 + 4 moreThis was the second major remodel we had Darrell and crew do for us. We downsized and purchased a house that had been a rental for 6 years. We needed to make it "ours" so we had the flooring removed (vinyl and carpet), removed the existing island and replaced with a custom one that the guys built, new quartz countertops, laminate flooring, new front door, new slider, whole house painted inside and out including staining our fiberglass garage door to give it a "wood" look. We were very happy with the whole project. Darrell and his crew are "good people". Very courteous, punctual and finished the job sooner than we expected which was very much appreciated. We would definitely hire them again.

 + 7 moreEverything went well. From the total demolition of our old kitchen, to a complete redo, took 3 weeks. Gone are the lowered ceiling and fluorescent lights, well-worn dark cabinets, double sink (which I hated), blah-countertops/backsplash, and worn-out floor. We now have the kitchen that we wanted, with beautiful cabinets, lovely granite countertops and tile backsplash, much-improved lighting, nice floor, and an above-the-range microwave. Darryll and Heather are nice to work with, and gave us ideas when we had none. Their crew was very professional as well. We would be advised each day what they planned to do on the following day. We love our new kitchen. Hopefully we can have them back next year for a total bathroom remodel.

 + 9 moreAs first hand observers, we noted that the different DH crews and subcontractors exhibited the highest standards of workmanship and professionalism. Communication was excellent, beginning with the day we called Darrell to inquire about remodeling our home (he and Heather came the next day) and then email requests/updates with Heather both before the renovation started and throughout the project. We appreciated Heather's periodic emails indicating what would happen that day or week and then occasionally peek in on the action as it occurred. In general, it was a good interactive process that led to us to achieving the project we intended. The whole project was done in twelve weeks with minimal disruption while we stayed in the house. Owing to a handful of change orders to address items beyond what we'd originally scoped, the remodel was completed at 105% of the original bid. A lot of credit goes to Darrell and Heather for sending us to Creative Cabinet Designs and to Standard Floor and Paint to get our design choices and materials made before they offered us a bid. The upfront steps took us almost a month, but decision-making in that order gave us confidence in a more realistic bid from DH West Coast. Please take this review as a resounding recommendation for DH West Coast. They will be the first contractor we call should we take on another remodel project.
Description of Work: DH West Coast Construction (Darrell and Heather Hensley) recently completed a kitchen/dining/living room renovation for us and we are beyond pleased.  I can honestly say that the results exceeded our initial vision.  The job was to transform 5 smallish living areas (living and family rooms, kitchen, dining, and breakfast nook) into 3 larger areas (living, dining, and kitchen) which involved a major reorganizing of a 750 sq ft area as noted below.  We lived in the house (but moved everything out of the area to be remodeled) throughout the process. Since we were home during work hours, we appreciated the ability to be consulted when decisions were needed.  That said, all the workers were very friendly and ultra respectful of our home and privacy. Our remodel included: • raising the floor of a sunken living room to merge it with a dining room and expand that area as a media center and living space • converting a family room/dining nook into a spacious kitchen • the complete demolition and removal of the existing kitchen to convert it to a functional dining area • installation of a new electrical panel in the garage to support additional circuits and to meet current code requirements (house was built in 1979) The first step involved demolishing a false ceiling in the old kitchen, a couple of walls, all flooring, and a fireplace.  We replaced a small, at capacity 1970's electrical panel with a new spacious panel with room to grow in the future if needed.  A new and much larger kitchen was created from scratch in the old family room. Plumbing for the new sink and refrigerator locations was installed, custom cabinets, quartz countertops, range hood ventilation using the old chimney flue, and lots of on-site tile cutting while the crew laid the tile floor and created a beautiful travertine tile backsplash. The new kitchen also needed a window replaced to match the height of the new counter.  This window change inspired the replacement of an existing custom triangular window above it.  Another window alteration was to rebuild the custom bay window over the sink in the old kitchen, so that it became a bay window seat.  The two bay window seats were tiled in travertine to match the backsplash. The window alterations required exterior work to match the cedar siding.  All the remodeled areas required electrical and lighting upgrades, drywall installation, taping and sanding, texture, and painting.  A number of other details taken care of included replacing and/or painting trim work around windows, new baseboards, carpeting, and installing electrical/lighting wall plates and drawer pulls.

 + 1 moreDarrell Hensley and crew painted the interior living areas of our 2 story home. Darrell came immediately when I called for a bid, showed up when he said he would, emailed a bid within 2 hrs. He checked up again with us a day or two later to see if we had made a decision-came up with a very reasonable bid after we also received bids from 2 other competitors. He is from Selah, so we were glad to find a Selah area business, and resident. His staff performed as promised, showed up as promised with the correct color of paint and all supplies. They bid the job as 2 days, but were able to complete it in 1 day-with great cleanup and great care with the detailing (patching, trim, etc). The entire job was A+.

 + -1 moreI contacted DH West Coast to have them replace some damaged sheetrock, in my basement Mediaroom, on July 14th. DH called back to make an appointment to see exactly what needed repaired, appointment was scheduled for Thursday morning. They showed up, on time and Darrel said if I wanted them to do the work they could get started Friday morning. DH West Coast Construction showed up, on time, Friday morning and Darrel introduced me to his son Jason who was the lead man of the crew that consisted of Jason, Cody and Keith. these young men were fast and efficient. A very good testament to a 3 generation run family business. I also had DH West Coast add two electrical outlets, in the garage ceiling for 2 new garage door openers. Their electrician, Victor, was fast, efficient and friendly. I, without any doubt, will be having DH West Coast Construction doing more remodeling of my house now and in the future. I highly recommend DH West Coast Construction.

