tiled (don't try it on your own folks) and carpeted hallway in the right place so he fixed it for us. We needed to replace some trim in our dining room which he did as well. I called on Dennis because he is my best friend's son-in-law. I knew he did good work, but more importantly, my husband and I felt comfortable leaving them in our home while we were gone. Having had a bad experience with another contractor, I knew Dennis was trustworthy. Love my new carpet and pad!
Description of Work: Dennis picked up carpet after I ordered it as planned; suggested appropriate padding and what I should pay and he has his assistant took out old carpet; painted over any spots from cat urine and installed new pad and carpet throughout my entire 2 story house. We moved the small stuff but they moved all the furniture out and then back when carpet was done.

Description of Work: I wanted hardwood flooring installed. I had 3 estimates from companies,including Dennis's company, and chose Dennis because I liked his attitude and his responsiveness. He came out the same day I called, measured, and I told I preferred the pre-finished wood, not an on-site finish, as I have asthma. He understood and suggested I go to Kelly Goodwin's showroom to look at the wood samples. Jeff there was extremely helpful, but I couldn't find the exact shade of oak I wanted. I'm happy to say, both Dennis and Jeff worked with me and I got exactly what I wanted within a reasonable amount of time. I am extremely pleased with the flooring and the workmanship that went into it. The floor is beautiful and it's because Dennis is a perfectionist, like me, and wants the job done right. I highly recommend Dennis and his helper, Henry, and I would absolutely use Dennis again.

Dennis White was professional and knowledgable about all aspects of hardwood flooring. Very patient and willing to provide as much information as possible. Very reassuring! Responded to all my phone calls immediately and showed up on time for scheduled days to work. Left the place spotless. There were a few areas that needed touch up that put the job out longer than expected but Dennis was so easy and polite to work with that it really didn't inconvience us terribly. The finished job was stunning and the exact color I wanted. He is willing to work with you on all aspects of bid and supplies to keep the cost competitive! I trusted his word thru out the whole process. Dennis and Henry were great!!
