VISTA GARDENS

Called Vista Gardens and they came out promptly to give an estimate, which was reasonable given the amount of work required. We scheduled a date but they warned me that it would be weather dependent. Fortunately we had great weather the day they came out. The job was pretty large and it took 3 people all day to rip all the weeds and shrubbery out but in the end it looked fantastic. They checked with me on a couple of areas to make sure the work was to my satisfaction as they were going through. They even raked the dirt in my raised garden bed after weeding it. They were also careful not to rip out any of the legitimate plants I had in there. Overall I was very pleased with the service.

The team of 2 arrives with their own equipment and quickly, but thoroughly mow and edge the front and back lawn. They don't step in the flower beds and always leave the place looking much better than they found it. They also cleaned off the front deck and driveway. They pay attention to the small details, which is much appreciated.

As described above, the work was done very effectively and efficiently and my back and front yards look wonderful.

Rodrigo was the only professional of all the A list angies list lawn and yard work companies that I interacted with. He came over, gave a competitive estimate. Had a time for his crew to come. He called me the day before. His crew was efficient and professional, and did a very nice job. He will be my regular lawn service.

The story begins well -- but ends very disappointingly. We commissioned an estimate from Rodrigo. He seemed very knowledgeable and I was very much looking forward to working with him. He offered to provide the estimate by the next day and I said that I appreciated that because I was collecting competitive quotations and I wanted to make a decision quickly -- even though I did not need to have the work done until it was convenient. The day of the quotation came and went with no contact. The next day I telephoned Rodrigo. He offered no apologies, said he would have the quotation to me in a day, and then while still on the phone, decided that actually he didn't have time to put a quotation together as they were just too busy. So despite taking up 1.5 hours of our time doing the initial measurements, he did not have the professionalism to at least give js a quotation. I suppose it was a lucky escape as if he could bail on us at this stage of the process, what's to say it couldn't happen later on when the job was already begun. What a pity! Unfortunately, I will not be calling his company in the future.

They were great. Came out gave estimate, hired them, work completed and it was great. However I called them again to do a job at a different location, and to do some paver work and I never heard back.

within 24 hour call back from Rodrigo. He came out the next day to give us a bid broken out by materials and labor. We accepted and he scheduled to come out the very next week. He showed up early with three other guys and got to work. They intended to work a day and a half, but instead worked a really long day because the weather was supposed to turn. We don't have a huge yard, but we have little grass so there was a lot for them to do. Our back yard is sloped and half of it needed topsoil and mulch. In addition they weeded all the plant beds and mulched everything perfectly. They removed a really large lilac that was overgrown and also removed a bamboo patch. I'm really pleased with the work they did and the cost was appropriate for the size of the job. He mentioned that if we maintained the work and had them back every year that the cost would be less since there was just so much to do this time. We'll most likely have them back every year now. Clean up was perfect too.

Rodrigo is super responsive and professional. He always returns my calls promptly and follows through on his promises. He and his team do a great job on the yard. They get the job done fast and it's always done well. They're respectful and professional and are great at following instructions when I request special projects. I would definitely recommend them to others.

I had read a number of positive reports, so I called. I also read that some people got no call back. That was my experience and I as quite disappointed, so I could not recommend this company at all.

Our house sits high above the street and the guys devised a system to haul topsoil and the sod that was amazing and even worked on the weekend to get the job done. Our neighbors have hired Vista Gardens after seeing the great work they do. I cannot recommend this company enough.

The owner does a very excellent job. We like the price. He listens and he is quick. He cleans up after himself. He is a pleasure to use. My neighbors have used him as well.

Vista Gardens created a very professional estimate and reviewed the job with me in person. They were on time for our appointment and returned the estimate timely. However, their price was 3 times more than the other two companies.

The goal of this project was to maximize backyard habitat and production value and minimize waste and resource consumption. We were wanting to see how little material we could import and export from the site while renovating a sunbaked old yard of concrete and beauty bark. Rodrigo embraced these ideas and our frugality, as well as the challenge of salvaging, moving, and installing old, on-site plants and materials. This yard is only accessible via a narrow slot between houses, so no Bobcat or other large equipment could be used. The large area of old poured-in-place concrete was broken up by hand, and all grading (to correct a drainage problem around the foundation) was done by hand. The most notable feature of Rodrigo's hard work was his team's careful and creative use of the salvaged concrete pieces from the old patio slab. The dry-stacked, low retaining wall and pathways that were made from this material are lovely -- neat and carefully leveled, but appealingly crafted and irregular. We even needed a few more pieces, and he found the material for free at a local yard. If you are interested in taking a "green" or salvage-friendly approach to your home landscape that may require more creativity and patience from a contractor than installing new catalog products does, then I would enthusiastically recommend Rodrigo to you! He is collaborative, professional, and open-minded. He is also extremely busy due to his popularity here on Angie's List and otherwise, so expect possibility of some staggering of work times and scheduling on your project as he juggles multiple jobs.

I did not use him on the project but was satisfied with working with him through out the bidding process.

The owner was straightforward with written estimates. When it became obvious that there was a huge amount of cement to be removed, which was not visible, he was straightforward as to the revised cost and asked if I wanted to go ahead with what he deemed the best solution.

Rodrigo is great! Very professional, accurate, detailed, patient, and takes the time to explain each plant and how it would be impacted from trimming. I have multiple properties and Rodrigo takes care of them and he has done such a reliable job I've used him on my own home!

The person who came to give the estimate was very nice. He was very helpful with his ideas. He seemed to be a fair person and he seemed capable.

Rodrigo was the first contractor I contacted for my front yard remodel because of his high rating, large number of current reports, and my wish to hire a company which seemed experienced in landscape installation. Rodrigo showed up promptly and we discussed my plan. He shared some thoughts and promised to send a proposal the next day. When I had not received one several days later I phoned him and he promised to get it to me. I never heard from him again and can only guess that he was not interested in the job. Obviously, I would have preferred to know right away if he didn't want the job. Perhaps he wanted to wait for other developments. But not to respond at all after telling me twice he would send a bid was unprofessional.

Rodrigo came to my site and we talked about the work - he asked all the right questions and made some good design suggestions. We agreed on a price and Rodrigo and his crew came and started work as planned. There were some minor changes as we went along and Rodrigo handled these professionally. His main concern seemed to be that he wanted to get the job done right and leave me happy - and that's what happened.

Rodrigo was very unresponsive. We called; we emailed; we called back two more times and finally after a week (during which the yard was still growing) we scheduled him to come for an estimate. He showed up 45 minutes early in the middle of our lunch. He said he'd get back to us with the estimate. We called two more times but never heard back, so then we went with another company. We wanted to like him - he seemed like a nice person. We were excited that he had so much positive feedback on Angie's list. But what do you do when someone doesn't call you back and wastes your time? We can only judge him on the lack of responsiveness, and we hope there was not a personal tragedy that precipitated it.
