It was an agreed "fix" as we are selling our home and it came up on the inspection list. From beginning to end, the folks at Tank Wise have been; kind, friendly, punctual, professional. I did not have to do anything except call them and pay them. They made this a very easy fix and it was done in a very timely manner. I was quite impressed with the service I received and would recommend them to everyone.

They actually called me to let me know that there was no record of removal of the oil tank with the local fire department and would need to be removed. I had called them and they told me that I should look into the records to find out, but I didn't get around to it right away so when they called me to tell me that there wasn't a record, I was happy they had taken the initiative. They were quick to get over and do the job after that. They also provided me with the permit after the fact.

Description of Work: I can't thank Tom and Wendi enough for all of their help. I needed to remove a decommissioned tank before a new deck could be built. As it turned out there were complications in coordinating this work with the deck builder and more importantly the tank was much larger than reported to us. To accommodate the deck construction Wendi rescheduled other work and Tom came out at 6:30PM to assess the exact location and dimensions of the tank and determined the best course of action. He worked until 7:30PM on a rainy evening, made revisions to the plan and will coordinate with another company to foam fill the tank . Their knowledge, professionalism and dedication to their customers is exemplary. Sandra M

We loved working with this company! They were easy to work with, knew a ton about oil tanks and were extremely personable. They've been doing this for years! We also collected a number of bids and Tank Wise was by far the least expensive. In the end we paid a little bit more to have the tank removed vs. decomissioned. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Removed underground oil tank from front yard. Using a backhoe, the Tank Wise Team places down boards, rolls into your yard, digs up and removes the tank. They also pump out remaining oil and detach all of the pipes leading to the old heating unit. They do this with minimal damage to the yard which is unbelievable until you see them in action. Using soil fill, they eliminate the hole and roll your grass right back on top. AND they haul away the tank and pipes so you don't have too.

Having Tom Wise and his guy deal with the issues surrounding fuel oil tanks at my new home is one of the best decisions I've made. Aside from getting any needed work done, quickly and inexpensively, he's been a godsend as far as explaining what's happening and why, and letting me know the options available to me as we went along.

Discovered an old oil tank under my deck when doing a landscape project that I didn't know was there. Tom promptly checked the city's records to see if it had been decommissioned already, and when he didn't find any documentation came to my property and inspected it. Luckily it had been drained and cleaned, but had not been filled per the current decommission requirements. He provided an estimate that seemed reasonable for the work, and re-cleaned and filled the tank within a few days. The whole process went really well, and I was thrilled he could complete the work so quickly so I could proceed with the landscape project. He took care of the permitting process and provided me with the proper documentation of my tank being decommissioned.il

Prompt communications from Tom Wise. Tom visited the location and provided a firm quote for the services. He provided the necessary Fire Department permit form for signature and handled all of the paperwork. Once the permit was approved he returned and removed the tank, backfilled the hole, compacted the dirt, and made a reasonable attempt to restore the existing landscaping. I was very satisfied with the work performed and the fact that Tom did not accept payment until the work was completed to my satisfaction.

Couldn't have gone better/smoother.
Description of Work: I was having my house demolished and asked the excavator operator if he could dig up the old oil tank. He told me no problem, but to call Tom Wise to have it inspected and disposed of. I called Tom and he showed up on site right away with the correct paperwork and everything. We loaded it up into the back of his truck and it was gone. Simple as that!Tom is a really nice guy and he knows what he's doing. I will recommend him to everyone I know.

Tom Wise is a slick worker. Once we received our permit from the Seattle Fire Department ($106) and the work was scheduled, Tom's crew arrived as promised. The first team quickly pumped out 60 gallons of fuel oil and left before Tom mounted his city yard-friendly excavator and quickly set to work. He was able to move the excavator in a very tight space and create the least amount of disturbance as possible. He also excavated a window well next to the foundation for a future daylight basement window installation. After the tank was placed in the back of his dump truck, we noticed a small hole. I'm VERY happy to have the tank completely removed! Very pleased with everything. Tom readily dispenses folksy wisdom without sounding like a know-it-all. Good company to work with.

