I decided to try local since they are new in town and what a mistake. The tech came to my home with his son, vacuumed the stove and that was it. I asked if he was going to check the pipe outside, take the inside apart and clean it (easy to do as we have done it before as well as the other company we used in the past for regular maintenance) , check the gasket around the door window (that was frayed and needed to be replaced) and clean the door window just to name a few things and he said no to all of them. I wasn't sure what I was paying for and when I told my husband he only vacuum the stove he said don't pay them. This happened on a Friday, on Saturday a stop payment was placed on the check. I called the owner first thing Monday morning to explain what happened and tell her about the stop payment. I agreed I owed for the vacuuming but didn't think it was worth $160.00. She said she would be charged for the check and I agreed to pay her for that and agreed I owed her for the vacuuming. She said the tech was confused and thought he was making a service call not maintenance call, which I thought was strange because he never even turned the stove on to see if it was working! I had unplugged it for him before he arrived and he never touched the plug. Don't service people usually turn on the item they are servicing to see if it is working before or after they work on it? The owner was getting upset and insulted me. I told her I agreed to pay something but she said she would bill me her bank charge and be done with it. This happened the middle of July, then today I received a bill for the $160 plus the stop payment fee (which I owe) with a note stating the tech did what he was supposed to do and that I told her he never vacuumed! What? The bill said if I didn't pay it in full it will be sent to collections. I'm so glad I recorded the whole conversation to have proof of what we discussed and what I was told. The other thing I thought was interesting is I advised the tech the firepot cleaning rod (which is pulled to drop the ashes into the firebox) was stuck and hard to pull (probably needed WD 40 or whatever they use) he said it only works when it is hot because metal expands when it is hot, when cold it is harder to pull, huh? This made no sense to me because the manual says "wait for the stove to be in complete shutdown" and their competitor made sure it was easy to pull when it was cold (part of their regular maintenance I'm sure). Unfortunately for the owner I will never use her services for the pellet stove or spa (which needs repairing). If she had admitted the tech did not do a complete job I could have understood but to say he did when he had not even done the basics in my opinion is bad business. I am a fair person and never asked her to waive all charges as the tech at least vacuumed the stove. Very disappointed as I love to give referrals, in this case no referral will ever be given.
