Roman always gets the job done. We first found him when we discovered a seriously leaking outdoor faucet. He responded quickly and fixed the problem, although he noted that the plumbing in the house supporting the faucet was kind of fragile. A couple of years later the faucet leaked again and the problem was inside. Our house was built in the late 20's and the plumbing in some parts is fragile to say the least. The fix required some very creative solutions which he accomplished with minimum disruption to our wallboard and interior. Six months later the faucet was leaking again! It was due this time to a manufacturing defect. Roman spent several hours on the job, having to get a specialized new faucet. NO CHARGE! Roman will definitely continue to be our go-to guy for plumbing.
Description of Work: We've used Roman for a variety of household jobs, some involving somewhat complicated solutions.

I was desparately looking for a plumber, called multiple places but couldn't find someone who could do it in a week, Wallingford Plumbing was recommended by another plumber, I talked to a guy with an European accent, told him what I needed & someone tried installing a shower valve & a drain prior to the arrival of the supples & didn't workout because the measurement was not accurate, the following day I finally got the stuff & decided to hire a real plumber to do the job properly, he told me it will take a few days, I said it's not complicated so will take him a few hours, then he asked me if I had the money to have the job done, he said "I am a very good plumber and I do a good job, you better ask someone else, I know what I am doing, and I expect to be paid the right amount." Very rude! Does he have anything against woman? I manage a few houses on my own. Money is not an issue.

Roman was very professional and personable. He even removed his shoes at our request (we have a baby), which I understand is not a comfortable ask for most plumbing professionals. He came on the same day I called, quoted the services exactly and did a fast and thorough job. We will definitely call upon him for future plumbing needs.

Roman is a nice man and he responds promptly. However, he handed us a final bill that was more than double his estimate with no warning to us whatsoever. The difference might have been understandable if he'd encountered something unexpected, but he knew the conditions, having done $2,000 of work in exactly the same location three years earlier. Nothing had changed on the jobsite from the last time he was there and he told us that nothing unusual had come up while he was working this time. His estimate could and should have been pretty accurate. I'm aware that lots of contractors give lowball estimates because they want the job, but each time it happens the customer has to decide whether that contractor is inexperienced or ethically challenged. Either way, the result is the same, a shockingly high bill from a contractor you no longer feel you can trust.

I didn't like the fact that he bought a shower head that I didn't think was satisfactory and I had to tell him that it wasn't acceptable. It should have been obvious from the specific functions we had describedo . He went out and got another ( very good but EXPENSIVE ) shower head and I should of asked to see the receipt but forget to. Even so seems like something any worker would automatially do especially when the item is expensive and I think a person should show you what the materials used cost. He was okay, not great and not bad. Make sure you request receipts. I don't know anything about plumbing and I wasn't sure if everything he said needed to be done, actually did need to be done. There was just an issue of whether I could totally trust him or not .
Description of Work: We used Wallingford Plumbing last year. We had a crack in the shower head that had to be replaced. We also had a leaky toilet and he had to replace something in the tank.

I'd had a licensed plumbing company last year give a bid for the same drain unplugging and the same new Koehler toilet in another location in the house, and their bid was for $475, including toilet at contractor cost, 1 year warranty, etc. When Roman said it would be around $600, I told him I'd go pick up a Koehler toilet myself at $218 and save $160 (same quality toilet, according to other plumbers). He insisted his was better, didn't even give me a chance to pick one up myself because he said he couldn't guarantee it, charged me list price tho he paid contractor's price at Keller Supply (which gave him a dandy profit), said he had to charge higher price because he insures his work for a year or 2. After all materials, etc the total came to $805. When I gasped that I was not expecting to pay so much, he said, "Well, with such a nice toilet, you can raise your tenant's rent to make up for it. You can charge more rent for such a nice toilet."!! I don't raise rent on good tenants, so that was an insult--raise their rent in order to put more money into his pocket! I'd told him I was a member of Angie's list and laid off from my job, and this is the reduced price he charged for a simple, less than an hour unplug of a drain, and a return call to install his fine, top-of-the-line white toilet! I should have called someone else, but everyone else was 2 days out before they could come. I should have looked harder. I can't recommend him. He was not straight-forward with his cost estimate, but he got the job done in 2 days, if that's worth it.
Description of Work: Sorry, I did not have the good experiences that the other reviewers had. He spent less than an hour unstopping a toilet that wouldn't flush on the first day, then installed a sparkly new white Koehler toilet the 2nd day.