From start to finish Tom and his assistant (also his wife I believe) were helpful and professional. When he came to give me the bid he was willing to spend some time with me talking over the various options for this particular situation. He is very professional and clearly knows his stuff. Removing oil tanks is what he does and he is an expert. He primarily removes very large tanks from such places as gas stations. The work he does doing this for homeowners is something he does in addition to the larger jobs. Tom was very attentive to my needs and the particulars of this small job. Very informative and very professional. He's just a nice guy too.
Description of Work: The work that was done was the removal of an old underground, abandoned oil tank. This tank was buried at the front of my house and had in the past been used to store heating oil for an oil furnace. Approximately 12 years ago, the oil furnace was replaced with a natural gas furnace and the oil tank was never used again. I had three bids to remove the tank. Tom Wise (Tank Wise) was the lowest bid as well as the most professional in that he highly recommended that I get a permit and made that process very easy for me. He explained the importance of a permit and also recommended that the tank be removed as opposed to having it decommissioned. Other companies either tried to convince me that decommissioning would be as good as removal and one company said that a permit was unnecessary. My concern was to do the best thing for the future sale of the house and after much research I knew I wanted the tank removed and also knew I wanted to go "by-the-book" and to get a permit. Tom came with his back-hoe and a dump truck on June 17, 2011. He first removed several small shrub stumps that were in the way of a new deck to be installed. He then dug up the tank with great skill using the back-hoe. This had to be done very close to the house and beside two 4' by 8" windows. His skill with that back-hoe is amazing! One small slip and that thing would have been through my window(s). Even though the side of the house was inches away from where he had to work he never even touched the house. When he was finished getting the tank out of the ground and loaded on the truck, he cleaned up after himself removing all vegetative debris and smoothing out the spot where the tank had been. It all looked better when he left than it had before he came.

All contact with Mr. Tom Wise was friendly and helpful. He offered to come by soon after my first call to "get a lay of the land" concerning where our tank was located in our yard and what sized hole would need to be dug in order to remove it. He also estimated the amount of oil we had remaining in the tank so that we could decide if we were "safe" to quit our monthly service agreement with our oil provider. The excavating team of 2 gentlemen arrived on time and worked hard for almost 5 hours removing the tank. We happen to have a front yard that is gardener-friendly and I appreciated the care they took when removing not only the lawn, but the plants that were in the way. After they finished, our yard almost looks untouched! Note: Mr. Wise may be able to donate some of your remaining oil to local businesses - ask him for details.

Our tank was partly under our grass yard. They did an excellent job cleanly cutting the grass sod and replacing it after they were done. You can hardly tell that they did the work. Another thing we loved about Tank Wise is that they don't even offer filling the tank with foam. We had one company (that is highly recommend on Angie's list) say that they would only use foam to fill our tank because our yard was elevated above the street and only accessible by stairs making it too difficult to get sand to the tank. But it turns out (which the company failed to mention) that the foam never ends up completely filling the tank. They spray it down the access pipe and it hardens before it is able to fill the tank. In essence that defeats the purpose of making sure the tank will never cave in. There was another company that said it will only use sand because they believe it unethical to use foam for the above reason, even though it is much easier for the company to use. Tank Wise did a great job figuring out how to get the sand up to our yard. They ended up having to drive over some of our grass on our lower yard which they protected with plywood and you could not even tell they had been there afterward.
Description of Work: We had our heating oil tank decommissioned by Tank Wise. They located the tank, dug a hole above it, cut off the the top of the tank, cleaned it out, filled it with sand, and recovered it. They also drained and removed the oil lines that went into our basement. That was something that none of the other companies that gave us a bid mentioned and we greatly appreciate that they included that.
