About us

Workbench Building + Design LLC is a small design-build firm. Adam, the owner, moved to Seattle in 2003 to obtain a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Washington. After completing his degree, and working for nearly 3 years as an Intern Architect, he was ready to combine his knowledge of design with his other lifelong passion: making things with own two hands. Workbench Building + Design LLC was born and it has been a pleasure to own and operate ever since.

I can't say enough good things about Dean and his crew. Among the highlights: - Structured approach to project estimation and management. Dean was very structured, detail oriented and thorough. He gained my complete confidence in his approach. - Cost competitive. I felt like I got great value for what I paid - Attention to detail. The finer touches are really one of Dean's strong suits. The molding, tile, paint, doors, etc are all gorgeous - Strong communication skills ... Dean kept me apprised of status continuously. I always knew where he was at in the process and any issues he was encountering. Again, Dean was amazing. I know how hard it can be to find a contractor that is trustworthy and competent. He is now my de-facto contractor for anything I need done around my house.
Description of Work: Dean Burgess remodeled our previously unfinished basement. The scope of work included: Updating the existing attached garage: - tore down walls and built new walls with a new garage configuration - designed and built custom french garage doors Bathroom installation: - Created a 1/4 bathroom where no previous bathroom existed - Installed tile Living room: - Created a family/entertainment room - Built a coffered ceiling - Executed engineering work to balance load across the ceiling - installed in-wall speakers - painted - installed a window - installed all finishing touches (molding, etc) - hung new doors General contracting management: - oversaw other subcontractors (plumbing, electrical, carpet, etc) - managed permit process with the city I'm probably missing items. Dean and his crew took a completely unfinished basement and turned it into a functioning, beautiful family entertainment room.
