The service went well. The owner came out for the job. He ended up working on a few other doors while he was out. They were very responsive and came out the same day I called. He did excellent work and was very professional. I was very impressed by their work and the pricing was reasonable.
Description of Work: I hired the company to repair a door frame and threshold.

If you have household door problems, inside or out, you have to call Washington Doors. After purchasing a large used home, we had many doors that would stick shut, had latches that hit the frame, deadbolts that didn't fit the whole, and two doors that couldn't be opened at all. I called multiple professional handyman services, local contractors and others after searching "door repair" and "handyman" in Angie's List. All gave the nearly same answer. They would try to fit this in, but it may take a few weeks. Small jobs like this are billed T&M (time and materials) with a cost for the initial hour, then an lower hourly rate. They guessed my list of door issues would take 4-10 hours but none would commit to an estimate, giving cost projections ranging from $600-$1250. :-( Then I called Matt at Washington Doors. They are a small, local, family owned company and all they do is doors. After hearing my list, he was very confident he could fix all my issues in <2 hours. He was available within a few days. He arrived and was kind, professional and very quick. He reshaped doors, adjusted hinges, reset plates and deadbolts, opened and fixed doors not used in years, installed a new handle & latch, and did it all in 90 minutes at a cost of ~$275 (tax and materials included)! After giving him the check, I noticed one loose threshold I had forgotten. He quickly fixed it for free. I am so glad I found Washington Doors and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Fixed 8 doors (5 internal, 3 external) that had latch problems, would not open, or were stuck in the frame. Replaced weather stripping on exterior door. Installed a new handle/latch.

I worked with Matt who arrived on time and was very professional. He knew his stuff and quickly identified the problem and got to work. It was very refreshing having someone that knew exactly what they were doing and cared about doing a good job. After aligning the door, he also made sure there were no air leaks and adjusted the seals on the door to be sure. Excellent work and very affordable. Will definitely use them again if I need to.
Description of Work: I had 2 outer doors and 1 storm door that needed adjusting. The doors were rubbing against the frame and the bolts weren't latching. This was probably caused by a small earthquake.

Very thorough, worked fast - because he knew what was wrong and how to fix it, and was very professional.
Description of Work: Matt corrected an exterior door that was manufactured incorrectly and therefore installed badly with lots of gaps where cold and hot weather came through. He corrected another door that swung open too quickly (banging against the wall) and removed a shipping tack from the bottom of another door that was causing the door to catch on the floor. He also provided advice on how to purchase and install a pocket door lock.

My home had been broken into by kicking in the front door. Needless, to say I was frantic to have it repaired as it is the only locking door from the outside. I contacted Washington Door Service at 2:00 and Lloyd was out by the next morning. He was extremely professional and provided excellent service. At first he thought he could try to salvage the frame, saving me the costs, but on review the complete door and frame required replacing I will definitely refer him to others.

I contacted this contractor via Angies messaging about a major threshold issue that needed to be investigated and asked if they did this type of work. Llyod requested I email him instead. I did email him and explained in detail the issue, and he advised he could install a door. We tentatively set an appointment for 7/25 - but I said before we proceeded, I wanted to confirm he actually did this type of threshold repair work because we might have a bigger issue of damage around the door. I sent him an email to again clarify if they did this type of work, what the issues were with the door, and maybe I could send a picture to see if he did this type of work. Then he wrote back and asked me to send him several detailed pictures, and while I was at it, to send him detailed measurements and proceeded to explain to me how I should measure the frame, jambs, etc. etc. and and once he got that, he would be happy to bid our door. Not sure how I got delegated to do all the work measuring for this bid, so I did not proceed. First, he didn't answer my question on two separate occasions, if he could handle the major threshold damage issue - all he referenced is he could install a door. Great - but I don't want to install a door until we discover what is occurring in the wood area in the threshold. We most likely need a repair, and I never got a clear answer yes or no if they did that work. Second, I am not a contractor and I think it would have been more professional for him to actually come out at the proposed or another date and to see what the actual situation was and talk to us one-on-one about possible options and THEN bid. Had he come out and investigated more thoroughly, we might have provided him additional opportunities for work. Tonight he called me and asked the status of our 7/25 appointment? I told him since he didn't answer my question about the damage, we had decided to go elsewhere. He never apologized to me this evening, referenced perhaps any misunderstanding in the emails, or tried to work to remedy the situation. He just said okay and that was the end of the call. Not a good experience. I felt like he was trying to get the work without doing the proper research ahead of time, and he really didn't seem to care about the concerns we had specific to this threshold issue we had, before proceeding to install a new door.

Hi [removed member name], I am sorry you didn't get the attention you deserved when we first communicated I mentioned that we were extremely busy and couldn't get to you right away and said that if you could provide me with some details (pictures and rough measurements) we could get a rough bid started for you, we also set an appointment as soon as we could to verify the problem and critical measure. I really wish we could have helped you , I know it can be frustrating having to wait but unfortunately this is something that occurs during busy times for all our customers.

WOW- super impressed. I left a voicemail late Sunday night and got a response by 9 AM on Monday morning. They even were able to come out by 11:30 AM to make the repair. Kurtis was polite on the phone and right on time. He was able to fix my door within 45 minutes and was also able to make a quick fix on another door for me . He was nice, professional, knowledgeable and quick. Would absolutely use Washington Door service again based on this experience. Thank you!!!

I can't say enough about how great it was to work with this company! I had purchased a door online through another provider but needed to find someone to install it. Washington Door Service quoted me a price that was inline with other companies. I picked them because they could fit me in their schedule and were pleasant and professional on the phone. The installer (Matt) couldn't have been more friendly, courteous and kind. He did a great job installing the door (took just under 4 hours) and cleaned up the exterior and interior completely after the job. So nice for something to go smoothly when dealing with home renovations; just great service from start to finish!!!