I'm thrilled with all the work he did and I think the cost was very reasonable. I will hire him again. He did get the C and H backwards and silicone them on, though, which is not that big a deal.
Description of Work: I hired Roman to repipe all my visible water lines, which line the basement ceiling. He explained the challenge of disconnecting the old pipes which might crumble and force wall demolition, and said he'd do his best. (Nothing crumbled as it turned out.) Roman saw that my toilet tank had a crack and convinced me to buy the same toilet that he has at home.

I called Roman based on positive reviews here on Angie's list. When he was available to come do the job on the same day I called him, I was sold. He was about 1/2 hour late arriving - no big deal to me, but the reason I docked him on punctuality - simply by definition. He was personable and professional. I had the site demo'd, water off, and pipes disconnected when Roman arrived. It seemed a straight forward job to install the new valve, mount it to the wall, reconnect the water supplies and a new copper pipe to the shower outlet and test the results. Roman estimated a 1.5 to 2 hr. job - which I agreed seemed reasonable. I have to say, I felt like things were moving more slowly than expected, a personal phone call here or there, with no significant difficulty or new discoveries in the job. In the end it took 3.5 hours and a nearly $500 to complete. I am fairly handy myself and hire a plumber primarily to save me several trips to the store to get all the pieces I need... I expect that if I had a plumbers supply of connectors and gadgets, I would have finished this job in about the same time. The quality of the work is good, of course. Again, when I look at the other reviews, the scope of work done, and the price charged, I think I paid too much - and feel a little taken. Oh well. His timeliness has allowed me to continue making progress on the rest of my project, so I am still satisfied.

Roman suggested that time ($118 per hour) and materials would be best for this job, as it was unclear how extensive the job would be until he started removing some of the old pipes and fittings. Ultimately I got more work done for less money than if I had accepted the other quote. Roman usually works by himself (maybe uses an assistant on bigger jobs). He works efficiently and gets more done in an hour than many larger companies who send out a less experienced employee. Overall the work was done well.
Description of Work: We had several old pipes and fittings that needed replacing, one leaky pipe and a few leaky fixtures. He also replaced faucet in the laundry sink and switched valve in basement shower that previous installer had reversed hot & cold lines.

I contacted several plumbing companies before deciding to hire Roman Szarowski at Wallingford Plumbing. I appreciated Roman's prompt responses to my queries; his competency, affability and candor on the job; and his reasonable pricing. As you can see above, I had accumulated several projects before finally hiring a plumber. When I needed a new washing machine, and none of the current models would fit my laundry closet because our supply valves stuck out too far, I knew it was time to hire someone. I thought the valves would have to be moved, an expensive-sounding prospect, but Roman explained that he could shorten them so the new washer would fit (less expensive and no tearing into the wall necessary).
Description of Work: Wallingford Plumbing shortened and replaced my washing machine supply valves, replaced a bathroom sink supply line. He also assessed a leaky toilet, and told me it would be more cost efficient to replace it with a new water-conserving model than to rebuild the deficient one. I put that project off for a future date.

Roman was able to come over the same day. He explained the problem and offered the best and most reasonable solution. He estimated the time it would take with accuracy. Fantastic professionalism but left one small smudge of pipe sealing that stained our cheap tile floor. I was not too worried about that because we will eventually replace them. We got a quote for the same job by Beacon Plumbing who wanted to charge us twice as much.

