Brad came by the day after I called, was prompt and informative. His business does not perform the type of work we needed to have done, so he recommended an alternate provider, who I heard from later that day. I was impressed by the responsiveness and willingness to work with me even though he probably knew from our initial phone call that he would be referring the business elsewhere.
Description of Work: I contact Vintage Storm Windows to look at some old windows we needed to have worked on.

This has been a while since it was done, so the date and amount is very approximate. Vern and his wife Kathy did a great job buiding custom fit wood frame storm windows for my 1940s Ballard bungalow that fit perfectly and are designed so that they can be tilted open for getting air through the single hung windows in the summer. They also can be taken down for washing, although the larger ones are quite heavy. I think they have really improved the insulation quality of the windows as well as provided a deterrent to potential burglars who might try to enter through prying open the old vertically hung windows. They were great to work with. They had a backlog of custom orders so it i necessary to allow a lead time, as should be expected with a small family run business. I strongly support using such locally owned small businesses. Since then Vern and Kathy's son has taken over the business that he was raised with and I'm sure is doing a great job also.
Description of Work: Custom built exterior wood storm windows for all of the windows in my house, priming and painting them to custom color and installing them. The design allows for their being tilted out from the house through a mechanism that otherwise provides a secure lock to the window to prevent tapering. The design also allows for the windows to be removed for cleaning. I leave my up all year, only using the prop open mechanism in the summer with my single-hung windows to open them for more air. Really a great system.

Brad was very responsive to our phone calls. He was prompt and delivered exactly what he promised, when he promised. The first thing is that these windows are absolutely gorgeous. They are of the highest quality and completely fit in with the style of the home. They look like they are original on a Craftsman house. The other great thing about them is the system they have for staying on year-round, but allowing for opening of the casement windows. Our casements open sideways, which would preclude being able to keep a storm window attached and yet still open it, but they have attachments which connect the window and storm, and the storm opens in tandem with the window. It totally works, and works smoothly. I can't comment yet on insulating value, since we haven't had a winter yet (though they seem to work well with the cool summer), but I imagine they will work. If you are looking for beautiful wood storm windows that match a Craftsman (or any other style) home, these are the people you have to call. The price is acceptable for the quality, and they are top-notch.
Description of Work: We had 15 wood storms windows of various shapes made to cover the original windows in a 1914 Craftsman home. Brad just bought the business from his father, Vern, who ran it for many years. While Vern was involved in some of our project, Brad did most of the work, including the building of the windows. They measured the current windows (no easy task due to the many irregularities and uneven shapes), added a small frame on two of them for the storms to attach, planed the current frames so the windows would open and close easily, built the storm windows and delivered them to us. We then stained and painted them (we decided to save money and do this ourselves, though we're not sure they do it, and you may need to subcontract this), and then they attached them.
