They were courteous and professional. They just didn't do everything they promised in their bid. Specifically on one tree, they only cut 6-7 large branches all within one 25 foot section and didn't touch the rest of the tree (See red rectangle). Based on the bid, that tree ended up costing $100 per branch cut). The tree is roughly 120-150 feet tall and they didn't touch the top 50+ feet or the bottom 40 feet. The canopy wasn't thinned out from top to bottom as explained during the estimate visit. On the day of the work, the arborist was only on site for 10 minutes towards the beginning of the visit to point out a few branches, so it was left to the three hired branch cutters to decide what to do. The arborist was willing to come back afterwards to discuss my frustrations but wouldn't offer to thin out the top or bottom because they had cut so much in the small section and didn't want to risk the tree's health. No other effort to make things right was offered. I do feel better that most of the larger branches are no longer hanging over my house, but it seems they only did half the job promised.
Description of Work: Thinning canopy of two large Douglas Fir trees and removing large branches overhanging our house.

Provider did not do the work. Provider rescheduled from an earlier agreed date, and the new date was the only one available without waiting for several weeks. I rearranged my day to be available. But the crew did not arrive during the window of time and the owner did not promptly resonse to phone calls inquiring. When he did, he said the crew would arrive in ten minutes. It did not; it arrived more than an hour later, drove onto, parked upon, and blocked my neighbor's driveway, then walked around aimlessly reading a note. They never called me, appeared never to call the office for clarification. I wasted 2.5 hours waiting for these guys to arrive, then they backed out of doing the work! Very very poor communications, lack of commitment, and lack of professionalism. Words, schedules, communication mean nothing to this business. I do NOT recommend this poorly run company. It's a and quot;give you the run-aroundand quot; outfit. I can't speak for their work should they have performed.

Ian's guys were very efficient in cutting down the large fir. However, the job included two other parts that were not done satisfactorally. The stump grinding was not done evenly to 2 ft below grade and parts of the stump were only 1 ft below grade - which now makes it difficult to plant a new tree. Ian never offered to correct the stump grinding. I selected Ian because of the total job - and because his price for all three parts of the job was competitive. In addition to not making good on the partially completed stump grinding, he totally backed out on his commitment to deliver and plant a new 10 ft tree - saying after the fact that the $100 quote to deliver and plant a tree was ballpark only - and the actual cost would be more like $350! There's no way I would ever recommend Urban Arborists for any job - given the fact that they did not honor commitments and did not correct substandard work.
Description of Work: Job was supposed to include cutting down and removing a 100 ft diseased fir tree; grinding down the stump to 2 ft below grade; and delivering and planting a new 10 ft. tree that I would buy.

Urban Arborist was responsive and showed up to do the work when scheduled. They did a good job removing my apple tree. However, they did a really lousy job pruning my asian pears. They just lopped off the top 1/3 of the tree. I'm not sure what happened with that, perhaps a new employee was let loose on the pear treas. The trees looked really sad and silly this winter.
Description of Work: Removed apple tree and pruned pear trees.

Tree trimming done by Stu, world class professional lumber jack who climbed approx 50 ft up a fir tree and removed half dozen branches, then swung over to 30 ft cherry tree and did heavy pruning cutting back 8 large limbs to approx 15 ft. All tree limbs were cut and lowered by rope so there was zero collateral damage to other bushes or house, etc. Very impressed with Stu's capabilities. Lilard trimmed a very large (60 ft long x 15 ft high) laurel bush that hadn't been cut back in 3 years. Did a super job trimming vertically 3-4 ft. back to old growth and trimming 3-4 ft off the top- keeping a straight line on side and top. Guys were efficient, polite, easy to work with - asked me how they were doing, and cleaned up professionally. Ian's price was very competitive - and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. 5 star rating for sure! Would definitely use in future and recommend unequivocally to anyone needing major tree trimming and pruning.
Description of Work: Trimmed overgrown large laurel hedge (60 ft long x 15 ft high) on one side and top. Cut down 6-8 large branches approx 40 ft up in fir tree. Heavily pruned wild cherry tree and reduced it from 30 ft to 15 ft - and cut 6-8 very large limbs (each 6 in diameter). Blew roof clean of cedar needles and branches. Hauled away all debris - and cut up large cherry branches and left for firewood.

I would appreciate it if he would have told me if he was too busy. I felt like he could not be bothered to help me. He said he did not like to travel this far, but he came out last year. When he figured out it was something he could not help me with he never replied to me. Then I had to call him, and he said he was too busy.
Description of Work: He said he would come see the sick Douglas Fur on Saturday, said he couldn't come, and change it to Monday. Couldn't come on Monday and he said he would come out next weekend, which is a holiday weekend. Asked me to send photos and he couldn't tell what was wrong. He said it may need spraying, that he does not do. He said he could recommend someone, but said they were expensive.

This is the second time we've used this company. Ian again showed up promptly as planned, assessed the work we needed done, gave me an estimate and said he would get back to me regarding setting up a date to do the work. He called soon after to schedule the work. One of Ian's crew showed up on the scheduled date, removed all the trees and cleared all the debris. He returned later in the week (as planned) to grind the stumps. I am 110% satisfied with this company's work and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Had three large evergreens and a diseased ornamental maple removed and the stumps ground.

I can't imagine the job going any better. I will definitely use this company in the future.
Description of Work: We had several large evergreens removed, several trees pruned and all the stumps ground. Ian showed up on the appointed date and at the appointed time and was able to quickly assess the situation, provide an estimate and schedule the job. The crew showed up on time, were professional and courteous and did an excellent job of completing the work and cleaning up all the debris. I would highly recommend this company for tree pruning and removal and for stump grinding.

The quoted amount was slightly lower than other quotes I had received for this work. I decided to not have the limbs removed because an arborist from a different company informed me that the tree might be diseased. He said that removing the limbs could aggravate the problem, potentially causing more dead limbs or killing the tree. His advice was to monitor the tree for 6 months and reevaluate the situation then.
Description of Work: I wanted some dead limbs on a large monkey puzzle tree removed, and received a quote for the removal in the amount of $310.

The 4-man crew arrived as scheduled, the vines were cut down at ground level and from on top of the arbor. All the plant debris was hauled out to the alley behind the house, chipped and blown into the company's truck. A 2-man crew remained and spent 3/4 of an hour or so raking up the remaining plant waste and blowing all the dust and dirt from the job out of the yard. The whole job took a little less than 2 hours. Also, for no extra charge, the crew hauled away 3 bales of straw I'd used to protect some plants over the winter. The bales were water-logged and very heavy.
Description of Work: I needed to have some vines growing over an arbor removed. There were 4 distinct plants that over ten or so years had all grown together and were interwoven into a large, thick mat. The largest of the vines, an evergreen clematis, died over the winter. We decided to have all the vines cut down - a really messy job. Ian and his crew did a great job removing the vines and cleaning up afterward.