Roman first removed the damaged drain--it took a lot of effort and then installed a new connection, plumbed the sink and installed the sink on the vanity.
Description of Work: Roman installed a vanity and sink by first removing and repairing a damaged drain connection thereby saving us having to rip open the wall. The connections were clean and the work was nicely done. Roman even returned later that evening to return an old screw driver he picked up by mistake. In addition to his obvious skill, he turned out to be a pleasant personality who quickly comprehended the time pressure we were under and performed accordingly. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

Roman diagnosed the problem quickly and repaired it quickly.
Description of Work: Roman answered his phone on Sunday when I was trying to find a plumber to stop water leaking onto my bathroom floor. He was very kind and agreed to come over to look at the problem and only charged me a standard house call charge. He figured out what was causing the problem in just a few minutes. He removed a broken part and said he'd be back when he'd gotten a replacement from the company that sold it to us. He kept me updated by phone on his progress in securing the replacement part, and as soon as it arrived, returned to install it about 10 days after his first visit (the delay was caused by shipping the part from the East Coast).

I contacted Wallingford Plumbing through Angies List along with two other highly rated plumbers. Wallingford responded very quickly and were the second to provide an estimate. They looked at every aspect of the waterline. He seemed nervous about the project and quoted me a price that was three times higher than the other two vendors. His price was a least partially higher due to the fact that he wanted to approach the work trenchless although since I was landscaping, the landscapers would be able to build the trench. He said it would take three days The differences in price, approach, and attitude (he seemed nervous or wanted to make it seem like a big job). I hired another plumber to do the work which they completed in about 6 hours.

Response from Wallingford Plumbing LLC
Angie's list report brought to my attention that Member wrote this report. Upon reding it I've tried unsuccessfully to contact her and inform her that her report is inaccurate and subjective. My preliminary bid was $5800.00 This bid was was opened to futher descussion and/or negotiation. She stated that I've said that the job will take 3 days and that the plumber she hired did it in 6 hours. How this plumber could call the city and arrange someone to come out and mark potential hazards (gas line, electric cabets etc) prior digging and when the job complite have the city inspect it befor back fill. All this accomplished in 6 hours!!!!! If speed and price takes precedence over caution ( she interperts it as nervousness) than it's just a matter of time before a very serious accident happens. Since it was only preliminary bid and opened to negotiation at anytime and finaly not awarded to me I don't undestand why she would take the time and effort to write this report. That's anyone guess!?

I called Roman and he came out the same day, efficiently spliced in new pipe, tested, found another split I hadn't noticed, repaired that, insulated the whole thing, and showed me where to unscrew a coupling if it gets that cold again. He was smart, knew his work, and had his brain engaged--ie thinking about how the system should be set up to prevent future problems, educating me as he worked. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Roman is an honest, skilled plumber. He responded to a rental house, identified the problem, and communicated well. His rates were fair and are in line with the market; however I cannot afford standard market rates. Therefore I would only use him (or any other regular rate plumber) in an emergency, and plan to tackle future rental house plumbing myself. Good plumber though!

Roman showed up on time. Saw the problem and fixed it in less time than I thought he would.
Description of Work: I hired the company to help me hook up my dryer. I had unhooked the dryer in order to paint behind it. I couldn't insert the exhaust into the outlet in the wall. Roman came out on the same day's notice, ran to get an additional part (a piece of metal that could be curved and used as an internal hose), and fixed my dryer exhaust. Now, my dryer can be easily pulled away from the wall when my condo association hires a chimney specialist to inspect and clean our chimneys and dryer vents every other year. Another thing he did at no additional charge was to apply bath and tile caulk to the bottom of two toilets another plumber had installed but neglected to caulk at the bottom. He also educated me about why you leave a small space at the back of the toilet so you can tell if you have a leak instead of having the water seep into the sub-flooring. A friend of mine was over and asked me who did the caulking. She remarked that the bead was so perfect you couldn't tell it was there. I gave her his card.
