PERFECT! We were new to the Peninsula and had called several companies for the complete new system. We needed a company we felt comfortable dealing with, punctual and professional. We were also dealing with the City Conservation programs and needed to hire someone that was willing to work in concert with those restrictions. Peninsula Heat stepped up from day 1 and never let us down. Several of the other Contractors didn't even bother to provide a written bid...or anything in writing for that matter. The job was seamless, no last minute gotcha's and after 6 years they continue to treat us as though we are their only customer. I highly recommend Peninsula Heat for any and all heating/AC needs.

My home, built in 1962 was heated by oil, using a long defunct Iron Fireman furnace. Because of the price of oil, we've been heating primarily with wood for the past decade. As I'm getting older and, felling trees, stacking wood, and cleaning up after it, is getting older too, I decided to look at replacing my furnace with a heat pump. I spent months researching and finally settled on 3 high end units made by Carrier, Lennox, and Trane. As they were handled by 3 different and well known area contractors I called all but the Lennox installers directly. The Lennox contractor I contacted through Costco so that I could qualify for their rebate. All three companies responded quickly and professionally, sending out a representative to do heat calculations and prepare a quote. One company came back with a quote of around $18k for a 5 ton Trane air handler and heat pump. Another had a 4ton Carrier pump and a 3 ton air handler @ $16k. Peninsula Heat gave me the low bid at a bit less than $12k but with both a 3ton pump and a 3 ton air handler. All of the bids were for inverter driven, variable speed pumps. All rated at the top of their class for efficiency. I did some follow up research and asked questions of all of the companies. They all responded professionally but I liked Peninsula Heat's rationale and approach to the problem. I was, however, a bit nervous about the lower capacity of the pump given the other bids I received. After much deliberation I finally went with Peninsula. My ultimate decision was based on price, responsiveness of the company, and reputation of the product they sold. ( all about equally reviewed ). The unit I chose was the Lennox XP25. A unit that was new on the market but extensively tested prior to release. Some 200 units had been seeded around the country for 2 years previously for testing. This, after 2 years of lab testing. As it turned out, mine was the first XP25 Peninsula had installed. Lennox was behind schedule on the deliver to Peninsula, which is the reason for a B grade in punctuality. So not really Peninsula Heat's fault. In fact, in every other respect they were remarkably punctual. The work was completed quickly and professionally. Some of it took significantly more time than they had anticipated but there was never any mention of additional charges. They were very helpful in explaining the system and its operation. When the first cold weather came and the unit didn't perform as well as I expected they were extremely responsive in dealing with the issue. It turned out that powering up the thermostat before engaging the heat strips kept the thermostat from recognizing and using the heat strips under extremely cold conditions. It was a minor addendum in the installation manual that was overlooked when the system was hooked up. After it was corrected the system operated flawlessly and remarkably quietly through some very cold conditions. It kept the house uniformly warm and almost always, within .5 degrees of the set point. At the end of the winter I reviewed my electrical bills and found that my heating costs were actually less than with wood at winter prices of $180 per full cord, dry. The house was significantly warmer as well. I'm extremely pleased with the installation, the heat pump, and the service I received from Peninsula Heat. I would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Did a heat calc on my home, made a recommendation, gave a quote for removal of old equipment and installation of a new system. Installed Lennox XP25

It could well have been just my interaction with the technician who brought out a dead mouse on the filter just to tell me that I had been remiss at changing the filters. In my opinion he should have located how the mouse got into the heating system in the first place. I would not really like to rate an entire company on just on person.