 + 2 moreConstruction was completed in excellent time. Good quality to work. Exterior painting was completed in timely manner. Quality work was OK. House preparation for painting was not completed sufficiently, therefore when house was painted there were areas that needed to be redone. Final inspection of work was needed by homeowner. Business owner was very pleasant and had areas redone without hesitation. Although contractor and employees were very pleasant and redid work without hesitation, it was of concern for homeowner to have to inspect to establish quality of work. Therefore, since the homeowner's inspection established quality of work, small issues have been identified since work was completed. The issue that I identified was that employees for house prep were young kids that were not focused on task that they were charged to complete. Nexttime, I will inspect house prep with a closer eye and not assume that the contractor has an established standard of work quality.

 + -1 moreThey did an excellent job of detailed bidding and offered construction and design ideas that we used. They have a good sense of style, color and understood our vision of the project. The description of our experience is that once they started our project, they got several other projects going at the same time and did not maintain an efficient completion time. We think the project took far longer to finish than we had planned. The end result was excellent but we think it could have been done quicker. The other suggestion was that they should do a better job of advising the customer when the project deviates from the original bid. We made several change orders to the work that added significantly to the final price of the job. It was our decision, we made the requests and they provided us with a detailed itemized invoice at job completion that was accurate but we would liked to have known in advance how far over budget we were getting. We would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for quality remodel and construction work.

The contractors they employed were all exceptional in their own areas of work. Darrell and Heather were very knowledgable in all aspects of the work that was being done and were helpful when decisions needed to be made. We couldn't have asked for better contractors to work with. The quality of all the work done was outstanding. The only displeasure was a result of the completion date being changed several times.
Description of Work: DH West Coast Construction did a complete remodel of the main floor of our 1925 historic home. Although there was no structural changes to the home, there was a complete demolition of the interior of the home. The kitchen cabinets were not removed but upgraded and added onto. Original hardwood floors were rescued and refurbished as well as new hardwoods installed to match the originals. New baseboards, crown molding and paint throughout. Two bathrooms completely remodeled from top to bottom. Many electrical, plumbing and carpentry upgrades were done as well.

He was always on time or early, and put in extra time sometimes leaving later than was expected. Rebuilding a room from old odd shaped beams in the walls and flooring, he made the bathroom a beautiful room. There was a lot of work to be done, and I was impressed with his work as well as his friendliness. I would certainly recommend him to anyone who was looking for remodel.

Description of Work: We have used DH West Coast Construction for our home repairs since 2010. We recently had our metal shop painted, replaced 3 double set doors in carport storage with steel exterior doors. The metal shop looks brand new and the doors are awesome. DH West also remodeled master shower by removing old fiberglass one piece shower, enlarging shower with tile to ceiling, new fixtures and paint. Very up to date now and larger.

 + 0 moreWe couldn't be happier. Came out far beyond our expectations. The cabinets and mirrors they found for us are so unique and perfect. We never saw anything like them in our searches. They advised us on some of the faucets, etc that we'd already selected and pointed us to ones they thought we'd be happier with - and they were right. Who knew a contractor would go shopping with you! They are very responsive, great to deal with. This is important because we live right now about 2 1/2 hours away from the condo that was being remodeled. It was never a problem. The finishing touches are wonderful, and all Heather's doing. Well maybe Darrell, too. We are not home decorators and had little idea what we wanted, except 2 bathrooms and to get rid of the hideous carpet. They cleaned up everything beautifully, too. They nailed it. We'll definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled bathroom and made 2 bathrooms out of the one. So two complete sets of everything - plumbing, sinks. Toilets. Tubs. showers, Flooring, tile, lighting, walls, painting, everything. It's an older condo so it involved extra work as well. Both bathrooms are plenty big, it's just amazing. Darrell and Heather helped us select much of what was needed and advised us on what would work. We couldn't have done that without them, we were lost. Cost includes all the fixtures, cabinets, paint and so forth also

 + 1 moreNo complaints as far as the work went. Work was completed in a reasonable time frame. Extra care was made to keep every thing clean. One thing to watch out for; An estimate for the remodel job was given and everything that was on the estimate was completed without question. Be VERY careful about any deviations from the original estimate! Make sure that everything discussed is on the estimate. Additional work can jack the final bill up by a significant amount.

 + 4 moreWe had done a complete remodel before and the biggest problem with the contractor was the lack of communication and their failure to show up on a regular basis. Based on family and friend's experiences, that's pretty common. Darrell was nothing short of awesome. He kept in contact with us regularly, he followed up on all my emails, he answered our questions quickly, we added several things not on the initial contract and he provided us with estimates promptly and did everything we requested. He brought in an outside carpenter, plumper and electrician and they all did excellent work. Darrell kept checking in to be sure we were satisfied with the work being done and he was quick to resolve any issues we had. Darrell provided us with estimates on all the work we requested. There were no $$ surprises. The final bill actually came in a bit lower than my total based on the estimates. If you are looking for someone you can depend on, who will communicate effectively, who is conscientious about the quality of his work, who is upfront and honest, who is concerned that you are satisfied with the work being done, then Darrell is the guy for you!
Description of Work: Good grief, what didn't he do. Some things were done by his crew, other things were done by people he brought in. Painted the entire interior and exterior of home, installed wood flooring, replaced all bathroom facets, toilets and shower heads, added railings to outside deck, painted and sealed outside deck, installed a garbage disposal, water filtration system in the kitchen, added hardware to kitchen and bathroom cabinets, replaced and painted baseboards, replaced seals on outside doors.
