I bought a new home and as part of this process the seller was supposed to fix the drain lines. However shortly after I took ownership the drain lines were backed up and water was flowing back right next to the house. I had a few bids to clean them out but all of them suggested since the corrugated pipes were all backed up that we just replace them with a PVC pipe. Wu Construction was almost the same price to run all four new lines as other companies were to do just one side of the house. The property has about 100 feet from the house to the street so this was a large length of a ditch and pipe to run. I spoke with Victor many times about different options but he continued to assure me that this would solve about 80% of any drainage issues for the property and that the remaining 20% would be much more involved up to installing a crawl space drainage system. I thought that I wanted a perforated PVC pipe to carry additional water from the ground but he continued to convince me over multiple emails that this would not help even though this would be a much more expensive project. It is great that he was so truthful and honest to not have me spend significantly more for something that I did not need. Due to how much cheaper his bid was than other companies I was nervous that I would get a sloppy job compared to other companies. His team came to my house and worked all day to dig new ditches and lay the new pipe. The crew was very careful with the earth as they dug it out for the new pipe lines and carefully placed it back in the trenches. After a few weeks the trench were mostly grown back with grass. The crew were very professional and did a very good and clean job. They even connected my existing sump pump to the line with the same bid. The crew worked until dusk attaching everything and cleaning up. I would defiantly contact them again for additional drainage issues. I was very impressed with the quality of the work that they did for this project. After few months and through the winter may crawl space is much dryer and the ground around the property has dried up and is not so soggy. I really appreciate Victor's experience and convincing me not to do a large project that was not needed although he did say if I really wanted him to do it he would. His recommendations seem to be correct so far and I would defiantly use Wu Construction again in the future.
Description of Work: Installed all four new drain lines from the house the ditch at the edge of the property near the street.

They were extremely professional. A three man crew spent roughly eight hours performing the job. I had other bids from other contractors (and even a bit of work performed by another), and all of the other contractors left me feeling like they were just guessing at the problem, and might not be capable of doing the job. Not Wu Construction. While the quoted price was a bit higher than some of the others, I felt confident that the job would be completed correctly, and it was.
Description of Work: Wu Construction investigated a drainage problem where the storm drain/footing lines appeared to have a backup causing water to enter the crawl space of our home. They dug out our lines and discovered a big section blocked entirely by roots from nearby trees. Then, they replaced the problem sections with new piping and made sure water was flowing to the city storm drain in the street.

I had had an issue with my basement smelling of mold and since I was trying to sell my house I knew this was going to be a big issue for some buyers. A "mold expert" had visited the house and told me I needed to dig an 8foot deep trench along most of my back wall which would have cost probably $20000. I could not afford that, and was doubtful of their diagnosis anyway. I was recommended to call Wu Construction to get a second opinion. I can't remember the guys name but he came out within a day of my call, surveyed the area for thirty minutes with me, and came up with a much more reasonable explanation for the basement smell (there was a roof drain nearby that was probably not handling all the water). He recommended a much smaller trench in the same area, which cost less than a tenth of the previous estimate, and the issue has been resolved. These guys were fast, efficient and highly professional.

WU Construction did a good job on the crawlspace drainage but a terrible job on the onsite drainage problem I have on our property. We live on a hill and a lot of the water from above us ends up on our property. WU Construction was contacted through our RE broker to fix the problem. Because the area we were trying to fix was a low spot, the drainage lines would have to be dug down fairly deep to make sure the water would drain. I was told that the workmen would use a transit to set the pitch to make sure the lines would drain. The job was completed and after the first heavy rain, the water level at the catch basin at the low point was about 7 inches above the grate. WU was very responsive and told me the job was under warranty. They came back out and dug the drain lines a little deeper and afterward, during a fairly heavy rain the level of the water in the catch basin would stay about 1" below the grate which is a couple of inches above the top of the drain pipes. The ground downhill from the collection lines were always very soft. Now, after a couple of years, the ground downhill from the collection lines gets so soft and muddy after a rain, you can't walk on it. I therefore have just contracted to have this area redone to solve this drainage problem. We found that the lines put in by WU did not have any pitch so unless it rained hard, the water did not move which meant the area did not have any drainage. The contractor for the new system used a laser to make sure the lines had a constant pitch. The lines ended up having to be dug down about 40" to keep a decent pitch to drain the water, whereas the deepest the lines went that WU put in were less than 24". I would not or could not recommend WU to solve onsite drainage problems. The salesperson from WU seemed very competent but it did not filter down to the men doing the work. I could recommend them for crawlspace drainage problems.

