Rich listens to what I want, prepares a detailed budget and estimate, shows up on time, cleans the work areas each day, keeps me in the loop on progress and surprises (a 95 yo home is full of surprises), and is an absolute pleasure to work with. No complaints whatsoever, and I plan to continue to use Tangent for any and all home projects in the future.
Description of Work: I've used Tangent Construction for several projects at my home: re-locating a bathroom window that was installed prior to the 'shower' era--the window was half inside the shower; rebuilding and supporting my back porch; replacing gable shingles; creating attic access inside the house; exterior door replacement; adequate attic ventilation. I've also seen remodeling work done by Tangent, and plan to use them to update my 20s-era kitchen in the near future.

 + 1 moreRich was always prompt, always clear in his ideas and explanations, kept the job site clean and created exactly what we were hoping for. Our young children thought he was great to have around because he always made a point of talking to them and was so polite and genuine. Rich definitely is on the high end of the cost spectrum, but you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: The porch on our 1918 (but remodeled in the 50s) house had an unattractive and rusted-apart wrought-iron handrail and columns. We hired Rich to replace the columns with wood columns and the handrail with a wood handrail. Rich described how he would do the work to give us a very solid, long-lasting and attractive handrail and discussed options for the columns that would make them match the overall look of the house. Rich created a concrete core (around rebar) for the lower post of the handrail, wrapped it in wood and then connected that handrail from the post to the column at the top of the steps. The columns and handrail were all painted to match the trim of the house and the overall look was terrific. Rich was careful to ensure the roof over the porch was properly supported during the time he was building up the new columns.

 + -1 moreIt went great because Rich treats your home as if it were his own! You don't have to clean up after him, and the work itself is clean and very well-done. I have had other people work on my house in the past, but have never had a positive experience like I had with Rich. Rich will take care of everything, and he is very detail oriented which is so helpful if you are not ;-)!
Description of Work: I called Rich to repair my hallway. There was damage to the floor, walls, woodwork, and ceiling of the tiny space due to a workman's misstep in the attic. That caused the ladder to fall and about half of the plaster ceiling along with it. The work took about a week, because there was much detail involved, and every day the space was left clean and ready for the next. The area was repaired, and it looks great.

 + -1 moreRich is pleasant, polite and cheerful. He is kind to my animals and treats my home as if it were his own. He shows up on time or early every day. When our work was delayed by bad weather Rich stayed on schedule by working late and on Saturdays. Rich is accountable. He reports problems as soon possible and always has a solution to fix the problem. Rich is incredibly considerate. At the end of the day he sweeps up all debris and neatly stores his equipment. He covered my shrubs with tarps so sawdust wouldn t harm my garden. He used a magnet to pick up stray nails in the yard so our dogs wouldn t get injured. During our kitchen/dining room remodel he left the place so clean and tidy that we felt comfortable throwing a dinner party halfway through construction. He designed and built a beautiful new gate for our entry area. Working with Rich is always a wonderful experience. He is a craftsman and does beautiful work.
Description of Work: Rich Tyas gives General Contractors a good name. Over the years Rich has remodeled our entire home, including the kitchen and two bathrooms. On this job he: Completely resided our house. Removed and rebuilt balcony railing. Added shingles and trim to house gable. Installed new garage door. Designed and built new front gate. Improved appearance of front porch by adding trim around front door, using bead board on porch ceiling, wrapping porch posts with trim. Added exterior lighting.
