Met Marcus for job, seemed reasonable and professional. Quoted a price via email which seemed reasonable. It was a bit non-specific so I asked to clarify that it included entire wing of house, and he replied that it did. I then signed a formal bid that he sent a couple days later. When he showed for job, he said his formal bid didn't include a bath in that wing of house even though his email indicated it would. I was not happy w/ this miscommunication and contradiction, but he indicated the fault was entirely mine and I agreed to pay the relatively small extra amount of $400. The job proceeded slowly but otherwise somewhat satisfactorily. Several small cracks appeared in the ceiling over the next couple months so I decided he could come address those when I was ready for a much smaller job in Dec. When he looked at the job, I showed him some spots that had been missed as well as the cracks, to which he replied that the cracks were not his fault but that he "would take care of them". The job went slowly and without good communication but I was OK with it, but the cracks were patched and primed only, standing out from the painted ceiling. When I inquired how that was "taking care of it", he said I would have to repaint the ceiling at my own expense. After all, the cracks weren't his fault! When I asked why he hadn't seen fit to possibly mention that I would have to repaint the entire ceiling myself for several hundred dollars after he "had taken care of it", he responded that it wasn't his job to babysit me. We argued in a controlled manner, but he was unbelievably rude and stubborn and I was quite agitated internally at his attitude toward a customer who had just spent $10,000 with him. There was absolutely no understanding or acknowledgment of my position which was just like our previous disagreement w/ the bath. I realized he had no intention of trying to see my side and we ended the conversation and I paid him in full, despite a couple minor details still not being finished. The work was alright, not top notch, and the price was reasonable. Just make sure you understand absolutely every single detail of the job in writing, because I am certain that if there is any discrepancy, it will be YOUR FAULT, not his. I would never use him again.

The initial phone conversation was in July 2013. My popcorn ceiling in the living room was coming off in patches. Because the condo was built in 1976, there was the possibility it was an asbestos popcorn ceiling. Marcus was very friendly and helpful in talking with me about his experience in how long asbestos was used and the remedies. He agreed with me that I should have the ceiling tested before I proceed with getting it fixed and said I could call him back when the test results came in. This call was very helpful. The ceiling test took about about 3 1/2 weeks. The results came back as non asbestos (luckily). So, I called Marcus back in August. I informed him the ceiling had been tested and the results came back as non asbestos. He did not want to come out and do an estimate. He wanted me to take pictures of the ceiling and email them and then he would give an estimate. This indicated to me that he was not very interested in the work; I may be wrong about that as we do live in a high tech world.