Victor and his crew are extremely knowledgeable and experienced. I called Wu Construction on the recommendation of my home inspector after learning that my house was settling and causing extensive issues in my kitchen. I called Victor on a Saturday and he came out on Sunday morning to look at the problem. He quickly identified the cause of the problem and outlined a very clear plan at raising the house back up to level. He over designed and over-engineered the fix so that I would never have any issues even 30-40 years from now. He went above and beyond what he said he would do (at no additional cost) simply because he wanted to make sure it was done right and that I was happy. Customer service, quality work and a very fair price made me a very happy customer. I hope I don't have to but if I ever have any other issues with my house, I'll be calling victor Wu first to get his opinion. He's got 30 years of experience and knows how to get things done. Very satisfied.

They had to remove part of a concrete pad and reroute the drain line underneath. That line was connected to a new storm drain line that ran 70 feet to the property line. The concrete pad was repoured, completing the job. The concrete pad supported our upper deck which had to be temporarily supported until after the new concrete was installed and cured. The workmanship was excellent. The mechanics were very good. The bid seemed competitive to other bids I received. The office was slow to complete the billing but the job went well and the issue was solved.

I am a real estate broker and have used Wu construction many times. Many of my clients have crawlspace issues, especially water problems that requires drainage solutions. I have always referred them to Wu Construction and their bids were always competitive and their work excellent. For this client some of the floor joists under the kitchen were poorly constructed originally, which caused the kitchen floor to 'bounce'! Wu Construction repaired it and now no more bouncing! They also cleaned up the debris commonly found in all crawlspaces. Job began and finished on time and they stayed true to their estimate. I will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing any work done in the crawlspace.

They were courteous, informed, professional and did everything they promised.
Description of Work: I was experiencing flooding in my basement. I had had one bid which recommended that the only solution would be to dig out around my foundation and conduct expensive repairs ($10k+). Wu Construction explained that my gutters and downspouts were probably overwhelmed by the rain and that the original drainage from 1913 was probably partially clogged. They recommended a French Drain at a cost of less than $2k. It seems to have worked!

**updated review 12/2/14** Owner, Victor, contacted me after seeing the review on Angie's List and explained that for one reason or another he never saw my prior attempts to get in touch with him. He earnestly made offers to right the situation. Unfortunately, couple of months ago I got fed up looking at a muddy backyard, and paid for to have lawns ripped out and put down pea gravels instead; therefore, there is no longer anything left to right... However, I'm willing to give him benefit of doubt so increased rating to a C. **Original review below** Going with Wu's Construction made me feel like a total sucker! Almost 1 year later since work "completed". Retaining walls are doing okay, some parts are no longer leveled. Visible but minor and tolerable. Our primary concern - muddy backyard was NOT solved at all despite implementing Victor's recommended solution. Drain was put in during Winter. Backyard was still just muddy by end of Spring, even with sporadic rain only. Before work begin, Victor was very responsive via email, text, or phone call. He said repeatedly that his company guarantee their work for 12 years - "your drain problem will be my drain problem" was his exact words. As I realized his recommended solution didn't solve the problem. I emailed, text, and left voicemail. NO ANSWER from Victor what so ever. After several attempts, I gave up. I could see through multiple drain traps that water is NOT flowing at all! I don't need to speculate what went wrong or if they knew what they were doing. Bottom line is, I paid for a drainage expert's recommendation to SOLVE THE PROBLEM, pay to implemented his recommendation, and the problem was NOT solved, and the owner of Wu's Construction did not keep his own service guarantee. Had he (the expert) told me, backyard would stay muddy no matter what drains he put in, I would had opted to NOT proceed with work at all. I felt terrible (like a total sucker for a scam) for months. $10,000 isn't pocket change. It was a sore reminder every evening when I come home to stare at that muddy backyard. ps. Wu Construction's workers worked very diligently. The buck stops at the owner, Victor - who also gave workers technical directions and oversaw the implementation.
Description of Work: rebuild a few short retaining walls with concrete blocks from rotting railroad ties. Solve the backyard drainage issue (it was muddy all the time), by putting in French drains (as recommended by owner, Victor). This is our primary concern.

I felt like one system was too involved and the other might work. Neither plan really targeted the area I was concerned about, although Victor thought they would solve that issue. After getting other estimates I found someone I thought understood the problem better. I was also concerned that I couldn't find this company on the BBB site.

Victor came out that day. He was very professional, fast, and tidy. His bid arrived via email that evening. We scheduled for a couple of days out, and he called the next day to say he could do it sooner. The men (2) came and were very tidy, laying plastic down, wearing booties, blocking the crawl space door (which opens to my living room!). I don't remember much dust coming into the house. His men were not aware of needing the vents, but called victor, said they would be back in an hour, and finished the vents. The whole thing took only 2 hours! Victor came by twice to check in. When I received the invoice (again over email) and remarked on how quickly they finished the work and how high the hourly cost was, he took 100.00 off the bill saying he guarantees the price, and never knows what he might get into when digging etc...
Description of Work: Clean out of crawl space including digging out a huge root that was causing moisture, removing two layers of vapor barrier and replacing with a new barrier. Cutting additional vents into 2 separate crawl spaces. I later had them come back to give me an estimate on providing more support to the foundation, but have not had the work done yet,

A gentleman came out to my property and was very knowledgeable about my issue with the landscaping and drainage and how it is being effected. He came up with a great solution by proposing to build a retaining wall and yard drainage around my front and side yard. They crew came out earlier than expected and started right away. They were very kind and helpful. Despite my plants and garden in the side yard, they were very neat and careful. They cleaned up very well and it looked amazing. The solution seems to be working great and I have had no problems with anything. The best bang for the buck by far. I had 2 other estimates and Wu Construction impressed me with the expertise. They also beat out the other contractors by quite a bit. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to have drainage, retaining walls, or foundation repair done.

