My janitor installed a door closer upside down and it never worked right. Vortex had dropped off a business card so I called and asked if they could fix my doors. I was told ?we can get someone right out today?. They did. It took 2 ½ hours to complete the work. Both doors do work correctly now. The problem is when I got the invoice there was no description of the work done or parts used. Just a bill telling me I owe $750.00. I called and asked for a more detailed invoice and within a week received a second invoice with just a small bit of information more, still no detail. Again I called and asked for a detailed invoice. A week later there it was. I was charged 1 hour @ $169 per hour for travel time to and from shop, in Seattle traffic. I was charged $14.00 for screws, $30 for lube on the doors and a whapping $225.00 for a door closer. There was also the $169.00 dollar service call and the $169.00 per hour door technician. I wasn?t aware that doors were that technical. Printed on the invoice was the words ?emergence service?. It wasn?t and emergency, the doors had been broken for almost two years. I was told that when they do same day service that is standard policy regardless of emergency or not. From that point it went downhill. I refused to pay that exorbitant amount for a rather simple fix. I was than subjected to their ?collections department? which seemed all to familiar with dealing with ?deadbeats? like myself. The regional rep was to stop in and discuss the problem. He never showed but did however take $200 off the bill. I agreed just to get it done with. The next week I get a notice that I was being taken to small claims court for the full amount. As you could imagine I was pretty happy to see that notice. I eventually paid the lesser amount and am done with them. Do your research on the net and you will find that the same treatment and business tactics are used in other cities by Vortex. It seems to an excepted business practice. I would never call their number again in my life.
