I have few requirements for a contractor: communication, value, and expertise. He is tops in all three. Mike showed up when he said he would. He was punctual. His communication was excellent via text, phonen and email. He is super focused. Being used to flakes, I was blown away by his commitment to being on time. Frankly Mike's estimate was a little more than we wanted to spend. We got a second estimate from Lowes and it was DOUBLE. We decided to go with Mike and never looked back. He did cabinet resurfacing, did new doors, completely rebuilt existing drawyers and added a new drawyer across the top of one of the cabinets. He offered his advice, was flexible, and offered enhancements with no pressure. While it was more expensive than we had planned, it was worth every penny. Finally, the quality of the work is fantastic. the kitchen looks brand new. Our cabinets were old and had settled. Some angles were not square and some were no longer level. Mike worked around these issues and delivered a great product on time, on budget, and with features that we had not thought of. I'm pretty hard to please and I have to say I would recommend him to anyone looking for this type of work. When we sell our place and buy a new home, Mike will be among the first people we call. Reliable, a fair value, and a great result.

Katie White of Builders Showroom put together a complete job schedule in late December which had Mr. Smith doing demo work on Monday 01/09. By 9AM Mr. Smith was a no-show, saying he could not get to our house until 3PM at the earliest. The tile installer called to confirm he would be arriving around noon to begin prepping the kitchen floor. That left me to do the demo, missing an unscheduled half day of work. Once the tile kitchen tile work was done, Mr. Smith began cabinet installation. Following installation of the base cabinets, the counter people showed up to measure. When they left I began looking at the "sink" area and thought the cabinets looked funny. I grabbed the tile setters 10' level to use as a straight edge and sure enough the base cabinets had not been installed so they were not square and true. One edge of the sink base cabinet was sticking out by almost 3/4". I called Mr. Smith informing of his mistake and that he needed to correct the installation before the counter-tops were made. He did show the following day and was "baffled" as to how the mistake was made. I showed him how to measure from corner to opposite corner, both directions, to show that the "rectangle" was true. He acted like he had never seen that trick before. Counter-top people came back and remeasured. (Mr. Smith never thanked me for catching what could have been a very expensive mistake for him.) Next fiasco occurred in the bathroom. Counter-top people wanted to measure for the vanity so Mr. Smith temporarily installed the vanity shell. He guessed at the allowance for the height of the tile floor. He then installed a mirrored cabinet and a medicine cabinet. When the tile work was complete in the bathroom we called Mr. Smith to come and permanently install the vanity. He was busy on another job and wouldn't be able to get there until sometime late the next week. Well that wasn't going to work because the counters were going to be installed the next Tuesday. So I had to install the vanity. With the vanity and counters installed the plumbers showed up to install the fixtures. Problem - Mr. Smith "guessed" wrong on the final height of the vanity and there was not enough room for the fixtures. Off came the mirrored cabinet. When we called Mr. Smith and informed him the cabinet would have to be reinstalled, his comment was "I was paid to install the cabinet once, I don't do re-sets." OKAY! I reinstalled. I then looked at the medicine cabinet and the trim pieces had not been installed. Again Mr. Smith was busy so I had to remove the cabinet from the wall, glue on the trim pieces and reattach to the wall. About this same time the tile setter was ready for the microwave to be installed so he could finish the back splash. Guess who was too busy - yup, Mr. Smith. I ended up doing the installation. The final 2 kitchen cabinets arrived and Mr. Smith showed up and installed them. The final straw for us was an email stating he had forgotten to glue on one of the decorative panels to one of the last installed cabinets and when could he come over and pick up his final check. Fast forward to we end up in Small Claims Court and Mr. Smith is awarded his full amount. Two lessons to be learned here: 1) No matter how much you might "like" someone based on a first impression, READ THE CONTRACT! and 2) if you see yourself headed to SCC ALWAYS file a counter-claim. FINAL RESULT: Mama loves her new kitchen and bathroom. Highly recommend Katie at Builders Showroom and Ovi her tile installer. Would we ever hire or recommend Mike Smith and Cabinet Restyling again - NEVER.
Description of Work: Mike Smith of Cabinet Restyling was originally contacted for cabinet refacing in our kitchen. He quoted and the price was good. Job turned into a full kitchen and bath remodel. Canyon Creek cabinets were selected from Builders Showroom and Mr. Smith was contracted to perform the kitchen and bath demo and installation of the new cabinets.

Response from Cabinet Restyling Inc
I am unsettled by the comments submitted by the customer. I have owned Cabinet Restyling for over 20 years and take pride in all the positive customer feedback received until now. After the completion of the customer project, I received a nasty e-mail from him stating he would not pay the remaining 50% owed. His complaints were a complete surprise to me. In the many hours I spent with the custommer in his home, not once did he indicate his dissatisfaction. I believe the comments are just an unethical way to justify his not paying the balance of the money owed. The customer and I met in small claims court where I was rewarded 100% of the balance plus court costs. Many of his points and complaints are either false or exaggerations. Soon after returning from his loss in court, the customer, who obviously needed to vent, posted this bitter rant. I pride myself with good communication and honesty with my customers. My hope is that you, a prospective customer, will toss this untruthful, negative review aside. I would recommend reading the many positive reviews from clients of projects I have completed in my many years as a small business owner. Mike Smith

After changing out the fixtures and painting the powder room, updating the 20 year old vanity was the last step in completing the remodel. After agreeing on a price over the phone, Mike came out to measure and I chose the cabinet style and color at that time. About a month later, Mike did the installation in a half a day. I could not be happier with the outcome. It really made a huge impact on the overall look of our powder room. Mike is a nice, easy guy to work with. We'll definitely call him again when we're ready to tackle another project.
Description of Work: We had Mike reface our powder room vanity.