Victor came out early one Saturday morning on short notice and did a thorough walk-through on our project. He noted that the foundation had not moved in more than 60 years so he suggested we add four proper footings to support several places where the load points had not been adequately provided for but other than that said it was in good shape. He gave us a quote of about $5000 all in to do the repairs and said it would take about a week. This was in stark contrast to several other quotes we've had that were $15-$20,000 for much more elaborate solutions. Victor thought those were completely unnecessary and explained why based on his years of experience. We went with Victor and his crew did a superb job, delivered on time and on budget. They even added some additional work that they found when they dug it up and didn't charge us extra.

The crew was very punctual and professional. They really know drainage and do a good job. They left the job site very clean and carefully put back the landscaping elements that were removed to access the work. After the ground has settled I will use them again to fine tune the drainage in the fall when the rains start. We should have guessed drainage would be a problem in a subdivision called "Spring Hill" lol.

Victor Wu came to our house to estimate work that would need to be done to repair a crack in our foundation. After carefully inspecting the damaged spot and checking for other cracks in the foundation, he recommended that we do the repair ourselves. He explained that it was easy to do with repair material available at hardware stores, and he didn't feel it would be honest to charge us for work we could do for a fraction of the cost. I appreciate Victor's honesty and will definitely call Wu Construction if the need arises in the future.

I first met Victor of Wu Construction in December 2012 to look at short-sale house I bought. The house had obvious signs of water intrusion and there were several foundation wall cracks in the garage. I wanted to make sure the foundation was sound and would be good for the next 7 to 10 years when I'm ready to do major work on it. Wu Construction had a lot of very positive reviews on Angie's, and I wanted Wu's opinion on it. Victor came by to give it a thorough examination, and told me that foundation-wise it was fine and would not need any immediate attention, but he recommended that structurally it should be completely redone for the long-term. Even though his feedback meant no work for him on the house in the near future, he was willing to speak the truth, and from that point on I knew I could trust him. In April I listed my Greenlake house for sale and got an offer over list price. The buyer instead of using a licensed inspection person, used a family construction guy to perform the inspection, who told her that my house had major foundation issue and needed $30K to fix. The buyer backed out after I declined to drop price outside of offering $8K credit back. For my own peace of mind, I needed to know whether the house indeed had severe foundation problem, so I asked my agent to contact Wu Construction to examine it - I was vacationing in Quebec at the time. Victor came out and told us that there was no major foundation issue, but the footing, post and beams had to be done/redone, and I was quoted $5100 for the work and guaranteed to pass professional inspection. The work started as soon as I got back into town, and finished promptly and nicely, and the basement looks so much nicer than before. The crew did a great job cleaning up the site each time they left for the day, and I so much appreciate Wu Construction's integrity, professionalism, and quality of work. With the house vacant and a 'tainted' back-to-active-on-inspection, we decided to re-rent the house, and will list again a year from now. I will update about inspection then. Thank you Victor and Wu Construction! - May

I ended up finding out that the person who sold me the house had covered up a lot of problems in order to get the house on the market. Wu Construction was one of the preferred contracts of by realtor at the time. I had them out to make a number of repairs, which they failed to do. They ended up putting the downspouts on backwards. They ended up just guessing and guessing at what the problem was at not actually solving it. They kept taking more and more money from me. I ended up having to take them to court and it was in deposition that I found out that they have no training program whatsoever for their workers. They just hire them and send them out to people's homes. None of the workers spoke any English and the only person who did was the estimator. He was very nice and I didn't have any clue that I was stepping into the mess that would ensue. I really hope that nobody else has to go through the mess that I did with this company.
Description of Work: They were out to make repairs on a home that I had just bought. They were supposed to repair cracks in the foundation, waterproof the basement, install a sump pump, among other necessary repairs.

Response from Wu Construction
[member name removed], I really appreciate your review. Though it was matter of more than 6 years ago. I am still feeling shame of what we did to your house. However, I would like to remind you just by what you said in the reviewed, the major problem you had was that your sellers intentionally hire something to you by constructing a wall to hide the leak. We believe in people, did not thought about that when we did the estimate. By the way, you did not take a lot of money again and again, less than $1800 for all the trips to spent on this job. Thank you again, now we have new management for last four years. our reviews tell the real stories. Thanks a million
