The crew arrived when scheduled, completed the job on time as forecasted and was extremely professional. The end product is absolutely beautiful, hand crafted with high grade materials. Booking did take a while as all contractors are super busy this summer. But I am glad that I waited because the result is so good and they were a wonderful group to work with.

James came for an estimate, we talked about what I wanted done, and I really liked him. Their bid was a couple thousand dollars lower than others I received, so I tried to hire them. I was told that they were scheduling projects six- to eight-weeks out, but that was ok. There was nothing to sign, no down payment, and they said I was on the list and that they would contact me when they had time in the schedule. It has been about three months, and although I've tried to contact them multiple times via email (their preferred method of contact), they have not responded.

James came out and gave us an estimate last fall. He was very punctual. We were so excited to hire him but needed to wait for a variety of reasons. They gave us an estimate right away. We are just now able to get the work done, (summertime is busy time for contractors) and we've tried to contact them to see if we can get on their schedule. I haven't heard a peep. I do believe it is because they are very busy, and I also believe they have a small operation which makes it hard to contact customers. I've had the same experience as a couple of other reviewers, but I don't want to give these folks an overall rating of D by any means. I believe they do great work and if you are luck enough to hire these guys, then do it.

We are very happy with our back yard fence from West Seattle Fence. They built us a fence that is high in quality and craftsmanship. Patty and James were a pleasure to deal with as well. If we could do it over, we'd have them do our front yard fence too. Call them, you won't be disappointed.

We recently hired West Seattle Fence to replace the fence that surrounds our property. I had my heart set on a horizontal fence. We live on a hill, and the fence would need to travel along the slope, and be dog-safe. We got bids from four different fencing companies, and all grumbled about the extra work and money it would take to give me the fence I wanted. All, that is, except for West Seattle Fence. Not only did they not complain, they came in well under everyone else's bid. They are a small business - it's really just the owners and a couple of people on their crew. As a result, it can take a while to get on their schedule. We initiated contact in June, and weren't able to get a spot until October. That isn't entirely their fault - there were a couple of delays on our end as well. And they operate in a fairly small radius around West Seattle (luckily, we live in Beacon Hill). If you're in Edmonds, or Kent, or Bellevue, this may not be the company for you. We did have a couple of hiccups in getting together with James to review the job and finalize the design, however, the wait was well worth it. We have a truly gorgeous new fence. The job took three days - one day for demo and post-setting, one day for the fence, and one day for the trellises. They even came and finished the job on a Saturday. James is a stickler about his materials, and the quality truly is exceptional. I can't stop staring at my beautiful new fence! The workmanship is second to none - everything lines up perfectly. James and his wife, Patty are wonderful. They truly care about their clients' satisfaction with their work. They made a special visit on the weekend when the work was done to make sure it was up to their standards. I can't recommend them enough.

I contacted the company to bid on the project. Got a quick response, seemed like the owner would do a really good job, and the bid was reasonable. I contacted them again to say I wanted them to do the job, and asked them to please schedule it. Got no response. I tried three or four more times to get them to schedule the work. Most of my attempts (phone and email) weren't even acknowledged -- the one email that did get a response just said they'd get back to me, which they never did. I got tired of chasing after them and went with another company. Very disappointing.

James and Patty and the whole crew at West Seattle Fence are the best! From start to finish they were awesome. James came to do the estimate and I told him I was having my daughters baby shower in the back yard so either we had to do it before or after that date. He said they were pretty swamped so probably after. Then Patty emails me that they had a job postponed, and before I know it I had a new fence!! And it's beautiful! They went beyond what I would expect and even took out some old metal poles I had in my yard. I wish they did everything because I would hire them for everything!

I am completely satisfied and highly recommend this company and James' excellent craftsmanship and attention to details. He is a true artisan and a pleasure to work with. His crew, which helped set the posts, were all very friendly and professional. This job was especially challenging due to all of the custom work. James was very creative in working with me through all of the corners and angles of the job to come up with a design that is perfect for everything that I wanted. This included a plan to free up more usable space by hiding some waste bins on the side of the house. He suggested using a special drill to anchor a portion of the fence to an existing brick and stone wall. All the other posts are neatly anchored with steel set in concrete. James also took a photo I showed him on my laptop and working from memory built a sample panel for me to preview that turned out to be exactly what I had in mind. The finished sight lines all line up and all the boards are perfectly aligned between the panel sections. Many neighbors, the mail carrier, several strangers, and the neighbor dog and cats have all stopped to admire his work. I could not be happier with the results.