I spoke with Mike a few times in email after our initial phone conversation. He was very helpful in explaining what he did and what to expect. After working out some details, he made a site visit and took some measurements. We choose a color for the re-facing and discussed a new cabinet and a laundry stand conversation. Mike ordered the parts for the cabinet reface, but after our bathroom remodel was completed, we decided we liked the existing color. Mike left us the parts should we change our mind in the future. The laundry cabinet didn't work out like we hoped so we cancelled the order. This was no fault of Cabinet Restyling, we underestimated how large the sink we wanted to use was. When we make up our mind on this item, we will contact Cabinet Restyling again. The item we did have done was a wood framed washer/dryer stand converted into a finished product with drawers. We had to have it made because the stock stands were too tall, my wife couldn't see the laundry detergent tray on them. Now we have a nice finished stand that looks great and custom to our laundry space. We both like it a lot and feel it adds value to the space just by its appearance. This item probably took longer than Mike intended because it was not built as dimensionally perfect as a cabinet builder would prefer - it was built by framers. It was also covered with drywall "stuff" and Mike had to tack on a smooth clean surface over that to be able to produce a high quality finish. Even with the extra effort he stuck to his original bid. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Cabinet Restyling again for work such as this.
Description of Work: We hired Mike from Cabinet Restyling to build us a laundry cabinet, re-face our guest bath cabinet, and to convert a framed laundry stand into a finished cabinet with drawers.

Milke Smith has done several jobs for us over the past few years. This was a bathroom remodel andwe knew we would want him to make the 2-sink vanity. He was able to come and give a bid right away. I didn't even call anyone else as we know that his pricing is excellent for the beautiful work he does. He gave us a quote and then was totally accomodating while waiting for everyone else involved in our bathroom remodel to get their part done. When it was time for him to frame out the vanity, he coordinated smoothly with the granite countertop installer and the plumber. He was very patient and creative in helping me find exactly the right shade of cherry for the finish on the wood and the right design for the doors. We love the new vanity and everyone comments on how beautiful it is.
Description of Work: Helped me plan custom vanity. Built the specific size for our bathroom and my TALL husband. Installed vanity with 2 under-counter pull-out cabinets (one for each sink) and 3 vertical drawers in the middle. Cherry wood finish.

Mike was attentive, resourceful and provided good followup communication. Even without being asked, he had the cabinet makers send us a sample of a particular wood we were considering. I'd say he went the extra mile. Unfortunately, we decided to go with another company that offered a lower bid. I would recommend Mike, however, as I believe he would have done an excellent job.

The process went very well. I had quite a time deciding between new cabinets and refacing the current cabinets. In finally went with refacing in order to save a few hundred dollars and to ensure the footprint of the cabinets did not change because I wasn't planning on redoing the flooring. Mike was friendly and helpful to work with. He came when he said he would. He estimated installation to occur over two days. He had to come back a third day to do some finishing, but that was no problem. I'm very happy with the look and with the work that Mike did.

Mike is his name and he was fantastic. His prices were lower than any of the other quotes we had. He was just a really great guy to have in our house and also got us the best deals on all the stuff. I would highly recommend him to others. We spent $4500 on that work. He was really great on responsiveness and kept us up-to-date on everything before he installed it. He was easy to get a hold of.

It went well. Having one's kitchen boxed up and worked on is difficult. Mike is a very hard worker. He screened off the area with plastic sheeting and placed cardboard on the floor to prevent damage. He arrived on time daily and really got to the work to complete it as quickly as he could. Mike made many excellent suggestions prior to the job and gave us choices when he encountered small problems along the way. The finished product is beautiful. His counter top subcontractor quoted a price of $5000 for a Corian counter top. We went to Lowe's and purchased the same amount of counter top for $3000 and were able to get an upgraded color and a double sink included. We chose solid wood doors since currently they are the same price as a laminated door. The overall effect is amazing. I believe that cabinet refacing is a very green choice since you don't have to rip out your cabinets and throw them into the landfill. Also our older cabinets are larger than new cabinets. Unless one can afford custom cabinetry, it is difficult to find good cabinets that are not just built of press board. Our original cabinets were custom built in 1967, so the structure was very good and strong. All the estimators stated that for cabinet refacing to be most successful, the structure of the cabinet should be good. I would use Mike for work again.

Mike kept in touch with me about the status of the project and when he would be coming to do the work. He came when he said he would. He did a great job. When he initially installed the new drawers, the stain color did not match the existing cabinets very well. He brought it to my attention and said he would have them sanded and restained (which is did). I appreciate that I did not have to make a fuss about it. I have gotten a lot of comments about how good of a job he did matching the new to the old.
Description of Work: Mike removed one set of my lower kitchen cabinets and installed a new custom built set of wood cabinets. He matched the stain to the remaining cabinets. He also built new drawers for the remaining cabinets that matched the existing cabinets.