I tried to find someone with Yellow Pages, but only found commercial/industrial places. I found Washington Door on Angie's List. He was able to take all of my concerns and offer suggestions. He was very knowledgable about locks and doors, and made us feel very secure about the situation. He replaced all of our locks and installed all of the new door and components.
Description of Work: My house was broken into and they had completely destroyed the door frame and door in the process. We couldn’t find anyone to replace the door, but we couldn’t even shut what was left of the door. Washington Door was able to help us repair the damage and fix the situation.

Lee was the best! Prompt response when I called for quote and work was done with impeccable attention to detail. We have a century old house with an arch top door and we were looking for a more secure, sturdier door along with a screen door. Lee recognized that the current door was still in good shape and did an amazing job reconstructing the door jamb and threshold. New weatherstripping added and it seems like a new door! Also, the new custom screen door looks beautiful and adds the look of an original, more age appropriate look to our exterior. All of this with a great price and I cannot praise his work enough. Very happy customer!

I talked to Lloyd Evans on the phone and set an appt for Lee to come on Monday and give us an estimate. Lee arrived on time, took measurements, and discussed the most economic approach to replacing the closet doors. When I asked how soon they could do the work because we needed to get the condo ready to rent, he was able to schedule it after two days. So on Wednesday Matt arrived on time and got right to work. After installing the closet doors, he examed the other doors in the condo and made adjustments to them. He also observed that the deadbolt was missing the plate on the door jam. I was so thankful that he could fix that immediatley. Matt was very thorough and knew what he was doing. It was a pleasure to work with Lloyd, Lee and Matt. We will certainly use them in the future for any door issues. I highly recommend them.

Lloyd Evans came to assess my need. He was very personable and gave suggestions. He assessed that he wouldn't need to replace the door frame, which made it less costly for me. He and his helper took out the old door and did the installation very efficiently. It looks great and should save on energy costs.
Description of Work: He removed and disposed of the old door which was installed when the house was built in 1956. He removed the interlock weather stripping, installed a new solid core mahogany exterior door, which was prefinished to match other interior doors. He installed new compression weather stripping, new antique brass lock set and new bottom door sweep.

Lloyd was kind and helpful on the phone. He arranged a visit several days later and arrived a bit early of his scheduled time. Lloyd was courteous and professional, listening to my concerns and interests. I was later able to communicate a few more details to him in email. In the end, the bid provided by Lloyd was simply more than I wanted to pay. I cannot say if it was a bad or good bid price, it was simply higher than my expectations. I served as the general contractor for my entire renovation and my estimates of what things should cost are usually pretty accurate. I suspect the difference was due to my lack of expertise on the labor involved in installing doors. Anyway, this seems like a great company and if cost were not an objection I would have been happy to work with them. Based on the other reviews, their repair work prices seem reasonable - I cannot see how you could go wrong hiring Washington Door Service. I'm going to try to install the doors myself, perhaps after understand everything involved I will call them again to bail me out.

Lee and Matt were fantastic to work with. They responded to my call quickly and because they were working in a nearby area, they stopped by the same day I called to take a look at my project. They assessed the work and made a recommendation. They showed me options for doors in various styles and price ranges, including matching the current hardware. On the day the door was installed, Matt was very detailed in matching the trim and the grout around the threshold, both outside and inside. It looks beautiful, lets in natural light, and there is no more draft around the door. I had them measure and provide an estimate for a second door that I need to replace and I'll be finalizing that work with Washington Door shortly. I highly recommend this company!

On the advice of Angie's List posts, I called to arrange an appointment. Lloyd came first thing the next morning and in less than two hours, he had everything fixed and done except one bolt replacement for which he needed the part. Within two hours, his son Matt was back here with the part and had it installed. Done and done. These guys are professional, personable, fast and very competent!

I opened the only door to my townhouse at 6:30 AM. I heard a loud cracking sound. A lower hinge had pulled away from the door frame. The door would still close but would not lock. I was stuck in my house until someone could repair it. I checked three options but this was an emergency and fortunately this was my day off. Lloyd Evans of Washington Door Service was fantastic. I called when his business opened (9AM) and in about an hour (my home is far from his business) he was at my door. In 15 minutes the door was repaired, realigned, and the lock was fully functional. In 5 more minutes he explained why the damage occurred, what he did to repair it, and gave good advice on caring for my door from the problems of wind and water. I was amazed at his excellent service and is in my permanent list of contractors that I will hire in the future.

Lloyd is the man. Quoted the work, then jumped in to do it. Easy to schedule via email. It took him longer than he anticipated, but he honored the quote like a pro. Lloyd disassembled our really awful front door and worked his magic. It now closes with the touch a finger and the locking mechanism (which feels like from 1938) works beautifully for the first time since we moved in. Lloyd worked his magic tuning my son's room door so it closes like butter. Finally, he shaved down a closet sliding door that was dragging on the carpet. I don't know how he does his magic, but I do know the doors work like new. Based on his work, I'm getting Lloyd to do more locks and doors around the house. You should too.

Mr. Metford came out to repair our doors. The problem was a draft that was coming from under the doors, not to mention a visible gap. They arrived promptly; they were very professional and courteous gentlemen. We were very impressed by the quality of the work that was done, and we were happy that they were able to do it in under four hours and stick to the quote. They also installed a various cornucopia of safety features which included a security chain, deadbolt, and a larger peep hole. They were conscientious of my cats and they kept the work area neat. In fact, they even cleaned the outside of the doors when they finished. More importantly, although I couldn't get them to wash my windows, the doors work well and the draft is gone. It was money well spent. I would recommend them to anybody who needs door repair or replacement.