You couldn't ask for a better bunch to work with than James and his crew. Always polite, asked lots of questions as the work progressed to be sure they did things as we wanted. They cleaned up the area at the end of each work day. James had several ideas that we wouldn't have thought of ourselves to improve the layout and function of the new fence over what we had before. I am so glad we used them instead of one of the giant fencing companies in the Seattle area.

We started our fence project in 2011. James quoted the parts of the fence that were falling down and we used our tax returns to replace those parts. The next year we called him again to finish the back yard off using our tax returns. The fence looks great and we get compliments on it all the time. The only problem we've had is that the rivets have broken on all three gates, even the one that we rarely use. We have replaced them with screws and locking nuts and have not had a problem since. We will be calling James to finish fencing in our front yard in the near future.
Description of Work: Our old fence was falling down and we needed more privacy for us when sitting in our hot tub. James came out to take measurements and broke the quote up into segments. We decided to go with a partial fence the first year (2011). He removed the existing chain link in the back yard, installed fence along the back and part of the side yard as well as two wood gates. We asked him to install a temporary chain link gate. He reused material when he could.

Hi [member name removed]! Thank you for the review.. I wish you would have called up about your gate hardware. We would of came over right away. We have had issues with those gate latches. We are working on finding a much better quality latch. We have used this same company for the latches for the past 10 years... they are going down hill.. I apologize!!! Patty

James and his crew were fantastic. The craftsmanship was excellent, as James was welding a custom gate for us on site. The fence is great, he was very responsive to our needs and the fact that we had a napping toddler on site as well. I couldn't be more pleased with the work. The price was totally reasonable as well, considering the final product and the concern they showed for our needs. They also did a great clean up job too, which isn't always the case with contractors!

We were extremely pleased with West Seattle Fence. James, the owner, is both personable and professional. He spent a lot of time talking with us before writing his estimate, and met again with us before commencing work to make sure he understood what we wanted. He and his crew were punctual, pleasant to have around, and most importantly, they did excellent work. The quality of their workmanship is something that I haven't often seen. We could not be more happy with how our fence looks. James went out of his way to solve a few small problems for us that were unrelated to the fence, simply because he had the tools or materials in his shop. He recycled the old metal fence and donated the leftover scrap wood, and we appreciated these small but important environmental efforts by his company. I would highly recommend West Seattle Fence.

I apologize that we could not come out to give you a bid for your fence job. We are a very small company (1 crew) with James and 1 helper. We do not have the man power to go out to your area. I do hope you understand. We are not a large company like All City Fence or Alpine Fence. They have more crews to send out on jobs. This is why we tend to focus on West Seattle. Again, I apologize.

I emailed 4 local companies and James met me at the house the same day. He showed me photos of previous work, listened to my needs. He began the dog portion right away, and finished quickly. He explained he's a one-man show so we understood that when he was on other jobs we'd need to keep calling his cell phone, which was fine with us. Our fence looks zen like, just as we wanted. He used clear (no knots) cedar, weed whacked, pruned, removed chain link, etc. He offered to transport addt'l materials for us (free) as we just moved in and have no large truck. Removed old laundry line pipe from yard (protect dogs' feet) and is just all around professional, pleasant, honest, and hard-working ('tail 8 at night or later if we didn't mind). He cleaned up materials each night. Pricing was high, but fair (as in: "just" or "square deal") once you know quality material cost, add in ongoing consult, art, not slapped together "home depotish" sections. You truly get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Designed and built a fence, made a dog-tight area, rolling driveway gate, 2 garden gates. Can't rave enough about how great James and his work and artistry are.

This company was referred to me by my landscape designer, who worked together with James on several projects. James was fast in giving me a quote for a 75' modified lattice style fence [$3,500.64 incl. tax; material: #1 clear cedar] on 09-13-2005. He was booked for 2-3 weeks in advance. So we agreed to do the work beginning of Oct. 05. I tried hard to reach him from Oct. 2nd-19th, left several messages on his answering machine. Calling his private number, I finally got a hold of him once. He promised me to come over the next day, finalizing things as he would be in the area anyway looking at a possible fencing project for a townhouse complex. He never showed up! He did the townhouse project, I guess he figured if he gets his foot into big constructions there is no need to care about the little people whom he promised to do the job. After he didn't show up, I called City Wide Fence [4257458645]; they did the whole job within 2 weeks for $1,000 cheaper!
Description of Work: The project included making a suggestion for a newly designed fence, and removing the old existing wire fence [incl. steel poles]and replacing it by a new cedar fence [incl. drilling new holes, setting poles & fence]
